What this all sounds like to me is a bunch of delinquents perhaps loosely affiliated with one another who engage in minor criminal activity and spend the rest of the time sitting around making jokes about being in a "crew". Christ I'm 31, so t's been a while since I was a teenager but things ain't changed that much. Even I can see that while the idiots are certainly criminals, calling them a "street gang" lends a bit more credence to their activities than is probably strictly necessary.

So drug dealers that serve primarily white middle income and up customers finally got together and formed a union. Been done before but they are usually smarter than the real street gangs about keeping a low profile. I saw stuff like this in Spanish Harlem as the gentrification started to come in. White students living where the rent is cheap getting together and buying bulk in their neighborhood and distributing to the lower Manhattan schools and wall street. While the black and latino gangs kill and rob each other for corners and projects, their low-key young preppy neighbors are making a killing by not looking like a scary person to buy drugs from.

My (quiet, middle-class, Boston) neighborhood had the Fruits and Vegetables Gang a few years ago. They gave themselves intimidating names like "Banana" and "Celery", and beat up kids who made fun of them.
