Right before the part with the word "suckers," if I recall correctly.

That would be a great example of bipartisanship. Make it a cabinet position. But not the liquor cabinet.

That Obama is taking time to hold a rally in Anchorage, while McCain has decided Michigan isn't worth his campaign dollars speaks volumes about this election.

It's beginning to look a lot like there could be a landslide in Nov.

I don't think Obama was even there, it easily possible that his supporters set it up

I don't know about a landslide, but if things go well for Obama during his first term, he's already laid the groundwork for a landslide in 2012. It's a tall order, since there are so many problems that he's going to be blamed for, but at the same time, any significant improvement in the economy or the war during the next four years will help him.

According to Electoral Vote, McCain / Palin is currently leading in Alaska 55% / 38%, and Arizona 52% / 38%. Not a very strong showing in their home states.

Incidentally, if the election was held today, Obama would win with 329 electoral votes against McCain's 194. That's a pretty big split. In other news, Texas and its 34 votes are likely to switch to Obama by the election -- that's a major slap in the face to the Republican party.

Landslide? Yes.

floor9 [TotalFark] 2008-10-05 07:48:14 PM
In other news, Alaska will be accused of having a liberal bias in 5...4...3...

floor9 [TotalFark] 2008-10-05 07:51:52 PM
Then the emcee reminded us about how much Alaska would "get" if Palin was the VP, and also that our enemies hate us because of our way of life, and our freedoms, and "all they want to do is kill American soldiers." Then he said the only thing the rally was missing was "an effigy of Katie Couric."

Wow. There's no hate like Republican hate. It's one thing to have protesters running around acting like jackasses, but to hear it coming directly from the party itself is inexcusable. That the McCain campaign wants to burn media outlets that present views they don't agree with is beyond disturbing. Accusing the Democrats of wanting to "kill American soldiers" is reprehensible. I hope this is the final straw that finally wakes up the remaining conservatives in the Republican party to the fact that they've been completely overrun by neocons.

Unbelievable.

According to fivethirtyeight.com it's Obama 339.7 McCain 198.3

Just playing the Devil's advocate, Illinois is only 54% / 40%. Having grown up there, I know that the state really is a mix of demographics (urban/rural, conservative/liberal, Democrat/Republican), much more so than Alaska. I know that Chicagoland has more in common with coastal "elites" and downstate is basically north Kentucky. But still, you can't go by numbers alone.

I guess it would depend how you define "landslide", but if Obama gets 340+ EVs, or McCain wins less than 40% of the popular vote I'd call that a landslide. And if the current trends continue, both of these are real possibilities.

And when you take into account that Obama is the first black presidential candidate in American history... I think it's pretty amazing.

It's all quite inspiring, doncha' know?

I agree; it all depends on how you define a landslide. I'm sure that Fox News's definition is going to be different from MSNBC's, come election day.

On a side note, I've been spending some time at 270 to Win, where they have electoral maps from every presidential election. Looking at the electoral maps from 1980-88, 1972, 1964, 1956, etc., I realize we're very unlikely to see landslides on THOSE terms for awhile.

Cool thing to see on that site -- the map for 1916 is almost exactly the opposite of 2000.

And yet a glass is half empty kind of guy would look at the approval ratings of Bush and the war and think that McSame should be losing by a lot more.

Forty-Two: I agree; it all depends on how you define a landslide. I'm sure that Fox News's definition is going to be different from MSNBC's, come election day.

Remember that all the networks were calling Bush's win in 2004 a "mandate by the American people", and Fox was quick to hail it as "one of the biggest landslides in history". It certainly was one of the biggest 43 landslides in presidential elections, but I don't think that's what they meant.

McCain could lose by 200 electoral votes, and Fox would say it's still "too close to call" until 2012.

That's purely a Rupert Murdoch thing. He's been hedging his bets for quite some time now.

They had that ceasefire meeting a while ago and the O'Reilly interview was part of that.

He knows that you don't want to be on the wrong side of the Administration, so you better start building up a few months of warm fuzzy feelings just in case.

Weaver95's life is like a metaphor for America.

Weaver = America the Beautiful
Weaver's dad = Republican voter that won't get off the couch
Weaver's TV = WHARRGARBL that won't be silenced
Weaver's life = tiresome and terrifying glimpse into the abyss that awaits the lucky ones

While I don't know about a landslide, it was never looking like a McCain victory. He got a predictable bounce that went away. The msm spins it as tight bc it sells.
