Not that I needed it, but this is another reason I can put on the list to vote for him.

A lot of people say he is just full of empty rhetoric, and that his message of hope and change is specious and vapid.

I disagree. He has proven on numerous occasions, both before and after his announcement of his run for presidency, that he is worthy of my vote, and my hope.

But but but - Republicans don't count stuff like this as important, so it allows them to say the stupid shiat they do.

Landslide.

That was sweet. I met the man very briefly back in 2002 (he mentions the rally at my alma mater in the beginning of his second book) and I can't say I'm surprised. He just seems like a genuinely nice guy. Plus, he's obviously totally into his wife, which has always been a good rubric of character for me.

Dammit, that's a great idea. I just gave $103 as well. Would have been the first weekend I got through without donating something :)

Call Paul Harvey and send this in to The Reader's Digest.

Barack healed my Grandma's bunions!

Whenever I hear Obama's "Change" rhetoric all I can think of is Homer Stokes from "O Brother Where Art Thou".
Where's Obama's midget with a broom?

In the spring of 2006 Mary's parents had heard that Obama was considering a run for president, but that he had still not decided. They chose to write a letter in which they told him that he would receive their votes. At the same time, they thanked Obama for helping their daughter 18 years earlier.

Look, I know it is a story that was drugged up from his youth in order to reflect well upon him as a person. I know that it is being played here for maximum sap value. I get that, I really do. This still made me genuinely smile. I also happy that, with certainty for once, I can vote for a candidate that I believe is a kind, thoughtful person.

One of these things is not like the other. Let's see if you can focus long enough to understand.

If "pundits" were crowing about some good deed Palin or McCain did, you'd have an actual point instead of a knee jerk.

Obama doing a good deed some time in the past does not warrant a green light much less any sort of news coverage. The same thing applies to any of the candidates. It's not news.

When John McCain was held captive as a P.O.W. he was offered to be let free before the other servicemen, he said he wouldn't leave before them.

Nevermind that every single captive was offered this and every single one refused it.

DamnYankees: I'm honestly curious about this - have there been any stories about Barack Obama being a jerk in real life? I mean, it wouldn't mean much either way, but I don't think I've ever seen a story like that.

here's one about McCain from this month's Rolling Stone:

It's the spring of 1974, and Navy commander John Sidney McCain III has returned home from the experience in Hanoi that, according to legend, transformed him from a callow and reckless youth into a serious man of patriotism and purpose. Walking along the grounds at Fort McNair, McCain runs into John Dramesi, an Air Force lieutenant colonel who was also imprisoned and tortured in Vietnam.

McCain is studying at the National War College, a prestigious graduate program he had to pull strings with the Secretary of the Navy to get into. Dramesi is enrolled, on his own merit, at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in the building next door.

There's a distance between the two men that belies their shared experience in North Vietnam - call it an honor gap. Like many American POWs, McCain broke down under torture and offered a "confession" to his North Vietnamese captors. Dramesi, in contrast, attempted two daring escapes. For the second he was brutalized for a month with daily torture sessions that nearly killed him. His partner in the escape, Lt. Col. Ed Atterberry, didn't survive the mistreatment. But Dramesi never said a disloyal word, and for his heroism was awarded two Air Force Crosses, one of the service's highest distinctions. McCain would later hail him as "one of the toughest guys I've ever met."

On the grounds between the two brick colleges, the chitchat between the scion of four-star admirals and the son of a prizefighter turns to their academic travels; both colleges sponsor a trip abroad for young officers to network with military and political leaders in a distant corner of the globe.

"I'm going to the Middle East," Dramesi says. "Turkey, Kuwait, Lebanon, Iran."

"Why are you going to the Middle East?" McCain asks, dismissively.

"It's a place we're probably going to have some problems," Dramesi says.

"Why? Where are you going to, John?"

"Oh, I'm going to Rio."

"What the hell are you going to Rio for?"

McCain, a married father of three, shrugs.

"I got a better chance of getting laid."

Dramesi, who went on to serve as chief war planner for U.S. Air Forces in Europe and commander of a wing of the Strategic Air Command, was not surprised. "McCain says his life changed while he was in Vietnam, and he is now a different man," Dramesi says today. "But he's still the undisciplined, spoiled brat that he was when he went in."

The insinuation that John McCain, a former prisoner of war, was ever a "jerk" should be offensive to all Americans. For five-and-a-half years, John McCain couldn't be a "jerk."

What makes this story more awesome is that in 1988 i'm assuming 103 dollars was probably not a trivial sum for a community organizer. Just freaking awesome.

I've given thousands to charity, 100's when people need it. When I was a mechanic I even paid for and installed an entire exhaust system on a single mothers car, on a Sunday we were closed, just so she could pass state inspection. I never got any kudos like this.

This is just the kind of nanny state crap I would expect from a "community organizer". If this woman had planned her life better, she would not have been in a position where she was unable to pay a $103 surcharge. In fact, if allowed to pull herself up by her bootstraps, it's likely that she would have been able to use the freedoms and liberties granted by the Constitution to eventually be able to buy the airline herself! Barack Obama has instead ensured that this woman is now dependent on charity and probably welfare.
