You betcha, that's the way a Joe Sixpack shoots straight from the hip, the maverick way of handling an insider like Joe.

Bless her heart.

Yeah, that about covers it. Needs something about "energy," though.

Was that funny? You betcha!

When she popped out the "Oh Joe, say it ain't so." line for some reason my brain substituted the line from the piece of crap movie AI:

"gigolo joe whaddya know?"

I really thought that was what she had said, but then I was only half listening at the time.

Did anyone else find that voice as annoying as I did? As bad as nails scraping across a chalkboard but in a different way

We need the "did someone get told" flow chart.

A hellish mix of Frances McDormand, from "Fargo" and Lily Tomlin as Ernestine the Telephone Operator: "One ringy-dingy, two ringy-dingy... *snort*..."

I think the chart is wrong. Didn't the McCain campaign change the debate structure to make the time to answer only 60 seconds so it wouldn't be so difficult for Sarah?

oldernell [TotalFark] 2008-10-03 09:29:08 AM
By one definition, a maverick is a motherless calf. The females usually wind up as breeding stock(barefoot & pregnant) and the males are rendered impotent. Hmmm, I guess they are mavericks.

Bufu [TotalFark] 2008-10-03 09:33:10 AM
Suck it, libs, she connected with America and more than held her own against Biden.

If Mac loses (and he probably will), it's not her fault.

mafromhell [TotalFark] 2008-10-03 09:36:25 AM
Anyone else notice that this flow chart doesn't "flow"? Both "Yes!" and "No." flow into dead-ends and don't ever go anywhere near the "answers" in the middle...

/nevermind it's Palin

To paraphrase Rob Riggle from The Daily Show: "Americans want a leader who is just like them...or worse."

FTFY. And yes, she did hold her own.

Bufu: If Mac loses (and he probably will), it's not her fault.

Agreed on both counts.

It's not her fault, in that he's the moran who chose her. Of course she was going to say yes. And she's doing the best she can, which is similar to a fish left alone in the desert doing the best it can to survive on air.

But the bottom line is that Sarah Palin is a big, big reason why droves of independent voters...and I mean real independent voters, not the Fark variety...who might have seriously considered McCain at one point can't look at him without wincing now.

Frankly, with expectations as low as they were, anything short of pooping on the stage like a nervous dog at Westminster would have been considered a win for Palin.

Because average America is what is needed for great leaders. Moran.

I know I did. The only thing that helped me get through it was the drinking game we were playing. After a case of beer, her voice made me laugh.

/really looking forward to SNL this week.

True, it's his fault for selecting her.

The winking thing drove me nuts. It wasn't cute and it wasn't clever. She's getting me closer and closer to voting for Obama.

Bufu: Suck it, libs, she connected with America and more than held her own against Biden.

If by "held her own" you mean answered the questions she was wanted to instead of the one's she asked, then you're right (and the moderator let her get away with it).

She didn't stumble the way she did in the interviews, but that's because Gibson and Couric actually repeated the question until she "answered" it - Ifill let Palin ramble on about whatever she wanted, and by golly she sure did ramble there didn't she - you betcha!!

Bufu: Suck it, libs, she connected with America

Actually, you're way off here. Its not Libs that are up in arms as much as its people with a respect for intelligence. The vast majority of criticism has nothing to do with her politics. It has nothing to do with her *stance* on gay rights, abortion, small government, taxes, and the like.

If she were a Democrat, the same people would be saying the same thing today.

She connected with America? Oprah connects with America! Would you not be scared shiatless if Oprah were in the running for VP? How about Paris Hilton? Rosie O'Donnell? That's the level we're talking about here. It scares right-leaning AND left-leaning people (who can think) alike.

Yes, yes they have. But typically they've been qualified for the pick and are turning it down with those qualifications in mind. Here's a case where a person who otherwise would never have even gotten out of her swimming pool was offered the ocean and jumped at the chance.

No, she didn't. Every poll indicates that:

1) The public regards Biden as smarter than Palin.

2) The public believes Biden won the debate.

3) More independents are moving to Obama as a result of the debate than the other way.

Biden won this debate. All Palin did by reciting memorized talking points without even answering the questions was prove she's not as dumb as Miss Teen South Carolina.

We've got a link to an article showing a flowchart that was copied from a fark debate thread. And thus the circle of internets is complete.

And I see this happening.
McCain: Would like to be VP?
Palin: Oh gosh, yes! How exciting!! Look, I have to go get my kids from a Soccer game, but let me get back to you, ok? **wink**

Merry Sunshine 2008-10-03 12:07:45 PM
Oh, that is epic win. Except the word "ENERGY!!" should be plastered across the whole thing.

Dumbass tag for Palin or the Chart...?

I guess it doesn't matter since they are kind of one in the same, eh?

Despite Captain_Heroic44's good points, I think that she did in fact win the debate. Simply because she was able to come off, GW style, as an "outsider," a "straight-talker," and an "oh gosh golly gee" gidget and in contrast Biden looked like a polished sleezebag politician (though he is NOT).

She also got to lob a lot of unreciprocated torpedos at the Obama ship.

I think I mostly agree with you, except she only connected with the republican base. Independents (the group that really matters right now) probably saw through most of her BS and realized she was just reciting memorized talking points. I don't think Biden really changed many minds either. Overall, the debate wasn't a game changer at all.

I thought Biden kicked ass, but I know that I'm biased. You see what you want to see. The only thing that would have shook things up would have been a complete meltdown (on either side).

Ragin' Asian 2008-10-03 12:11:43 PM
The most tragic thing about this election cycle is that Tim Russert never got to interview Palin. That would have been epic.

She won the debate if there was a curve; which on the Right side of the ticket there was.

It was said perfectly last night, Palin is a polarizer. Those who liked her before will like her more, those that did not like her before will like her less.

Oh, and EVERY poll says Biden won.

bikerific 2008-10-03 12:12:56 PM
Biden hit her back on the maverick thing, but I'd have like to have seen him hit harder. Here's the sound bite I'd like to see them replyying.

"Just because you keep repeating the word maverick doesn't make it true."
