If someone can explain to me the relationship between "homeland security" and "number of pigs on the farm" which results in the mandatory non-disclosure of aforementioned information using a valid argument form and rational premises, I will eat my hand with a spork.

I'm from the area so I'm getting a kick, yada yada yada.

No, really, this is another one of those cases where they build a development next to a pig farm, and the morans that are dumb enough to buy houses there complain about the smell, and now want to shut the farm down. MORANS. I hope they all default on their mortgages and get forclosed.

THAT'S ENOUGH!!!!! You're all going to Gitmo. The pig police (AKA the pig pigs or the Soowee Squad) will be along shortly, your cooperation is mandatory.

The protection of the food supply during civil unrest falls under the jurisdiction of Homeland Security.

According to the residents complaining no one had a problem until a 1000 head enclosure was built without permits three years ago. Is that true?

Sadly, I'm not surprised.

I chked out the website of "concerned" loonie, all it needed was a "approved by PETA" stamp & an "OMG!!! THEY EAT MEAT!!!" page.

Terrorists are Muslim and Muslims don't like pigs. Those pigs are our secret weapons and if everyone knew about them, the terrorist win.

The government would prefer that terrorists or roving hordes don't know where we keep the most pigs. Because they are an important part of feeding our people.

ssrat 2008-10-05 02:47:32 PM
It smelled so we took it outside... right where all the neighbors can smell it, perfect.

I'm surprised that there are not barns with specially designed ventilation systems that can clean the smell from the barns as well as not making one want to gag a mile away

There are. That's exactly what these people are asking for.

Doesn't DHS have anything better to do than telling farmers not to tell people how many cows they have?

I sense that you're being somewhat flippant, but that's pretty much exactly why DHS is doing this.

Aulus [TotalFark] 2008-10-05 03:09:00 PM
Let me get this straight.

If I go up to my brother-in-law's farm and ask how many cattle and pigs he has, it's against the law fpr him to tell me? Or if I go up there, while he is running the combine out in the fields, count all the live stock and then post it here, I go to gitmo?

WTF?

filter 2008-10-05 03:13:16 PM
I bet you anything that if they rezoned that land as residential, the farmer would sell out in a heartbeat to a developer.

Not sure if it's as serious as all that and I somehow doubt that you'd get Gitmo'd for it, but DHS is pretty concerned with it. I'm sure that your bro-in-law could tell you, but I don't think he could legally make that information public, not that he'd ever really have any reason to do so. And I'm pretty sure they're more concerned with the bigger, corporate farms than some dude with ten hogs and five cows in Podunk, Indiana or wherever.

I am from Texas, and to ask a rancher how many cows he has is the same as asking how much money he has in the bank. It is very rude and just not done.

So under this DHS mandate, I would not be able to, hypothetically, reveal that I have zero pigs and zero cows.

/I have a number of pigs and cows, I just cannot say what that number is.

Really? Seems to me it'd be a bit like bragging rights. Something along the same lines as the square footage of their house.

Perhaps this has something to do with agricultural subsidies and farmers getting paid for how much they don't grow.

iaazathot 2008-10-05 04:00:55 PM
Why is anybody surprised by things like this. For what purpose did everyone think the Department of Homeland Security was formed...homeland security (bahahaha). No, it was formed so that any mandate necessary to control the populace could be fabricated. It was the biggest federal government power grab in history, and so many people just said, "Okey dokey."

/what is the current terra alert color of the day, has it ever changed since 2006?

Yellow, orange, or red. It has never been lowered to green or blue.

/guess why?
