People who give a fark about him working with Krauss to the left, people who want to see him with Zeppelin to the right.

Can we just ignore the snoozefest that was Plant/Krauss. If we're gonna talk about beautifully executed acoustic music, let's just study this video, ok?

Didn't an earlier article claim that Zeppelin was planning a North American tour for the summer of 2009?

GOD I'm so sick of the reunion obsession in music. They were at their prime in the 70's, there are plenty of high quality recordings of when they were at their prime--be happy with that and LET IT GO.

That goes for you too, Pink Floyd fans.

Smiths fans, take the preceding diatribe and replace the 7 with an 8.

I don't care what anyone says, I saw 90 minutes of them at Austin City Limits fest and I was absolutely hooked. This is coming from a picky-ass musician. If you can't drop any preconceptions and enjoy Plant-Krauss, I can see right through your "music loving" facade.

awfulperson: I'm so sick of the reunion obsession in music.

Most of the people worth reuniting that haven't are getting old and/or dying. Not too much left after the early to mid 80's that would cause too much excitement.

I don't see the world getting crazy for a Smiths reunion. I'm sure their fans would enjoy, but that's it.

The only band reunion from the last 20 years I can think of, that would excite a lot of people, is Soundgarden. I would be all over that.

Lennon had it right in "Imagine" (the movie).

There's a guy on the other side of a fence from Lennon, and he shouts "Hey John, when are you getting back together?"

Lennon shouts back "When are you going back to grade school".

Don't understand why people think reuniting would result in brilliance..

Has there been anything awesome to come from such a reunion? Not being facetious, just can't think of an obvious example.

I'd pay $5000 for a ticket to see a reunited Smiths. Maybe $10,000. Yes...I'd prefer to see The Smiths again than to giving it to charity or changing a person's life. That's the way I roll.

Dinosaur Jr.'s recently new album.
My Bloody Valentine back on tour with a possible followup album to Loveless.

A Replacements tour would be cool.

It wouldn't sell tickets like The Police, but it would definitely be cool

Can't we all just get along?

You don't get it, do you? Many fans never had a chance to see the band, or got into them after they'd disbanded.

Others, like the bands themselves, are getting older and just want to see them one last time before it's too late. In the case of Pink Floyd, it is.

These are bands that meant something to people. Nothing like today's disposable junk. I seriously doubt many people will be pining for a Fall Out Boy or Limp Bizkit reunion in 30 years.

Iron Maiden, but then again they got back in '99, so it kinda predated the reunion craze.

I would have to say hearing Alison singing "Down to the River to Pray" a capella backed up by Robert Plant, Buddy Miller, and Stuart Duncan is probably as close as to the sound of heaven as I think I'll get.

Also why do these reporters keep thinking Alison is some kind of hick? She grew in a Champaign, home of the University of Illinois, where her mother used to take her to Kabuki and Ballet rehearsals when she was little.

Anybody under the age of 45 or so was too young to go to a Zeppelin show when they were in their prime. Can't blame them for being curious, and it's not like we're talking about a band like the Stones that still goes out on tour once in a while.

Besides, loads of kids want to know more about the kind of music their parents were into. I don't know about other big recent reunion shows, but there were lots of parents with their kids at the Genesis show I went to last fall - and as for me, I sure wish I had taken my grandfather up on his offer to take me to see Sinatra at the Garden.

Ordell: You don't get it, do you? Many fans never had a chance to see the band, or got into them after they'd disbanded.

I DO get it. Even if this act were to miraculously reassemble, it would never be the same. Hundreds of dollars for a ticket, standing several thousand rows back from the stage to see a tiny Robert Plant attempt high notes he hasn't hit in 20 years, to watch a minuscule Jimmy Page try to keep up with the ghost of his former self. And poor John Paul Jones standing there at the keyboard, barely visible, thinking about how he got dragged along behind the other two and will never get the recognition he certainly deserves.

No f*cking thank you. Sorry kids, you missed out on Zeppelin, as did my generation. Your best bet is to stop living in the past and try to find a band of this generation that can deliver the goods.

And good f*cking luck with that.

Seeing Byrne with his new band is pretty tight.

Although, really, Tina's bass-playing was missed. Still, Byrne himself is the same as he ever was, and the band is very TH in concept.

Whereas Plant/Krauss are doing something very dif from LZ.

Byrne, Plant/Krauss - it's all good.

They still refer to Val as 'One Day at a Time star' like that's the only thing she's ever...oh wait, never mind.

Yeah, I call her Val, we're close like that.

She can come and see me, I'm the same boy I used to be.

Even though it's been said already, it's a bit late for us. No Rick Wright = no Pink Floyd.

And Ordell gets it. You do not, no matter what you say. Pink Floyd reunited for a FOUR SONG GIG at Live 8, and people flocked to see that. Limp Bizkit is reuniting...and no one gives a damn, and I suspect no one will care 20 years from now, either. I was 11 the last time Pink Floyd toured. I'd have killed for just one chance to have seen them live. Much in the same way LZ fans want to see them just once before, much like Pink Floyd, it's too late to attempt it.

And if you'd actually listened to Raising Sand, you'd realize Plant's voice is actually in decent shape. Not 70's form, but not terribly far from it.

Just because everyone else wants to go doesn't mean you have to. Some of us would be thrilled to be there, even if we were in the nosebleeds hundreds of rows back. Because being there is enough, even if the view isn't great. We came to listen - watching is the secondary bonus.

So go pee on someone elses parade, will ya?

As much as I'd like to see a Led Zeppelin concert in my life, I can't blame any of these guys for not wanting to turn the clock back.

BTW... my favorite Led Zeppelin CD is #3.

GibbyTheMole 2008-10-07 09:15:10 AM
I'm a Zep fan, but I gotta say, the Plant/Krauss album is fantastic. Let the guy do what he wants. He's sitting on a mountain of money, he probably knows his vocal limitations as he's gotten older, and he's probably bored with singing the same stuff he's done for years and years. If you've done something to death, there's really not much point in continuing to do it ad nauseum.

I think he's making the sensible choice. And it's some damn fine music.
