I think the working title was "Bad Acid Trip", but Walmart refused to carry it.

/Totally true

It's gonna be really lame, but I'll buy it because I've been a fan since 1988.

/Oh My Gawd!!! FTW

BONUS: It has Steve, the original dude from Blue's Clues.

It's also in a few theaters, which seems like it'd be a much more interesting experience than seeing watching it on DVD.

I dunno, i saw them at a festival once, and they had the big film playing in the background and it was all good until, blam, some dude gets his head blown off. (in the film, that is) still, kinda harshed my mellow.

They're showing the film near me and I plan on seeing it. I've been waiting for this for years. Just hope the music is better than their last disappointment album

I really love the Flaming Lips... but that movie really does look god-awful. Then again, everything they did up till The Soft Bulletin was pretty bad, so maybe this is just the beginning of a new career for them.

It would be pretty neat to see them perfect their style in film form the same say they perfected their whole thing with The Soft Bulletin.

Your parenthetical comment...it made me larf.

It's in Madison so I'm there. I have a feeling it's going to be way uneven since it took so long to film, but it'll still be a good time.

It was the influence of Steven Drozd that made the Lips brilliant. 'Clouds Taste Metallic' and 'Transmissions from the Satellite Heart' are great albums, both came before the Soft Bulletin. And let's not forget Zaireeka. That being said, the Soft Bulletin is a sonic orgasm that everyone should hear before they die.

I gave 'At War With the Mystics' a spin the other day for the first time in ages, and I have to say, it's a lot better than it got credit for. That's what happens when you release a 'good' album after two masterpieces though, huh.

eh, it's okay. Typical "We used strings, now we're 'mature'" album. If you can sync it up, though, Zaireeka's great, as is Yoshimi. Not really familiar with anything pre-Transmissions, though.

I'm sorry, children, but the very earliest Lips albums in the '80s were total farking dynamite. 180 degrees different from what they do now, sure, but still -- come on, man. Hear It Is and Oh My Gawd! FTW!!!

Best album = In A Priest Driven Ambulance.

/then Clouds

My prediction: in one way or another, this movie will somehow manage to be awesome.

It is rated SUG (super ultra go)

the 5.1 mix of the Yoshimi album under the right conditions is a life changer

They were prescreening this at Lollapalooza this year, but it was after the headliners had finished and train schedules prevented us from kneeling at the alter of Wayne. No matter the cheez level, this movie will be incredible.

no way! i maintain that 'clouds taste metallic' is one of the rare examples of a perfect album.

Then I have succeeded here. True story though.
Since then I have always been "fark them" because that shiate was actually really wierd. And i'm a pretty stable guy. Bus some of the girls i was with were really freaked out for a while. Put a little damper on the evening.

but i've heard enough good things about their music that i'm sure i'll eventually come around and check some of it out.

(checks profile)
wow, kinda lot in common. some of the music. and esp. berner-oberland. passed through there and interlacken(sp?) once - possibly the most beautiful place i have ever been.

Everything the Lips do is great and I'll cockpunch anyone who says otherwise.

Mobutu 2008-10-03 04:02:32 PM
It actually isn't lame, it is the farking weirdest film I've ever seen though

Vaginas for heads, babies being trampled by marching bands, intensely loud...

Saw it at Wakarusa in their travelling "Lips Movie Tent" and it was... weird. It did actually have a point, and made you think, and kind of ties together a lot of the messages in their songs since Soft Bulletin. Has some really great characters, and the complete lack of acting talent only makes the movie better.

The last album was rushed out to bring in the money to finally finish the movie.
