Where do you find the huckleberries?

Out in the woods, drinking kind of this stuff.

The thing about huckleberries is, once you've had fresh, you'll never go back to canned.

12 oz of vodka
12 oz of lemonade concentrate
3 Beers. (Budweiser is fine.)
Lots of ice serve ice cold, don't tell anyone whats in it until after they drink it.

Those IPAs are really popular now and I find them at most beer stores thankfully.

I love 'em.
My wife recently demanded I curtail my hard liquor consumption but the IPAs are so damned strong I hardly miss my Scotches and Bourbons.

Most IPA is 6-7% alcohol.
Only 3-4 get me into my "zone"

Ahhhh....an early grave awaits me.

Spent a lot of time in Oregon and, if I may, can suggest a small personal preference; substitute Black Butte Porter for the Ale, and you have just moved one step closer to the devine

If you have tried this porter you know what I mean and are also fortunate for the experience

I was out in Bend back in February and they had an obscenely good imperial stout at right around 11% abv. God that stuff was tasty.

My favorite beers are IPAs. I just love the bitter! However, I can't say I'm a huge fan of the overly dry-hopped IPAs (I'm looking at you 120 Min Dogfish Head IPA). They are just too sweet, make me feel kind of sick to my stomach. I recently had a great one that I think is my current favorite:

lh5.ggpht.com

It comes in a huge 22oz bottle that is enough to get you buzzin'

Delicious!

It's an expensive limited run. The only place I know of that has it is a Dogfishhead restaurant. I think they charge something like $25 a glass.

They've bottled them in four packs.

Stone, Southern Tier Unearthly and Dales are my favorite IPAs.

Actually you can buy a 12oz bottle of it for about $9 if you find a good local beer store. In gainesville, FL they sell it at Gator Bev(erage). Supposedly it's really good if you age it for a decade or so in the bottle (like samiclaus beer), but I mean who has the time for that?!

Imagine putting a bottle of beer in the back of your fridge for ten years, moving it to clean out the fridge, when you move, etc. Then finally after ten years you get to drink it, realize it's the best thing you've ever had, and then you have to wait another decade to put more in the fridge to have another. Or, you could put a bunch of 'em in the fridge, wait a decade, discover it's terrible when you do eventually drink it, and realize you wasted all that room in your fridge for nothing.

Although, I went to a Dogfish Head brewery once, and they had pre-aged bottles (i think they were 2-5 years), but they were ridiculously priced (Extra $10 per year?! fark That!)

/The build-up, it's killing me!

I am just not a fan of Pendleton Whiskey; it tastes like it was made from a powdered mix. There are plenty of other distillers here in Oregon to choose from. I'm kind of partial to the HogsHead Whiskey, which tastes like a blend of Irish Whiskey and Bourbon. Although, it can be a tad bit "sharp".

Jamey is my standard whiskey, but the 18 year is so smooth. True it's still a blend, but I'd choose it over most single malts! Slainte ;-)

MMmmm huckleberries. I'm not convinced an IPA is the best thing for it though. Black Butte Porter or an imperial stout sounds like it would go be a better choice. I guess it doesn't fit their NE Oregon theme though. But I've been to Enterprise and it seems like an odd place for a craft brewer.

Kiliana 2008-10-05 02:08:53 PM
Ashtrey, Redflag, etc: I think of Dogfish Head's 120 minute as more a hop cordial than an IPA. It's a completely different experience than a nice cool, refreshing IPA.

If you want something interesting, track down Heavy Seas Loose Cannon Hop3 Ale. It smells and tastes not like hoppy beer, but like fresh hops themselves. Very flowery and interesting, although not something I'd pick for a night of heavy drinking. A good sipping beer, not nearly as overpowering as the 120 Minute.

farkuufarkinfark 2008-10-05 02:38:57 PM
I've made several trips to the Dogfish Head Brewery/Restaurant this summer.

I think 60 Minute is my #3 beer ever.

They have a distillery there as well, and if you ever get the chance to try it, I think their "jin" is fantastic. The Blood Orange Vodka and the Vanilla Vodka are tops as well.

I was stocking up on the spirits (about 10 bottles), and noticed they had 120 on draft. I asked the bartender if I could try it. He pours me a snifter full. I told him I just wanted to try it. He told me, dude, you just bought $200 worth of alcohol. I think I can give you a 120.

That was a fantastic beer. But not one I would ever drink in a bar again. I had to wait almost two hours before I could go back home.

It is available in finer beer/package stores for around $10-15/bottle, and notably more expensive in DFH in Delaware. I wouldn't pay more than $10 for it if I wanted to get it again.

Oh, and for those interested in my top 5... Going to Vegas in a few weeks - can't wait to try some local beers out there. Who knows, maybe they'll throw someone off my top 5 list.

#1 Sweetwater IPA
#2 Bells Two Hearted Amber Ale
#3 DFH 60 Minute
#4 Smuttynose IPA
#5 Green Flash IPA

There is nothing as awesome as a free 120.

My friends and i have started using it as a party gift. If someone throw a party, at least one of us will bring a 120. Always get things rolling and people talking. Hell of a beer.

This is the most "Oregon" drink ever concocted, hands down.

Also, the guy who suggested Dogfish Head 120, you're crazy. If anybody ever mixes that with anything I will hurt them. Black Butte Porter would be a good substitute, but a good hoppy IPA would be much better.

Really, I can't even find Deschutes here in Dallas. Rogue I can get at the foofy upscale organic crap store at like 8 bucks a bottle.
