Who hasn't? The big neon sign out front saying Dead Hooker Storage really seems to do the trick.

Are you seriously trying to imply that Biden's few dodges were in any way equivalent to Palin's? That they looked even remotely equal on that stage?

Yes, Palin looked better than I thought she would, in that she was able to string together somewhat coherent sentences and didn't sound like a complete moron who'd spent the last 30 years under an icy rock. But by no means did she even approach any sort of marker that could be used in any way to suggest in even the most back-handed manner anything approaching the possibility that she might have not been utterly crushed in every exchange.

how can you say that? biden gave descriptive answers to almost all of the questions. i know i learned a bit about their platform.

and while palin answered a few, she bobbed & weaved more than a sorority slut! though i do give her credit for being able to speak halfway decently.

Pocket Ninja: Are you seriously trying to imply that Biden's few dodges were in any way equivalent to Palin's?

No, I am saying that rarely did either of their answers have anything to do with the question asked. I wish they would have a debate where the moderator had enough balls to call them out on that. It started with the first question...

"was this the worst of Washington or the best of Washington that we saw play out?"

Biden: blah blah blah, failed economic policies, and what he wishes the rescue plan was. Nothing about what it actually is, what the good and bad points are, and whether he thinks it is a good decision or a bad one.

Palin: blah blah blah, soccer mom, what she wishes the rescue plan was. McCain was trying to prop up the entire country all by himself while everyone else was trying to kick it over. Nothing about what it actually is, the good and bad points, or whether it was a good or bad decision.

And it went on and on like that.

Because I watched most of it, and read the transcript this morning.

EatHam: And it went on and on like that.

It went on and on like that for Palin, every time. And occasionally for Biden. But to suggest that he didn't give detailed, on-topic answers at least half as often as he didn't is deliberately disingenuous.

Pocket Ninja: But to suggest that he didn't give detailed, on-topic answers at least half as often as he didn't is deliberately disingenuous.

Not at all. He gave very detailed answers to questions that were not asked. It was ludicrous. And neither of their rebuttals had farkall to do with the other person's point, with the exception of the occasional "nuh-uh".

BullsHitter [TotalFark] 2008-10-03 08:26:01 AM
I watched about half of it (was all I could stand), and I thought Biden stayed much more on topic and presented specific voting records and strategies whereas Palin simply repeated " blah blah mavrick blah blah change". It struck me as hypocritical that the right had been blasting Obama for idealism and talk of change without giving substance... until they added Palin to the ticket. Now that's all she seems capable of saying.

Occam's Chainsaw [TotalFark] 2008-10-03 08:28:40 AM
I'm with EatHam on this one. Biden did a better job of staying on topic, but he still tended toward answering the question he wanted to be asked.

Here is a transcript of the debate. Everyone has a built-in bias, myself included, but seriously, the questions were mostly bad, the answers were at a maximum 50% on topic, and the rebuttals were worse. Seriously, what kind of debate moderator asks a question that looks for a one-word answer? Give me a break.

I don't see how you can read what I wrote and come up with the conclusion that I believe that both were exactly the same with respect to how they answered. Here is what I am saying, and this is all that I am saying: That debate was dumb. Neither candidate answered the questions asked. The questions themselves were, in many cases dumb. It was a horrible debate, if you can even call it that.

Here is what I am not saying: 100% of the questions were answered off-topic, Biden was exactly equivalent to Palin in his responses, and Palin looked exactly the same as Biden.

Hope that helps clear things up.

keylock71 2008-10-03 08:44:19 AM
I don't know...I think Biden answered the questions that were asked quit adeptly, in general.

Palin avoided the questions and tried to keep her stream of folksy bullshiat talking points flowing. She even admitted she was doing that early on with the "I might not answer the question the way the moderator or you want me to, but I'm going to address the American people directly" bullshiat.

She did much better than most people were expecting, but there was no substance. She really did look like a sports anchor reading from a script.

Like I said in the other thread, it's like watching the retarded kid at the Special Olympics "vault" over that 2 ft foam bar without knocking it off it's mounting...sure, it's a great moment for the little guy and his family and supporters are going to cheer loudly, but c'mon...

I like when she flat out said, "I'm not going to answer the questions in the way the Senator or the Moderator may like"

At least we knew from the get go she wasn't going to answer shiat.

Can we please get a moderator to you know, moderate? If you're asked about the bailout plan and stutter your way to energy, you get the buzzer.

THIS. The debates thus far are a goddamn farce - it'd be easier to just ask them each in turn, "So, got anything to say? You have 45 minutes" - you'd get the exact same content. The SAME words, in the SAME order.

I was disappointed with the debate. I was really hoping for Barbie to have a meltdown of epic proportions, but honestly she did a reasonable job.

Depending on where you go to find out, your guy/gal won the debate bigtime. No one is saying...oh look it was a close debate, but...

Its all "My guy" kicked ass. Or "My gal" was awesome.

The % polls show that too.

Drudge 70% to 28%
CNN 36% to 51%

I'm sure there are other polls, but I imagine they are polarized too.

CrankMyBlueSax: I was disappointed with the debate. I was really hoping for Barbie to have a meltdown of epic proportions, but honestly she did a reasonable job.

Sad that so many people are saying she did well, or reasonable, or held her own, or whatever because she didn't have a complete meltdown. She dodged questions, outright refused to answer some, spewed memorized talking points and slogans, and people are praising her. I guess Operation Lower the Expectations was a success. Now merely going 90 minutes without making a complete and utter embarrassment of yourself is enough to be VP or even POTUS.

Pocket Ninja: Are you seriously trying to imply that Biden's few dodges were in any way equivalent to Palin's? That they looked even remotely equal on that stage?

Imply that Biden's dodges were like Palin's? No, dodges like those need to be taken in context with the current energy problems in the United States. Energy rich states, like Alaska, are only asking to help make us self-sufficient so that we don't need to look to unstable regions and regimes like those in the Middle East and Central America. I have long been a proponent of improved alternative energy techniques. In the long run, this will help us all read and respond on TotalFark in a responsible and ultimately world-saving way for now and forever (well, my gifted month of TF runs out today actually).

Sarah Palin kicked ass.
She remembered her planned talking points well. She didn't ramble incoherently.
She showed that she's a Maverick by coming right out and saying she wasn't going to answer the questions asked but instead was going to say what she wanted and speak directly to the American people.
She got in enough cute and folksy to give orgasms to Joe Six-pack and his wife the hockey/soccer mom. She kept up the condescending, Joe Biden is inferior to me smirk throughout the entire debate.

If you think Joe Biden won because he knew the most facts, you don't know much about the average American's intellect.

The goal of Sarah Palin's style of debating wasn't to win over the latte drinking elitists, it was to win the admiration of the ignorant unwashed masses who sat around watching the debate in their underwear, eating Cheetos and drinking beer.

Those arugula eating educated elitists are never going to vote for her because they can see through her bullshiat. It serves no purpose for her to even attempt to sway their vote.
