She will give several pre-written speeches that are easy to read from cue cards and will answer no more questions (from the public or the press).

I'm sure they are patting Sarah on the head this morning - "good job, girl! You didn't fall off the stage and you didn't drool on yourself. YOU WIN!"

Nice touch, making her drag her infant son along for photo ops.

The thing I find most worrying about her is that if she does get elected and ends up being President, she will be ruthless in cleaning her political house. I expect nearly everyone in the cabinet and white house staff to be replaced quickly. I would expect her to replace more top level people in the federal government than any one ever has. I'm confident that George Jr knows his place and he knows he is just a figurehead but she is just as stupid but will be fully in charge and will get rid of the handlers as quickly as she can.

Yeah, they sound identical.

Did anyone else notice this little body language tidbit from last night:

Every time Palin got a big smile on her face and her neck muscles loosened up, you knew that what would follow was something obviously scripted from her rehearsal. You could almost hear her brain yelling, "Yaaaaaaaaaaaay...I know this one!"

But, every time the smile went away and neck muscles tightened up, she was speaking extemporaneously.

It was so obvious, I was making my wife laugh by calling it throughout the debate: "Here comes a zinger." "Get ready a a prepared talking point."

I'm not a fan of McCain; his inconsistencies and his gaffes are worrisome but at least he has experience and is a relatively smart guy.

Palin, on the other hand, is dangerous. She is an idiot. She is not George Bush. Bush, despite his inability to speak well, is not a true idiot. Sarah Palin is an idiot. Let me say that again: Sarah Palin is an idiot. She is vastly undereducated and unrepentant about it. Please do not let her into the White House. Our country has so many problems right now. For months I have thought "well, even if McCain wins, at least it's not as bad as W. But then the GOP outdoes itself and finds that they hadn't hit bottom yet. They grab this lunatic, prepare her like a child about to enter the spelling bee, and lower the bar yet again.

Bartleby the Scrivener 2008-10-03 10:56:23 AM
The Palin
With Deep Apologies to, and Deeper Admiration for, Mr. EA Poe

Once upon election dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and peculiar website of contemp'ry lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
`'Tis some pundit,' I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door -
Only this, and nothing more.'

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak September,
And each partisan rejoinder daily spit upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished for the end; O! vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow - sorrow for the lost Honour -
For the rare and radiant maiden the forefathers named Honour -
Nameless here for evermore.

And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each poll booth curtain
shilled me - filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating
`'Tis some registrar entreating entrance at my chamber door -
Some late registrar entreating entrance at my chamber door; -
This it is, and nothing more,'

Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer,
`Sir,' said I, `or Madam, truly your forgiveness I implore;
But the fact is I was balking, and so gently you came knocking,
And so faintly you came knocking, knocking at my chamber door,
That I scarce was sure I heard you' - here I opened wide the door; -
Darkness there, and nothing more.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams few kings had dared to dream before
But the silence was unbroken, and the darkness gave no hope then,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, `Honour!'
This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, `Honour!'
Merely this and nothing more.

Back into my chamber dimming, all sort of mumbo-jumbo spinning,
Soon again I heard a tapping clearly louder than before.
`Surely,' said I, `surely that is something at my window lattice;
Lead me past what color threat 'tis, and this mystery explore -
Let my nerves be still a moment and fresh-served history ignore; -
'Tis the wind and nothing more!'

Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped the state-ly Palin of the wintry land up north.
Not the least obeisance made she; not a minute stopped or stayed she;
But, with mien of pageant lady, waved a hand both back and forth,
Perched upon a bush of Texas just a-right my chamber door -
Preened, and sat, and nothing more.

Then this ivory bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the blazed and sharp decorum of the countenance she wore,
`Though thy crest be bunned and upswept, thou,' I said, `art sure no inept.
Svelte and lilting, sailing, Palin hailing from the hallo'd north -
Tell me what thy stand, thy platform is on the land's election shore!'
Quoth the Palin, `Nevermore.'

Much I marvelled this unlikely choice to hear discourse forthrightly,
Though her answer little meaning - little relevancy bore;
And we cannot help agreeing that no living human being
Ever yet was blessed with seeing make-up on a canine or -
Bird or beast beside the scuttled bush a-right his chamber door,
With such name as `Nevermore.'

But the Palin, sitting glowering on the vapid bush, spoke only
That one word, as if her fate in that one word she did secure.
Nothing further then she uttered - though her silence often stuttered -
Till I scarcely more than muttered `Other tails have wagged before -
Come October she will leave me, as nightmares deferred before.'
Then the bird said, `Nevermore.'

Startled at the stillness broken by reply so patly spoken,
`Doubtless,' said I, `what she utters is her only stock and store,
trained by some unhappy master whom preordained disaster
Followed fast and followed faster till her song one burden bore -
Till the purges of the hope that melancholy burden bore
Of "Never-nevermore."'

But the Palin 'gainst abiding all my sad soul into hiding,
Straight I wheeled a rubber rock in front of her and bush and door;
Then, as if on a ship a-sinking, I betook myself to clinging
to a floating fancy, thinking what this curious anchor for?
What this thin, unsteady, plastic stock so curious an anchor
Meant invoking `Nevermore.'

Thus I sat engaged and stressing, but no syllable expressing,
Any vow to whose glassed eyes now magnified a hollow core;
This and more I sat divining, with my head at least reclining
On the cushion's velvet lining that the lamp-light gloated o'er,
But whose velvet violet lining with the lamp-light gloating o'er,
We shall press, ah, nevermore!

Then, methought, the air grew denser, perfumed by an unseen sponsor,
Swung by Sarah fans on iceskates gliding on the frozen floor.
`Blech,' I cried, `thy God, thy better angels of our nature, have sent thee
Respite - respite and nepenthe from thy memories of Honour!
Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe, and forget this lost Honour!'
Quoth the Palin, `Nevermore.'

`Profit!' said I, `thing of evil! - profit still, if sword or nickel! -
Whether tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore,
Desolate yet all undaunted, on this great land disenchanted -
On this home by terror haunted - tell me truly, I implore -
Is there - is there a bomb in Baghdad? - tell me - tell me, I implore!'
Quoth the Palin, `Nevermore.'

`Profit!' said I, `thing of evil! - profit still, if sword or nickel!
By that flag that flies above us - by that oath we both perjure -
Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, whether McCain, Obama, Biden,
We shall resurrect the maiden whom the fathers named Honour -
Raise from death the breathless maiden, the forefathers named Honour?'
Quoth the Palin, `Nevermore.'

`Be that word our sign of parting, foe and friend!' I shrieked upstarting -
`Get thee back into the forest or to Juneau-ian shore!
Leave no soundbite as a token of that lie thy mouth hath spoken!
Leave my integrity unbroken! - quit the bush a-right my door!
Take thy moose from out thy noose, and take thy name from off my form!'
Quoth the Palin, `Nevermore.'

And the Palin, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the squalid bush of Texas far a-right my chamber door;
And her eyes have all the dreaming of a politician scheming,
And the spotlight o'er her streaming casts a shadow long and sure;
And my soul from out that shadow that's cemented on the floor
Shall be chiseled - nevermore!

Free Radical: She came off like a game show contestant to me last night.

That's precisely what the McCain campaign wanted.

I think the defining moment of the debate came when Biden nearly teared up when mentioning that he knows what it's like to be a single dad, and then Palin just went into this dismissive rant about being a maverick. After spending an hour claiming she's in touch with the people, she demonstrated that it was just a sham.

I don't say this to be a jerk, but the reason I dislike her is because she has no place running for the VP spot. What Obama doesn't have in experience he makes up for in common sense and getting the right people around him. Palin is just plain dumb, and nothing she did last night convinced me otherwise.

Obama can answer a question - and will answer plenty before the election. So will Biden.

Palin will not give another interview. McCain will trot her out for stump speeches and then hustle her off to her box.

Us "lefties" don't hate Palin (at least, most of us don't). We just recognize that she is what is WRONG with America and do not want her a heartbeat away from the Presidency (particularly since that heartbeat belongs to McCain, who I doubt would survive a term as President). You can keep Palin, the rest of America doesn't want her.
