FTA: "LAST night was a big, big win for Sarah Palin."

In that she has appeared in a presidential debate? Or is it that the three of them are "sassy"?

valloned [TotalFark] 2008-10-03 05:00:58 PM
She is in the same class as a 16-year old highschool girl from 1986...

naveline 2008-10-03 05:01:40 PM
Actually, I don't really dispute this headline so much. She did have that "I'm playing a politician on TV, doggone it!" charisma about her that Reagan could really work. Billy was also real big into winking, and had a folksy accent that helped people who think of themselves as "folksy" relate to him.

That doesn't mean she's capable of holding her own in an ACTUAL debate, tearing down the Berlin Wall or leaving her successor with a swelling budget surplus. It just means she didn't do as horribly as we thought she would and she took some cues from dudes who did it well.

Hmm... I thought maybe that was a bit of hyperbole when I first spied the headline.

jerry2a 2008-10-03 05:35:31 PM
Why are people so upset by this? When I was little, my parents and teachers used to tell me that anybody could grow up to be President. As I got older I became more cynical...but after last night, I have to say that they were right: ANYBODY can be President. This is great news - I'm not going to waste money sending my daughter to college - I'm going to spend more time teaching her how to wink.

Heroic Poser 2008-10-03 05:35:47 PM
With only one difference..

Clinton and Reagan had charisma.

/a +5 charisma

bloobeary 2008-10-03 05:35:50 PM
If she had answered every question by ripping a huge fart, these dolts would still have applauded her "winning" performance.

prjindigo: didn't I mention Reagan ... last week?

I, nor anyone else here, do not know the answer to that presumably rhetorical question. And if Palin is what the GOP is setting up to be their new Reagan Christ, god help them.

DamnYankees [TotalFark] 2008-10-03 05:37:52 PM
I would also be remiss in not mentioning the following - Barack Obama is a better speaker than either Reagan or Clinton. He's the best speaker America has seen since MLK, probably. So its amusing to see Palin vaulted.

Jesus party loyalty is strong. I can't believe what people are willing to say. At least Kathleen Parker had the balls to say what she really believes.

The NY Post is a tabloid. Read it as though you would read The Onion.

Are you actually trying to say that she's as charismatic as Clinton?

Good Christ almighty, you're dense.

Imagine her negotiating a fine point opposite Hillary (or Dick Cheney) in the real 'halls of power'; not in TV land. Either would tear chunks out of her quivering self...

Your sarcasm is unfair, sir. It's like somebody says my name three times in another dimension somewhere, and I'm all of a sudden transported to these threads.

I was minding my own business. But n-o-o-o-o-o-o, I had to be be troll-summoned.

FTFA:

"Another classic came when she bit back at moderator Gwen Ifill and opponent Joe Biden and said she'd answer the questions as she wanted to, not necessarily as they wanted her to do."

Classic.

I did in no way imply she had every good quality Bill had, is exactly "as charismatic as Clinton," nor do I think so. I just said she winked like him, and had a folksy accent, and probably took some pointers from both his playbook, Ronnie's, and GW's.

I watched the debates with three confirmed Obama voters. One of them, a woman over 50, turned to me and complained "She's like a female Ronald Reagan with this twinkly eyed shiat!"

On the subject of Billy, I would vote for him again. Hilly can suck it. But Bill is a straight shooter and a smart guy.

More THIS than I can properly express. The moderator with a closet shrine to Rush and a nasty compulsive self abuse habit from fantasing too much about a Malkin-Mod-Coulter sandwich was obviously in charge of the greenlight button while everybody else went out for a minute to get some coffee.

Cerebral Ballsy [TotalFark] 2008-10-03 06:19:00 PM
If by "she had charisma and sass", you mean, "she came off as smug and cocky"; and if by "she met Biden equally on foreign policy which is his home turf", you mean, "she was pretty slick at dodging and redirection... but not slick enough that I didn't notice"; and if by "she showed she was just as intelligent as XXX historical person", you mean "I realized I was docking her about 3 IQ points too many but she's still about 20 shy of national leader material", then yeah, sure, she won.

Well, hitting a blue dress with a cum shot doesn't necessarily make him a "straight shooter." I will certainly grant that he's a very smart man, albeit a very smart man who has done some very stupid things.

Oh, and the New York Post is only good for lining the bottoms of birdcages. Unfortunately, if you line the bottom of a birdcage with it, its toxic suckitute will kill the bird, so it's not even good for that.

That party is as much the party of Lincoln and TR as America is the country of Agrarian Farmer-Citizens and exploration of the Louisiana Purchase.

Sorry I have to post this again:

Corvus Quote 2008-10-02 12:28:06 AM
The bar could not be lower for her in the debate. And she has been practicing for the debate for weeks.

She will do OK and all the Republicans will jump over the media instantly and declare this a huge win and the comeback of McCain/Palin.

moothemagiccow 2008-10-03 07:11:34 PM
why are republicans so gay for reagan

IN ORDER TO DO WELL IN A DEBATE YOU HAVE TO ACTUALLY ANSWER THE QUESTIONS

she admitted. right in the beginning. that she was not going to answer the questions.

END OF STORY.

Miss Palin, I hate Ronald Reagan, I think he was a dumbass, a charlatan, and a criminal on many levels. Even with all that in mind, you are no Ronald Reagan.
