See, blacks were popular and influential in Washington long before Barack Obama. I bet Mr. Change couldn't even open a walnut with his teeth.

squirrels are rats with fluffy tail. They are gross, disease ridden and delicious when fried.

I'm in SW DC right now and there's about 10 squirrels playing outside so I'm getting a kick...

I read this in the Washington Post Express on Friday. Very well written and true. I especially like this line:

After all, seeing a gray squirrel rushing around downtown as if he has important places to be is about as unusual as seeing a guy in a charcoal suit doing the same.

Then the bit at the end after they go through the history of people in 1906 feeding the squirrels it points out that it is now illegal to do so.

shiat, they're just trying to get a nut, dog.

They also detail the release of 18 black squirrels from Canada at the National Zoo in the early 1900s. The black squirrels seen throughout much of the area today are descendants of those squirrels. It is likely, Thorington says, that many of the gray squirrels that flourish in Lafayette Square, on the Mall and in other areas likewise descend from the early gray squirrel releases.

Good job little Canuck squirrels. Invading America, just like our militias back in 1812 and Celine Dion in Las Vegas.

FTA: In 1955, squirrels started bothering the resident of a more prominent home. White House squirrels were scratching up President Dwight Eisenhower's private putting green on the lawn just outside his office. Messing with America's First Golfer is not a good idea. The White House squirrel patrol was put on high alert and launched "Operation Squirrel Seduction" (later renamed "Operation Exodus"), which culminated in the trapping and relocation of three resident squirrels.

Operation Squirrel Seduction??

This just reinforces that the most powerful lobby in DC is AARP. Damn but those geezers lurves them some squirrels.

If the NRA were half as powerful as they're rumored to be we'd be past this scourge in a season.

This is serious shiat. We primates have been at war with the rodents for 20m years, and frankly, the rodents are winning.

Primates are American originally, but about 20m years ago a land bridge to Asia opened up and the rodents poured in. They started out in China. Fortunately we escaped to Europe on another land bridge (?). Anyway the primates ended up getting totally wiped out in the Americas until a chance reintroduction to South America much later.

We survived in the Old World by hiding in the trees. The rodents chased us off the land. A few groups survived by developing socket-style shoulders for climbing, among other things, but the rodent species vatly outnumber the primates.

Now by a feak of nature one primate speces has come to dominate all the planets ecosystems. But in a million years we'll be gone, probably taking a lot of the ecosystem with us.

A few very flexible rodents will survive, and begin to differentiate. The age of rodents is coming.

god damn little farkers. I used to live across the street from the national zoo, on the fourth floor of an apartment building, mind you, and the farking squirrels were constantly breaking in the apartment. Chewing through windows, waiting till you aired out the bathroom, you name it, those farkers were in. My building maintenance guy once vacuumed some babies up who had come through the windows.

yeah, it was the black squirrels.

and I am deadly serious about this. I have such a hate on for squirrels.

RTFA. Blacks were kept in cages at the Zoo until the 1900s.

There's a 12-foot albino Burmese python loose in my town, so I'm hoping the squirrel population is a bit smaller tomorrow.
