Dumb farks.

It's retarded how the author of the article tries to pain them in a positive light and garner sympathy for them.

They were farking told they were going to die if they stayed there. This was no surprise to anyone. None at all.

I have as much sympathy for these wastes of oxygen as I do for the teenagers who get hit by trains trying to race across the tracks.

I truly had a hard time feeling bad for the people that stayed in Galtown. And, of course, they were the first to biatch that they weren't being looked out for (sorry, ended in a prep). Eff'em

No, she just told them that love wasn't going to have anything to do with it.

FTFA: "They did not deserve to go this way."

Well, yeah, kinda they did. They should have left when they had the chance, like the rest of the people are still alive did. I mean, it's s shame your mom and sister and cousin had to die, but they only did so because they failed to GTFO when they had a chance. They had lots and lots of warning and didn't leave. They paid the price for that bad decision and, basically, got exactly what they deserved.

Sounds cruel to say that, but it's the plain truth. Their deaths were needless, sure. But to say they didn't deserve their fates is complete and utter bullshiat. They were told to leave or die. They refused, they died. Where's the mystery here? Where's the injustice? Those deaths were 100% preventable and the fact they they weren't prevented rests squarely on the shoulders of those who made the choices.

It's the people who stayed and lived who didn't get what was coming for them as a result of their stupid, stubborn decisions. Officials were saying "This will be fatal, and you're staying at your own mortal peril. Get out or die". The ones who lived through it cheated death.

Anyway, having a hard time bringing up any sympathetic thoughts. You're relatives made foolish decisions which cost them their lives. Sucks, but they weren't that bright apparently.

Just goes to show you that Texans aren't nearly as bullet proof as they think they are. They should have learned from the lessons given to us by Katrina.

How sad that people that did not want to die, did so anyway out of stubborn ignorance or pride.

When even the gov't tells you to leave, leave.

Here's an exception: When our latest morons, who cannot even balance their own budget, tell you to pass their "bailout plan", do not.

All of my assets are in cold gold at the moment.

betasp: Only a few people drowned in the surge, the rest lacked survival skills.

Lots of people died in the storm surge. It's just going to take a while to find the bodies that weren't swept out to sea.

There are already hundreds of people missing.

I remember when Hurricane Charley was coming up the west coast of Florida (I am from Port Charlotte, FL originally). It wasn't even a question for my parents to evacuate even when all the weather guys were "certain" it was going to hit Tampa. You just don't sit around in your house when a hurricane is above a category 1.

Of course, I would expect this kind of behavior from the "tough and proud" Texans.

I can't believe you're so farking cold. We're talking about people here, who were expressing their freedom, their self-reliance, and their strength in adversity. The very traits that made America the great nation it is today.

This article does nothing to address the theories that there are dead numbering from the hundreds to low thousands. Yes, TFA says "Hundreds of people remain missing" but I wonder if it's really possible to cover up the deaths of so many if true.

The woman stayed because she couldn't get her dog into her jeep? Are you kidding me? How hard would have it been to ask a neighbor to do it before everyone bugged out?

The ones I feel sorry for are any children who died. FTFA some as young as 4 died. While the adults made their own choice and must take full responsibility for their death. Children didn't have a choice. Mom or dad sentenced them to death.

Maybe they could have expressed their freedom where they weren't about to get farked up by a hurricane.

When you have thousands of tons of debris in the marshes, along with an entire ocean to swallow up corpses, there's no need to cover up deaths.

I couldn't agree more. One thing Katrina taught us is that it's not enough to simply tell people to GTFO days in advance.....nor is it enough to count on state and local Government officials to know the demographics of his/her population and provide transportation for those who have none.

Bush's fault for sure.

And yet it wouldn't be all that technically difficult to have a bottom-up registry of the dead updated by surviving family members/friends. In an era where I can keep track of PLA air bases and Chinese nuclear testing using google earth (see my profile), it is a little strange that so many deaths can go unnoticed.

I think we should place a monument for these people. Somehow a cast bronze statue of a mentally retarded child being raped by this big guy in a 'Hurricane Ike' t-shirt would be appropriate.

skankboy,

> I still feel bad. Sad.

Sad, maybe. Bad, why?

If you want to feel sad over the deaths of people who die of their own ignorance, then you're going to be very busy, indeed, but that's your problem.

If you're also going to feel bad over the deaths of people who die of their own ignorance, then I'm afraid I can't help you there.

I'm as stubborn as the next guy, but I would have gotten the fark out of there...

For the record, I lived in Victoria, about 2 hours south of Houston. On Wednesday, it looked like Ike was coming right at us. On Thursday, I evacuated to San Antonio, and was drinking beer on the golf course while these idiots were standing firm... Evacuating isn't a difficult thing to do, pack a few things and get out.

And he could have pulled that scheme off, too, if he had modeled his ranch BBQ on the 38500-meal Solar Kitchen in India

That's right, the world's largest solar kitchen.

I was in Galveston yesterday, and judging by the list compiled by the Laura Recovery Center, most of those people are probably dead. It still looks like Ike hit the day before. There is no coverup here; there's just lots of debris and lots of places to look. What's sad is when you read the list of all the people that stayed in Gilchrist, Bolivar, Crystal Beach and the other decimated areas who are still missing -- and kept their children with them.

geetus 2008-10-04 08:32:18 PM
I hear there are about 400 or so missing. While I can say that evacuating would have been unnecessary for me (I live about 60-70 miles from the coast - well outside the evac zone), it's hard to believe that someone would choose to stay in Galveston. All anyone had to do was drive about 30 miles inland and they would have been fine. It's really NOT the type of place you want to be during a hurricane. I'm not going to be so cold as to say "Those idiots got what they deserve," but the warning came in plenty of time. Willful ignorance killed these people. After the "lesson" learned from Rita, though, coupled with the misleading "it's just a cat 2" attitude that a lot of people had, it really doesn't surprise me that some didn't heed the warning.

What do you mean by "give them a farking break"??

Are you saying that we shouldn't comment on their stupidity?

That's not going to happen. They were farking idiots.

Are you saying that we should lament them?

We're not, no more than we lament the rednecks who die trying to jump their four-wheeler across a fire pit.

Jean-Puc_Licard 2008-10-04 08:33:25 PM
There's about 300 people listed as missing in the Houston Chronicle. Most of them are in their 70s or older.

What kind of city gives up on counting the missing?
That's sick.
