a bunch of music people taking trash about themselves? unpossible

I thought for sure something U2 would be somewhere on the list. I don't have a specific quote in mind, it just seems like the kind of list they'd be on. Not surprised at #1 though.

does it count as cocky if its arguably true?

My example would be the Bon Jovi quote. i went to one, and he did have the female members of that audience effectively seduced, so far as i could tell by their reactions. I don't think his assertion that he is good at it is cocky.

"I'm gonna go down in history as being one of the best music men and businessmen in entertainment ... The people that I'm going to be greater than are Steven Spielberg, David Geffen and Clive Davis." - Diddy

Damn straight he is a legend.

I still feel sad after listening to a Queen album and realizing that I won't hear any new music from him.

Agreed. But that line coming from someone whose band is in even the Top 100 of all time, would be pretty damn good... IMO.

"I'm gonna go down in history as being one of the best music men and businessmen in entertainment ... The people that I'm going to be greater than are Steven Spielberg, David Geffen and Clive Davis."
~P Diddy

Greater than Clive Davis? Let's see, Mr. Davis signed Donovan, Janis Joplin with Big Brother & the Holding Company, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Aerosmith (to name a few). In 1979, Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead changed the lyrics of the Dead standard Jack Straw in concert from "we used to play for silver, now we play for life", to "we used to play for silver now we play for Clive".

I even think Clive had a hand in getting Sean Combs/Puff Daddy/P Diddy signed to Arista. Talk about biting the hand that feeds.

Flowers is a total moron, Killers haven't done anything innovative, original, or interesting. Ever. They even managed to drag Lou Reed even further down with their terrible collaboration.

Shortly after The Killers released 'Sam's Town,' Flowers went on to say that it was "real working class music." Local DJ (DJ Noname of 107.7fm) asked Flowers about that, when he got the chance to interview him. Much to his surprise, Flowers denied ever saying such a thing. Noname then went on to play the audio clip of said proclaimation after the interview. That spoke volumes to me as to what kind of person Flowers is.

Marilyn Manson (me being 25 and all) basically said the equivalent of number 3 a generation later:

"I'm tired of people calling me a devil worshiper ... Because if the Devil did exist, he'd be worshiping me." (there are not two 'p's in worshiping, Spin! Go back to middle school spelling class!)

Still the best quote ever:

"Someone asked me if I believed in God - I said no. Now that I think about it, there has to be one, even if I don't believe - because nothing gets this farked up without assistance."
~Kerry King, Slayer.

Most Cocky (Bar None):
"I'm going to die in a pit, in a hole, in a cave, and you all will mourn for my passing."
~Varg Vikernes, Burzum. (God I hate that guy. But it is the most cocky thing to say after murdering someone and burning a church down.)
