"The legislation is well-intended, and the desire to make a difference is noble, but mixing moral and political agendas at the expense of our citizens' financial security is not a good combination," testified Brian Andrews, Palin's deputy revenue commissioner, before a hearing on the Gara-Lynn Sudan divestment bill in February. Minutes from the meeting are posted online by the legislature.

Gara says the lack of support from Palin's administration helped kill the measure.

FTFA
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., has been a strong supporter of Sudan divestment efforts, and has urged Americans to liquidate their holdings in companies who do business there. He was criticized for that position when it was revealed in May his wife Cindy held $2 million in investment funds owning shares of Sudan-linked companies. She sold those holdings following a reporter's inquiries.

Money for blood. Until you get caught that is. Go ahead, vote McCain. Let's have 4 more years of this. I'm numb to it anymore.

SkinnyHead: If you read to the end of article, you find out that the Palin Administration did in fact support the state senate bill calling for divestment from Sudan. So it turns out that Palin's statement was correct after all.

"Two months later, at the end of the legislative session, the administration softened its position. Appearing before a Senate committee which was considering a companion measure to Gara's bill, Palin's Revenue commissioner, Patrick Galvin, stated the administration supported such a measure, though it hoped to amend the bill to allow for investments held indirectly, for example in index funds.

"At the last minute they showed up" and supported the divestment effort, Gara said. But by then the legislative session was almost over, and there wasn't enough time to get it passed.

The Alaska Permanent Fund currently holds $22 million in Sudan-linked investments
, according to the non-profit Sudan Divestment Task Force. Divestment advocates say the fund does not need an act of the state legislature to divest itself of those holdings."

How does the end of the article support your statement?

You'd think with that GED in law you could read,

FTA:

"The legislation is well-intended, and the desire to make a difference is noble, but mixing moral and political agendas at the expense of our citizens' financial security is not a good combination," testified Brian Andrews, Palin's deputy revenue commissioner, before a hearing on the Gara-Lynn Sudan divestment bill in February. From the debate (new window):

When I and others in the legislature found out we had some millions of dollars in Sudan, we called for divestment through legislation of those dollars to make sure we weren't doing anything that would be seen as condoning the activities there in Darfur. That legislation hasn't passed yet but it needs to because all of us, as individuals, and as humanitarians and as elected officials should do all we can to end those atrocities in that region of the world.

So she was against it before she was for it. What a farking maverick

HighOnCraic: How does the end of the article support your statement?

It says that the Palin Administration announced support for the state senate bill calling for divestment from Sudan, that's how.

Here's from the record: "...the administration supports SB 227. The bill properly reflects a proactive action against genocide in Darfur by divesting in companies that profit from those activities. The situation is an ongoing human tragedy and Alaska has an opportunity to take a stand against those atrocities..."

Right, but that's not what she said. She said that when she found out about the investments, she called for divestment. That was flat out untrue. She did not call for divestment, and in fact she initially did not support those who did call for divestment.

Did she eventually come around to supporting divestment? You betcha. Does that make her statement last night true? Nope.

She does this about just about everything on her resume.

-- "I'm an oil and gas regulator!" Alaska regulates the oil and gas industry. Palin has nothing to do with it, hasn't messed with it a bit.

-- Alaska, not Palin, is next to Russia. She's thousands of miles away. Alaska has negotiated trade with Canada and Russia in the past -- Palin has not.

-- Alaskan engineers are experts in the energy industry. Palin is not.

-- Alaskan citizens demanded the sale of the jet -- hell, they demanded it never be bought in the first place, and were ignored. She didn't sell it because she thought it was the right thing to do -- she did it because it was a mandate from the people.

-- Alaskans cleaned up the corruption in the AK Republican Party. Palin had nothing to do with it.

She seems to think that if someone in Alaska has ever done anything, then it was she who did it. We've had a lot of rapists and even a couple serial killers up there... wonder if she's *those* things, too....

True.

Since she doesn't read the news (in which Alaskans were discussing our investment there for months before Gara, et. al., submitted the bill), she couldn't have known about it until the bill was introduced.

To be honest, if you watch news from Connecticut, anything that happens to someone from Connecticut, happens to ALL of Connecticut. Someone has an accident, then all of Connecticut has an accident. A family mourns, then all of Connecticut mourns. UConn loses, then all of Connecticut loses. It's similar for Alaskans apparently...

This just in- (for me, anyway)

Palin on Fox News about here Supreme Court disagreement:

"And that's fair, right, and on that one, true, I shouldn't have been so flippant and just sort of brushed aside that," Palin said, "because it was an important question and I should have answered it, and yeah, I can cite a lot of cases that I absolutely disagree with the Supreme Court on."

Did anyone watching that interview see "flippancy" and "brushing aside" of that question?

Important distinction: Losing a house or mourning aren't the kinds of things that pad resumes.

It's more like this:

Someone gets a doctorate degree in CT, the Governor claims a doctorate degree.

Someone in CT wins the Nobel Prize, the Governor claims a nobel prize!

Someone in CT knows something about (whatever-the-hell people do in CT), the Governor is an expert on it, automatically....
