I don't care what all of you haters think, I think Sting is a marvelous performer.

Gah. If you're going to post Stink videos, at least make it something listenable (aka: Dream of the Blue Turtles or earlier).

sting, along with the component members of genesis and post-unplugged eric crapton, have made some of the most bland, god-awful boring music over the past 30 years.

please go away

Man. I love the Anoushka Shankar/Karsh Kale song "Sea Dreamer" with Sting singing.. It's almost as hot as Chicane's obsession with Bryan Adams!

Agreed. And yet...the first two Police albums, most Genesis albums released during the 70s, and at least a couple of Clapton discs (like 461 O.B.) are truly excellent. So, in my opinion, they've earned the right to earn Large Coin by selling dross to the rubes.

Agreed. And although The Police stuff was good, I'd take his solo albums over his band stuff any day.

To add, DSSCTM '86 kicks the ever-livin' SH*T out of the '80 version. I'm so sick of this pretentious "the earlier stuff was better" b.s. Don't deny it - you like the updated version, too. To those youngin's who really don't know Sting, find some headphones and an hour alone and listen to The Soul Cages. It's depressing but it's a masterpiece.

God, this is depressing. Sting is better than The Police in the same way that Roger Waters is better than Pink Floyd or Lennon is better than the Beatles.

His high-water mark post-Police was Dune.

Sting with Police = musically adept and cool.

Sting solo = musically adept and not so cool really.

Sting with reunion Police = still musically adept but not cool at all.

Staind sounds like Nickelback, who sounds like Theory of a Deadman, who sounds like fark all the other bands out there.

The music industry is pumping out so many fark awful bands nowadays I'm forced to listen to old punk albums and NPR.

This +1. Soul Cages is a terrific album. Nothing Like the Sun is also quite good.

I think that "Zenyatta Mondatta" is probably one of The Police's very best albums.... or "THE" best Police album... [definately one of the very best pop albums of the 80's i think]
[ i haven't heard their second album tho]

I have Sting's first two solo albums.... they're pretty good i guess.... a few great songs, some good ones, and some fair/bad ones....

1. Nothing Like the Sun is my favorite solo Sting album. I am not a fan of most of what came later.
2. The Police were much more phenomenal than solo Sting.
3. Sting plays incredibly well, sings wonderfully, and genuinely seems to enjoy performing. He is a gifted writer, although I am not a fan of the later solo stuff.
4. Having seen Sting perform live in the 80's and then again this summer, I must say that although he might be egotistical and kind of man-whorish, sweet Christ if given the opportunity I would so hit it. HOT.
