With the Palin-sized handicap he has already, I hardly think a couple diplomats in Eye-Raan would make much difference, doncha know.

Just because the Democrats are currently more benign does not mean their motives are any less selfish than the Republicans- they all just want to win, and they'll say what ever it takes to guarantee that.

Or, we can just overthrow the government and try something else. More practically, vote for whatever platform you prefer- but don't be delusional. Nobody in government cares about you. Your tax dollars, on the other hand...

Worst things first. This cycle, crush the GOP into a discredited and humiliated unreconstitutionable pulp. Then it's the DNC's turn.

All "Both sides are bad" really means is that any alternative to them would also be bad (because being bad only comes from having power). So either we have no leaders at all or we just choose at random because they are all the same.

Which of those is the better idea ?

You may be interested to know that the people of a non-democratic country do not necessarily agree with their government.

You have spotted the earlier thread "It's not true that foreigners dislike Americans... it's just our government they can't stand", haven't you? You don't have to want to kill a whole people just cause their leaders are jerks. Some people would call that a slight over-reaction.

jerry2a 2008-10-04 11:54:53 AM
To be fair, I don't think that's QUITE what the article said...

Thus, opening an interest section, or de facto embassy, in Tehran could be interpreted as a Republican president helping a Republican nominee by neutralizing a distinction that might make the Democrat appealing. Or, it could be seen as hurting McCain by leaving him to defend a more hard-line position than the current Republican president's.

Well in all fairness, Lincoln was even more of a "uniter not a divider" as W and started a drawn out and unpopular war. And he was the 1st Republican president after the break of the Democratic Republican Party..

So really, it is Jefferson, the principal author of the Declaration of Independence and one of the founders of the Democratic-Republican party who would weep. Knowing the party he gave birth to has become the single political party ruling over the country with nothing more than a game of "good cop, bad cop" posing as the democracy he and his contemporaries fought so hard for.

No election should be allowed to affect the normal operation of the government.

To openly state that you're making a major policy change in order to affect (or keep from affecting) the outcome of the election shows a level of partisan corruption that it frankly disgusting. Fark you, Mr. President. If you can't do your goddamned job, step down from office.

More importantly, that could very well be an impeachable offense.
Abuse of office at the very least.

True, but in the past they backfired because it was a stupid decision (like allowing the United Arab Emirates to buy a significant amount of US ports in 2006). This time the decision to sent a diplomat is a giid one (in theory) but it's sidetracked in the interest of McCain's campaign.

Well, it is one thing we have a surplus of. Prisoners.

Don't be silly. McCain says he'd rather win a war than win an election. If we set up a diplomatic outpost in Iran, we may potentially avert a war. They're simply staying on message.

Well the GOP does make most of its connections and money in war. After all, Bush is a "war president" and McCain supports him and his decisions 90% of the time. McCain wouldn't hesitate striking Iran purely on heresay and "the boogeyman is coming" argument.

If they are in the supermax, they are not petty offenders of any sort.

Knowing someone who is currently located in 23 hour a day isolation for the rest of his life, let me vouch that his neighbors in there do not resemble Cheech and Chong

Dude definitely earned it too though. He was transferred from the pontiac maximum security for "sadistic" crimes committed while already incarcerated, and sent to supermax in colorado.
