When she hit that wink, I wanted to smack her. Hard.

Let's see. We've had eight years of an administration by the "Candidate You'd Want to Have a Beer With"TM and the results speak for themselves. I for one don't particularly want a folksy, "just like me" person running my government and looking the various Putins of the world in the eye to get a sense of their soul.

Wink at me, you prove you're a farkin' lightweight. Honestly now, do any of you right wing types REALLY want this person in charge of scrambling fighters and sending young men and women into combat?

burndtdan 2008-10-03 11:25:50 AM
if a moderately-attractive middle aged woman winking at you is all it takes to get you to fall in love, you really need to get out of the basement and get laid.

On the other hand, I don't want no elitist running my government what thinks he's better than me and makes me look bad in front of my old lady.

My friend, diehard Obama supporter: "That's a straight up "hi boys, I'm hot, vote for me!" wink"

Better Sarah Palin winking at me than Barney Frank.

Absolutely THIS. It occurred to me last night she even made sure she could do it by asking Biden as the first thing out of her mouth before she even went to her podium, "Can I call you 'Joe'?" It was going to be her big catch-phrase zinger and all the folks who prepped her were probably just waiting for her to use it, and when she did there were many high fives all around.

Lame.

"Sexy and sassy?"

More like "moderately attractive for her age and sarcastic/rhetorical."

redqueenmeg 2008-10-03 11:49:32 AM
If I ever pulled that kind of behavior at a job interview, I would hope someone would call me on it. How embarrassing.

pootsie 2008-10-03 11:51:28 AM
Gotta admit, she was cute when she winked. I think 4 or 5 times. Anyone count?

She was so cute when she winked, she could have easily got me into buying a TV or signing up for a subscription or something.

But I'm not voting for cute in the White House.

All the great leaders of the world were ugly, and that is a tradition we cannot part with.

bobbette [TotalFark] 2008-10-03 11:51:48 AM
I eat regular leaf lettuce and I thought the spectacle of a grinning and winking candidate who couldn't answer a single question was horrific, actually.

jonasborg [TotalFark] 2008-10-03 11:55:12 AM
I felt embarrassed for my country watching her on that stage. I cannot believe that this is where America stands. How is there even a chance for this person to be elected?

He probably is. And before you think I'm picking on you, he's probably better then most of us. Still, even though I don't care that he's an elitist, I'm not voting for McCain. He can live in one of his 7 or 8 houses.

ToxicMunkee [TotalFark] 2008-10-03 11:57:34 AM
If people are now voting for our leaders because they're "sexy and sassy", then our country is truly going down the shiatter. We need leaders, not people you want to have sex with. What is wrong with us?!?! I didn't think we could become a bigger joke in the world, but it appears we can.

There were soldiers guarding Reagan's tomb last night just in case he rose from his grave to extract revenge on her using all of his catch-phrases.

You're not Reagan, Sarah. Give it up.

I really hope that I live long enough to see regular elections done away with and the advent of the new Fox show "So you want to be the President ?".

It can't be more than 2 or 3 more cycles away from reality at this point.

If I were interviewing someone and they did that in a job interview, I'd stop writing, ask them if they had any more questions for me, thank them for their time and then dump their resume in the trash.

We voted a recovering alcoholic into office twice because we'd like to have a beer with him.

After that, there's no doubt in my mind that a few winks and "gee golly dontchaknows" will win over voters.

Look out folks, Bobby's Mom is about to become VP.

I like how everyone seems to assume McCain is going to drop dead for health reasons while ignoring the assassination percentages that face either candidate.

We have had 43 US Presidents.
Of that 4 have been assassinated in office (Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley & Kennedy)
Of the remaining 39 there have been 7 separate single attempts (Jackson, Both Roosevelts, Truman, Carter, Reagan, Bush Sr)
Of the remaining 32 there have been 4 double attempts (Nixon, Ford, Clinton, Bush Jr)

So whomever gets into office faces a 10% chance of being killed outright, a 5% chance of being wounded and a 20% chance of having an serious attempt on their life.

A fair estimate would place a higher health risk on McCain but a higher assassination risk on Obama. I think the combined health plus assassination risk for McCain is likely similar to the assassination risk Obama faces because of race.

It's rare that I want to reach through my television to strangle a total stranger, but between the winking, almost creepy extended eye contact with the camera, "I doon't knooow how you fellas in Washington do things...", "hackey mams and Joe Six Packs", "we're Mavericks!", and the almost total lack of answers to 90% of the questions made me want to pretty bad last night.

I loved how Begala's analysis in a nutshell was that both candidates succeeded since it was Biden's task to attack McCain (not Palin) and further the agenda of his presidential running mate, and it was Palin's task to start repairing her post-Couric image. AIM HIGH!

t3knomanser 2008-10-03 12:34:06 PM
When did "elitist" become an insult? "I don't want to vote for someone that thinks he's better than me." Really? Because I sure as hell do! If a candidate doesn't think they're better than me, why the hell are they running for office?

Shouldn't the president be, I don't know, more grounded, more intelligent, better learned and more worldly than the average American? Shouldn't they be... what's the word... ELITE?!

One in three VP's have also been Presidents afterwards.

For that reason alone, you should be voting for Obama / Biden.

Yes he/she/it should. But then again the President works for the people. If you were citizen "Joe Sixpack," think of the caliber of person that would work for you.

Relax, guys. She didn't win. The only people on the planet who think she won are Republican partisans. NRO online reads like North Korean propaganda praising Glorious Reader.

Everyone else saw her recite memorized talking points that weren't even responsive to the questions being asked. Not even half the country thinks she's qualified to be president. They saw Joe Biden thinking on his feet, responding to the questions, and showing that even though he's a bit wordy, he's well-qualified to be president.
