The Swedish Chef doesn't say "børk". For starters, ø isn't a letter in the Swedish alphabet -- they have the 26 English letters, plus å, ö, and ä. Ø is Danish and Norwegian.

Second, "börk" (which uses the Swedish equivalent of ø) would be pronounced "berk".

It would just be written "bork" in Swedish. Basically:

The Swedish "o" sounds like the English "oo".
The Swedish "å" sounds like the English long "o".
The Swedish "ö" doesn't have a direct homophone, but somewhat like "uh" or "eh"
And the Swedish "ä" is like the "a" in "hat" or "cat".

Swedish sounds good as it is.

Now, the Danish language... that's another story.

IrieTom 2008-10-05 05:22:24 PM
In high school, I was friends with a Swedish exchange student. He said that he found the swedish chef to be hysterically funny because sprinkled amongst all of the gibberish and nonsense were some actual swedish words. Of course, they were totally out of any context whatsoever.

pillowpants 2008-10-05 05:22:50 PM
That's nothing, Facebook has a language setting for pirates.

Joker you diabolical... 2008-10-05 05:23:03 PM
As a kid I always thought the Swedish chef had been driven mad by his arcane culinary ambitions. What does one cook in a theater filled with talking livestock, and living mythological creatures? Sanity would not be on the menu.

This. And also, he speaks kind of like we do when we're lampooning Norwegian, which really makes him funny as hell.

For the cultured, here's Habanera, Swedish Chef style
