I have a "no cussing" statue in my township. Looks like it's time to go test it out. I could hit the jackpot!

OK has a no-swearing statute, and it's posted in most public buildings.

TFA: Gallegos - contrary to his training, the documents state - "decided to use his own arrest technique in which he grabs and handcuffs the suspect before explaining that he is under arrest."

York reflexively drew back his arm, which Gallegos interpreted as resisting arrest. Gallegos executed an arm-bar takedown and York struck his head and shoulder on the pavement.

Man, i could totally imagine myself in that situation. Who wouldn't pull their arm away if some someone grabbed at it without warning? Good on him. There is a reason cops are trained so thoroughly. They've no-one to blame but themselves if they can't stick to arrest basics or go overboard on the arrest itself.

Police are proof that the system is flawed. You need 8 years of schooling to become a lawyer with testing, but only two to become a cop? Um, so a person who defends the law has more training than the ones who enforce it? Yeah, that's why stolen merchandise is never found kids.

Sounds like assault and battery to me.

Maybe this will get the police department's attention and they will stop behaving like such bullies... at least for a little while.

At the college I attended, there were signs posted all over the place saying that it was a violation of state 'statues' to post signage on bus stops, light poles, etc. Inexcusable - it's your job to write signs, you need to know how to use your words.

I was going to complain about frivolous lawsuits, then RTFA. Now I think the guy was right and the cop was wrong. But I wasn't there so I'm not going off on a rant this time.

/I'll just do what I normally do and blame the lawyers.

How is that not unConstitutional?

That said, if a cop did this to me, I wouldn't care so much about money as about their being fired or suspended without pay.

I used to think that people overreacted in situations like that until it happened to me last week. I was reversing into a spot (with turn signal on) and this dick coming in the opposite direction goes right around my car and takes the spot. If not for the security cam in the parking lot, I'd have either damaged the guy or his midlife-crisis mobile of a sports car. I am a very passive guy, and my gf was (for once) scared by my behavior.

At a post-trial press conference, York was asked how he felt about using that word in public again. He responded, "If I ever see that biatch again, I'll be sure and be nice to her."

Actually you only need 7 years to become a lawyer and realistically only 3 because everyone knows undergrad is a joke.

It doesn't matter. You can try to ban "cussing", but you can't get rid of it. All you do is change one colloquialism for another.
The letters f and uck make a word that will change to the word fark, but just because the word changed doesn't mean the meaning changed. After a while the usage of fark would have to change in that mindset due to it becoming the word it replaced.

After two rotator cuff surgeries I'm pretty sure I would react the same way if someone grabbed my arm as well.

These are the kind of cops I hate, just acting that way to show they are in charge, I hope he was fired, farking over reacting douchebag. The only time I got arrested was because of some short, fat little pig with an attitude, all the other cops around were cool and about to let me go but this guy was a little shiat. One of the few people I would still hit if I found him out without his gun, I was polite and decent but he still was a little cocksucker and had to keep showing he was in charge.

These places that have statutes against swearing... Do they publish a list of the words that are deemed unacceptable, so that you can tell if you are breaking the law?

janks369: isn't this freedom of speech? calling someone a b*tch doesn't hurt anyone, so why why would anyone give a sh*t?

If I read it correctly, the city was trying to weasel out of this by painting the expression as verbal assault. The appeals court, though, ruled that there wasn't sufficient evidence to prove that he had directed it at the biatch, since the officer's own report suggested that he might have said "what a biatch", which is simply an expression of opinion with no defined target.

For example, if I were to come up to you and say "suck my dick, you cocksucking nerfherder,", that could be construed as assault; however, if I were to walk away from you and say "man, that cocksucker really pisses me off," that would be a statement of opinion, and constitutionally protected speech. Whether the assault charge would actually stick is another matter entirely, but bonehead cops trying to overcome their inferiority complex rarely care whether their accusations have merit -- they just want to throw you in the slammer for a day or so to prove that they can.

I used to live in a small town just south of Grand Rapids, MI. Our neighbor directly behind us had a teenager living with him (still think there was something funny there) that used to throw apples and yell at my (at the time) 5 and 7 year old kids, while they played in my backyard. Farking police wouldn't do a damn thing about him attempting assault, or calling my kids names, such as: farker, arses, sh*ts. Claimed it was his "freedom of speech" to say that to them. In fact, they wouldn't do anything until I told the kid that if he ever spoke to my sons again or tried to assult them that I would rip his throat out and piss on his body.

/getting PO'd just thinking about it again.

Must be fun to have a job where you can cost the people you work for $250k due to being a moron and not get fired for being to stupid to know the rules of your own profession.

Im starting to think the council's email boxes need to be inundated with messages saying they need to be fired or at worst relegated to desk duty till they learn to deal with the public.

Goes to show...you can profit from being an impatient douchebag...Just get another spot, it happens to everyone.

But...the cop should have told him he was under arrest before cuffing him, although the guy was an idiot for resisting.

I really, really hope you're referring to the officer involved.

He said "What a biatch." in his own car, to no one in particular. You've never done that before? Where are you from where something so simple makes you a douche that needs to learn a lesson?
