hachijuhachi: Any links to where I could here a GWAR song?

go to www.youtube.com, type in GWAR in the search box and click the search button. Click on one of the pictures with the name of a gwar song next to it. Make sure that your speakers are turned on or you won't be able to hear it.

You should check out This little nugget while you're at it. (rick roll free new window)

I would encourage you to go. You have never seen anything like it. I highly recommend getting close to the action but you will need to wear clothes you don't care about and I recommend latex gloves as the food coloring can be hard to get out of your cuticles. Maybe they've toned down the blood and gore - if they have, then don't bother with the gloves.

I'm tempted to catch that show, but I fear that my mid-30's self would turn out to be "the old guy at the club."

It's been my experience that GWAR attracts a pretty wide age range so go, the show is major fun. It's also been my experience that no matter how old you are there's someone there who's older. My husband and I saw Nightwish (Finnish emo goth metal) last month. I'm 42, he's 53. The audience was mostly teens and early twenties but we weren't the oldest people in the room.

/fun to see a 67-year-old banging his head

You do realize that GWAR was formed in 1985, right?

There will be plenty of people between 30 and 40 at those shows. That's how it goes for metal bands that formed in the 80s and still tour. Go see them. You will not regret it.

farbekrieg 2008-10-03 12:59:23 PM
gwar isnt my cup of tea but their live shows might be their only redeeming quality, definately worth seeing once, even if you dont care for the music

Oh, you got to see Nightwish live? Cool. I missed them when they came through Colorado in May. Fortunately, I had caught Leaves Eyes and Kamelot when they came through the previous August, so I wasn't too broken up about it. It was a great show, but MAN I felt old. Fortunately, the venue they played had a separate "21 & up" area where all us fogies could hang out, drink beer, and not get smooshed by the crowd.

Yeah, saw them in San Francisco at the Fillmore. Great show. I was supposed to see them in Baltimore too but the lead singer got very sick and they ended up cancelling the last four shows. I'd love to see Leaves Eyes ... and also ask that ugly guy in Kamelot how he scored Simone Simons of Epica.

yalith 2008-10-07 02:47:29 AM
You don't want to get TOO close to the action though. I'd rather be 15 or 20 feet back and NOT get crushed to the front railing. Besides, if you're too close, you can't see anything for all the gore getting sprayed in your face every time you open your eyes.

On the upside, I did get to see Paris Hilton dismembered and violated with her own limb. That was neat. :)
