"I am a party loyalist. I'll say whatever works toward promoting the party. Truth and reason have no bearing to how reality is portrayed. Palin is an excellent VP choice."

I have to admit, the performance of the "conservatives" right now has made me even more anxious to vote for McCain and get things moving faster.

It's not like the leadership of America has a bearing on people's lives, it should be treated as a sports event with lots of rooting for team. Yayy !!!!

MisterTweak 2008-10-03 09:36:00 AM
Would it just break their hearts to know that Giuliani was endorsed by the Liberal Party of New York?

I hesitate to think we really need another borrow-n-spend liberal in DC, but if you do, vote McCain, I guess.

Here's a great quote by keylock71 from another thread:

keylock71: It's like watching the retarded kid at the Special Olympics "vault" over that 2 ft foam bar without knocking it off it's mounting...sure, it's a great moment for the little guy and his family and supporters are going to cheer loudly, but c'mon...

Gunny Highway 2008-10-03 10:14:16 AM
It was funny so switch between MSNBC and FOX right after the debate. You could not get more polar opposite information about how the debate went. Not surprising just funny to see.

onecanshort [TotalFark] 2008-10-03 10:21:50 AM
What's that old saying, if you aim for the stars and fail you at least hit the moon? Something to that effect.

Well it's sort of like that for Palin but in the other direction; if you make your expectations low enough, pretty much anything you do can be declared a victory.

When that's your best strategy as a party, you've got some problems.

No surprise here. The republicans need to support her as much as they can because they know that this late in the game there's no other option. And they know that if they say it loud and long enough some people will start to believe it.

Hey, it worked for the Bush administration.

Well, that's the problem.

Biden HAD substance. He actually backed up his responses and directly answered questions. Palin kept repeating the same three or four talking points again and again ad nauseum.

ummmmm
ignoring the spin from the nuts on both sides
she did NOT lose the debate
she did NOT wreck the train (as fun as that would have been)
she did NOT totally suck

mccain/palin got what they wanted/needed

call it a tie ...
neither side will get a crazy bump from this

These things are true. But if you were to rank her somewhere between "totally sucked" and "one of the very best debate performances you've ever seen", which would be more accurate?

All Palin did was deliver pre-memorized talking points. She didn't even answer the questions, nor deliver anything that would indicate she's qualified to be president.

Biden was responsive to the questions. And there's no doubt that even though he's a bit wordy, he's qualified to be president.

When the economy is tanking and national leadership has become scarce, I'd say the best way to distinguish yourself is to show a serious break from reality.

I woke up with a sore throat from yelling at the tv.

She never answers anything and it disgusted me that she actually winked at the camera.

I do NOT want a "folksy" candidate to potentially occupy the whitehouse. You betcha? Darn right? Say it ain't so Joe? Ya? Gonna? Maverick team? and the list goes on and on.

At one point my girlfriend almost punched the tv.

/so disgusted

That's because people came in with the notion that Palin was a dumbfark. She may have proved she's not a complete dumbfark, but she would have had to sounded like Stephen Hawking to win the debate in people's eyes.

One of the most interesting things about watching and listening to conservative pundits when they gush about Palin - you can easily tell they don't believe a goddamn word they're saying.

What I took from the debate was

Biden: Damn, this guy is smart as a whip. He knows the game, he's been playing it for a long time. Experience argument over.

Palin: Trying to hit the "average joe" tone, A lack of actual understanding of the issues, good at talking points.

mediocrity. That's what I look for in someone running for public office.

highbrow45 2008-10-03 11:54:42 AM
I hated that she kept calling herself a maverick and her and McCain as a maverick team. I can let it go when someone else calls them that but it just sounds dumb when they refer to themselves as mavericks. How can you be a maverick and a member of a political party at the same time?

SacriliciousBeerSwiller: For all the talk of Palin doing well, the online polls all seem to strongly dispute it. Even the Fox News poll has Biden by a big margin.

Republicans think she "did well" because she "exceeded expectations." The problem is, her "expectations" were hovering somewhere around "Miss Teen South Carolina."

Republicans really have no clue how stupid they look reciting the "she exceeded expectations" talking point. They look almost as stupid as Palin reciting pre-memorized Republican talking points, without even being responsive to the questions asked.

Why would anyone force themselves to watch two worthless hacks have a Palin love-fest? You must have stronger stomachs than I do.

Peter von Nostrand 2008-10-03 11:55:36 AM
PALIN: I'm still on the tax thing because I want to correct you on that again. And I want to let you know what I did as a mayor and as a governor. And I may not answer the questions that either the moderator or you want to hear, but I'm going to talk straight to the American people and let them know my track record also.

It's not hard to be the clear victor when you are having an imaginary debate.

In other words, by reciting memorized talking points, Palin rose to the level of mediocrity.

Biden, by contrast, confirmed that he was ready to be president on day one. That's okay, because we already knew that.

she did NOT lose the debate

But in your first sentence, you instructed us to ignore you.

To "win" a debate, you'd have to occasionally answer some of the questions put before you. Admittedly, she didn't figuratively burst into flames like so many Republicans feared she would, (as she has in every direct interview she's had since being nominated) but only an idiot or a Republican (kinda the same thing these days) could possibly claim that she "didn't lose".
