Wow. Talk about damning with faint praise.

(Although McCain might have pointed out that while he was trying to do two things, Obama was sitting on the sidelines doing one thing only: campaigning.)

i'm pretty sure the only thing mccain did in washington was going to the meeting at the white house, and obama was also there. in fact, obama beat mccain to washington by a few hours, and by all accounts actually took an active role in that meeting while mccain sat on the sidelines quietly.

but ya know, facts schmacts.

FARK IT, I'M THROWING DEEP.

The headline was marginally interesting. The Krauthammer smells of bad breath, ass, and dirty socks.

Hey, is this the guy that felt the need to obfuscate the real meaning of the Bush Doctrine in an attempt to explain away a VP candidate's ridiculous performance in a national interview.

*checks link*

IT IS! How special.

I assumed the Reagan 80 threshold referred to getting over 400 electoral votes. I don't think that's what Krauthammer had in mind.

Krauthammer, as always, is a douche:

(Although McCain might have pointed out that while he was trying to do two things, Obama was sitting on the sidelines doing one thing only: campaigning.)

Idiot.

Both were in the same meetings. NEITHER is on the Finance Committee. However, in fact, Obama asked many questions while McCain was silent.

Neither did crap. Obama didn't make a spectacle out of doing crap, though. Verdict: FAIL on McCain.

Bloody William 2008-10-03 01:46:02 PM
Krauthammer is the only right-wing pundit I can think of that doesn't look soft. Like his name sounds, he looks like some kind of mafia hitman, a stone-faced enforcer who starts by breaking your fingers, then works down.

Or, well, in that photo, he looks like a cross between Tony Shaloub and Sam the Eagle.

But on TV he looks like a scary farking killer.

Don't mess with that guy, he'll run over your sandalled feet with his hover-round, while using your nuts as a speedbag.

However, in fact, Obama asked many questions while McCain was silent.

Because McCain was prepared.

Don't you remember that trick in college when you were totally unprepared to ask a lot of questions hoping the Prof wouldn't peg you as unprepared/uninterested? No?

Do you remember college, perhaps?

Kiz 2008-10-03 01:58:21 PM
Whoa. Even Krauthammer is saying that Obama will probably win the election and that McCain is out of chances?

At least he's still doing so in a spiteful manner, so we know that Hell hasn't frozen over yet.

You seem to ask a lot of questions as well. Hmmmmm...

antiflash 2008-10-03 02:05:17 PM
You are so dishonest as usual danlmcpooncrat. Mccain was prepared? Are you kidding me? He couldn't even bother to read the original 5 page proposal before meetings - and that was by his own admission

What did Reagan actually possess when running for pres in 1980?

dazzling rhetoric, natural charisma, and a magic carpet ride of transcendence and hope.

Nothing more. Not even the hope part, really, as the GOP always runs on FEAR. But Krautie doesn't like that Democrats actually like Obama and believe in America's future as a hopeful one instead of a "we're most likely doomed" scenario.

It worked for two reasons: Democrats believe that nonsense

Hope is nonsense?

Charlie must have been crying when he wrote this article. He was probably pounding his fists into his dead thighs so hard he broke his shiatbag.

You know the right is in trouble when the only useful tool they have is a Krauthammer.

/read something like that somewhere.

danlpoon: Because McCain was prepared.

to do what? cause all he did was sit there.

i mean, yeah, he was fully prepared to sit there. and he did a good job of it too.

Jpud73 2008-10-03 02:07:42 PM
do you really know who he is and what he believes?

This is what kills me about some conservatives these days.

All Obama has done in the past few months is talk about who he is, where he came from, and what he believes in.

He's talked about his parents, about his childhood, his time in Chicago. He has talked about his views on what is wrong with the country and what he intends to do extensively.

It's like they hear what they want to hear, then have criticisms about the things they chose to not hear.

I'll let the Talking Heads describe McCain.

You start a conversation you cant even finish it.
Youre talkin a lot, but youre not sayin anything.
When I have nothing to say, my lips are sealed.
Say something once, why say it again?

Or putting the country on the road to bankruptcy. Oh, wait ... too late for that.

Someone needs to shop a WW2 era poster utilizing Krauthammer as something used to fight the Nazi's.

Oh, the link? Saw it was Krauthammer, clicked out.

/should write a macro for that comment

Lawnchair 2008-10-03 02:24:27 PM
Honestly, beating 50.1% in the popular vote puts him as the second most popular Dem president since FDR (the top would be LBJ, less than a year after Kennedy was shot). I'd want to tell Bill Clinton that a real majority of voters actually checked my name, something Mr 43% and 49% never could claim.

I agree with the basic premise here. Obama is intentionally trying to be the calm, cool, "safe" choice-and it's working. Remember about six months back when he was the radical Muslim/radical Christian crazy man? Well, McCain is now the crazy man and Obama seems "conservative" in comparison, in the sense of safe and trusted. This is a winning strategy.

Both Obama's and Biden's performances in the debates show this strategy. McCain was doing his grumpy old man routine, and Palin was...well...doing whatever the hell she just did, while Obama and Biden looked cool, collected, in charge, and, well, "presidential".

Slow and steady wins the race.

Holy carp! I actually AGREE with Krauthammer's analysis (snarky asides not included)? I feel as dirty as I did the first time I found I had ideas in common with Pat Buchanan. Ew.

Either that or he was having a senior moment and couldn't remember why he was there.

Phil Herup 2008-10-03 04:04:24 PM
FTFA:

In the primary campaign, Obama was cool as in hip. Now Obama is cool as in collected. He has the discipline to let slow and steady carry him to victory.

I'd be cool too if 85% of the mainstream media was in the tank for me as well.

All the major networks except FOX are pretty much campaigning for him, questioning NOTHING.

It is really sad.
