I was at that show, so I'd love to have the CD. Gotta stop on my way home!

"bombs between the minarets" never fails to shiver my timbers since Rock the Casbah was (allegedly) adopted as the song of choice by US Marines in Gulf War One.

As much as I didn't care for the Clash at the time, well except Sandinista which I actually wore out, they really have aged well and retain flavor - much like a legendary band should huh?

I likes me The Clash, but Combat Rock SUCKED.

Agreed.

'Combat Rock' was not a high point but considering what passes
for rock THESE DAYS its pretty damned good.

THIS.

And it's actually a good show. But the Clash in a huge stadium opening for The Who for THAT album.. ugh. The idea. And it was the beginning of the end...

This album has been a bootleg for years, so its cool to see an official release.

But man, Combat Rock. I'd rather almost throw on Cut The Crap.

I drove my friends crazy playing "London Calling" when it came out...I thought it was the greatest thing I ever heard in my life.

The only band that matters indeed

The Clash was great.

Check out the excellent Joe Strummer docco "The Future Is Unwritten".

Great stuff.

Streetcore is a lot better, and just as eclectic.

never owned Combat Rcok

my interest faded when they deigned to take my money
for a three album set with Sandinista

Considering they only charged the price of a single album for a triple album.......what are you talking about? I got Sandinista on a double cassette tape and I still have it. Works better as a double cassette in my opinion.

I'll check it out but Im really hoping its an upgrade over the original bootleg that had surfaced. It sounds like at certain times planes are flying over head.

If this new one is soundboard, i'll def be buying it.

Check your facts. Sandinista! was sold as 3 LP's for the price of one. The Clash made next to no money off it because the record sales were just enough to break even, once again putting the fans before themselves.

Back to the drawing board you troll.

Now don't believe it when you're told
"I hope I die before I get sold"
Every great band should be shot
Before they make their Combat Rock

Sandinista is a great double album....unfortunately there's 3 discs of material. They were stretching it with that - albeit it doing so so force the label to sell three discs for the price of one.

Combat Rock is not a bad disc, it is better than Give 'Em Enough Rope which is really the nadir of their efforts. Combat Rock only looks weak because it falls after London Calling and Sandinista which are great discs. There's a lot of good work on Combat Rock.

It would have been much cooler ... 26 years ago!

London Calling is the definitive album of evar I don't care who you are or what you had for breakfast.

Combat Rock wasn't as bad Give em Enough Rope. That was a true statement.

alk44 [TotalFark] 2008-10-08 09:55:32 PM
(but their first untitled album is their best I still think. maybe almost as good as London Calling actually. I just like that old lo-fi punk stuff.)
