You call it sellout, they call it making shiat loads of money. Guess it's all in the perception.

Mr. Coffee Nerves [TotalFark] 2008-09-30 11:58:03 AM
It will be like the "Wal-Mart Exclusive" Eagles album -- small shop owners will buy 20 from Wallyworld, mark 'em up a buck a copy, then resell.

albo [TotalFark] 2008-09-30 12:06:18 PM
sellout?

the band's been around for 35 years. so, (1) who cares about these geezers, and (2) let them make the money and buy gold-plated wheelchairs and blinged-out hearing aids

Mugato [TotalFark] 2008-09-30 12:11:15 PM
Wal*Mart customers don't need an elitist 4th chord in their music. Three chord rock...the Holy Trinity...that'll do.

Mr. Coffee Nerves [TotalFark] 2008-09-30 12:31:56 PM
One of the redlighted headlines (not mine, I swear) suggested Wal-Mart may have editorial input on the song titles, i.e. "Highway to Heck."

They should re-do the whole catalog, then.

Hell is Certainly a Bad Place to Be
For Those About to Pray (We Salute You)
Back in Caucasian
Big Purity Balls
Wholesome Deeds (Done Free and Charitably)
Jesus Walks
Girl's Got Rhythm (But Never Dances in Public)
If You Want Blood (Jesus Spilled it For You)
Let There Be Christian Rock
Rock and Roll Played by Creed Ain't Noise Pollution
Whole Lotta Mary, Mother of Jesus

I have the capacity to resist this. Potential.

Good for them. They still want to rock, and still have a huge fan base.

Nothing like earning a good living doing something you love.

The "Highway to Heck" was mine. I thought sure it would go green. Oh well. I liked this headline less.

As much as hate Wal-Mart and these exclusive deals, it's hard to knock AC/DC....

1. They've been around for 35 years
2. They play cock rock and don't pretend to do anything but
3. Their latest tour is completely sold out regardless of the face that they haven't had a hit single in 15 years or so.

Hard to mess with a successful formula.
It's called marketing.

Money Talks.

It was a good album.

The bigger issue is why the hell does this cost 40 dollars. It is only 18 tracks.

defjoe 2008-09-30 03:51:15 PM
I'm buying it... no farking question.

AC/DC is the shiat and can destroy any recent band.

just found out they are playing Tampa the friggin day I fly to Boston for Christmas. Damn it all!

There's a fourth chord?

It's a video game, not a CD.

I think they need to cover "Jesus take the wheeeheeeel".

I am aware, but downloadable songs for Rock Band, they cost 2 bucks each. If you buy a pack of songs, for example the Red Hot Chili Peppers album that came out today, you get a break on pricing. 16 tracks for 20 dollars.

I just don't see the need for a retail release for a song pack when they have been killing it with the DLC.

amoricanCrowe 2008-09-30 04:32:15 PM
When discussing the Stones mantle of greatest rock band of all time, Keith Richards made this astute observation when the mention of AC/DC as true heirs to the throne:

"They only play one song, but nobody plays that song better."

/IIRC

They sold out two shows at the Garden in no time flat. At $90 a pop.

I saw AC/DC on the Stiff Upper Lip tour. Without a doubt it was the best concert I ever saw. And I've been to quite a few shows.

DVD will be available exclusively at Wal-Mart.

I told ya we were...HARD-CORE!!!!

InmanRoshi 2008-09-30 05:57:35 PM
I imagine one of the key motivations behind making a DVD is that you want people to ... you know ... buy it. So AC/DC signed a contract where people go to buy stuff. And ... what's the problem again?

Jerzefornian 2008-09-30 06:12:11 PM
I have nothing against AC/DC, but I'm not happy they canceled Fungus 53 on XM

AC/DC rocks, they may sell out to Wally World but they didn't sell out with their music.

davynelson 2008-09-30 08:21:06 PM
sell out?

a band that hasn't an inventive, creative or passionate bone in their collective body?

selling out assumes they had integrity in the first place,
and AC/DC are the kings of poseur rock from the very beginning.

/the butt of jokes in the 70's

Right on, submitter! I was cheering for these underground heroes to remain shrouded in obscurity forever where only those in the know could enjoy their music without all that mass appeal!

I got excited to find out AC/DC was coming to my town, announced today on the web. Then I saw that prices were going to be $90 or more plus ticketrapemaster $12+. Guess it will be a go show without me.
