Why the hell not?

Have you ever been near the offices of the guys studying for a M.Sc. in programming of any sort? Some of them look like a display room for ThinkGeek.

Would still have gone for nerfs only, and only a headshot counts.

Guess, I'd like a little bit more pain and violence involved, but fun none-the-less.

That game has existed for ages on Xbox Live and Online PC multiplayer.

I remeber playing that on Halo 2 and Halo PC back in the day.

Strange. My brain doesn't necessarily associate "pain" and "good time" with one another.

Not to belittle the point, but since when is Halo PC called 'back in the day'? AQ, Q1/TF, Q2, Q3, UT, HL/CS, AvP, and Tribes I would call back in the day. Just me.

My friends and I play a variation on this.

Every other week or so we'll go out to this huge children's playground with lots of wooden structures of various heights/floors and lots of places to hide etc. At around 9-10 at night, so it's dark.

Then 1 person (out of maybe 10+) starts counting to Brains (grumble grumble grumble BRAAAAIINS), and then the hunt is on. The only defense is to run or hide, no assaulting the zombies. Someone gets tagged, they're a zombie. Zombies cannot run, they can only lunge. They also can't talk except to make zombie noises.

After a while someone will yell "Who's still alive?!" and the survivors have to yell out their name, regardless of whether or not they're in a great hiding spot surrounded by zombies. When there's only one person left, the game restarts and that person is the head zombie that round.

It's a TON of fun. ESPECIALLY when there's alcohol involved.

Actually sounds fun since you have such a big area to play in (versus tag as a kid in your house) and also since it can run for hours or days. ..

This of course also means you can cue up the lawsuit for improper touching in 3.. 2.. 1..

JoeShow 2008-10-06 04:11:58 AM
And blue bite proof BDUs.

I think covering your clothes in duct tape would make them bite proof.

It might take two or three layers of duct tape to make sure, but it would be an extremely cheap and easy way to make bite proof clothes.

We used to play a game similar in highschool. Teams were created via a raffle, death was by NERF or purple marker across the throat. Game on so long as you were on school grounds.

The trick was not getting expelled for running around with NERF guns.

So "Humans" wear armbands and are "Zombies" once tagged by a "Zombie" with a headband, if you snag a headband does that count as a headshot and the "Zombie" is out of the game?

We played similar games back when I was in high school. Only back then, it was called "Assassin," and the point was to hunt-down and assassinate your assigned mark. The trick was, there was always somebody out to kill you, too. I'm sure there were others playing that back in the early-to-mid-90's.

The zombie thing sounds fun, but it would be more fun if the zombies wore head armor, and the humans carried paintball guns. It'd liven things up a bit, so to speak. Maybe after being zombified, the ex-human would be allowed one last paintball shot. Maybe to cripple a fleeing human target.

That game sounds much better than my childhood game. I grew up in the ghetto so we would just beat eachother up and pretend to be in gangs. Pretty lame I know.

Well, I too grew up at the corner of rape and carjack, but our games never entailed pretending to be in gangs and beating each other up. In fact, apart from the extra rule of dodge the junky, we played all the regular games the kids in the burbs play.

Kids these days...

I grew up playing the two most traditional games of all. The first was called "Arguing about the rules until someone punches someone else.", which quite frequently led to the übertraditional "Kids fighting until someone gets kicked in the teeth and it isn't fun anymore."

You guys make me weep for my age.

Someone mentioned an earlier variant called "Assasination."

The full name was "The Assasination Game" aka TAG. Duh. (Which was even made into a horrible movie in the mid-80s.)

Steve Jackson Games even released a rulebook on the general principle of the game along with numerous variants.

At college, we used rubber dart guns, water balloons, flour bombs, you name it, all in the name of "The Last Survivor Wins."

It was all fun and games until our anal powers-that-be clamped down on us and forbade us from playing the game with "weapons" because, apparently, the sight of a person chasing a screaming person across campus with a rubber dart gun was "disturbing the peace" and the campus cops had orders to ARREST people engaged in such behavior.

/School shootings quickly made this game difficult to play on campuses nation-wide.
//My best "kill" was when I managed to get into the dorm room of my target, who was a frequent winner of these games and always carefully and purposely made himself "absent" everywhere on campus. I rigged his study lamp to blow out its bulb by attaching a paper clip to the plug and plugging it back in the outlet WHILE it was off and leaving a note under it saying "The moment you flicked the light switch, the bomb went off. YOU ARE NOW DEAD."
///Was gratified to hear from his roommates, who were in on it, that he let out a scream when the bulb shorted and found the note.

Haha...yes, my brother and I know that game quite well. I always ended up with the wind knocked out of me...god, I hate that feeling. But I cracked his head open once, so we're even.

Also featured in a CSI episode a while back, as if it was the hottest new invention ever.

Did seem somewhat cooler when played with the a random selection from the population of New York City signing up on some website, than with a couple of guys from school.
