(Rolling Stone) Followup Robert Plant would like to trample under foot what is and what shall never be: Led Zeppelin will have to ramble on without him. There was communication breakdown somewhere, you were all dazed and confused, those dancing days are over   (rollingstone.com) divider line 31

Please for the love of all that is holy, do not do a reunion. Let us remember you guys like you were when we were all young.

Now, imagine this headline, read in Jim Morrisson's voice.

It doesn't sound right in Jim Morrisson's voice, there aren't any strained rhymes in it.

Two words.

Dave Grohl.

Two more words.

Jack White.

Either one would make a great record with this band.

He's out doing some Zeppelin songs right now on his tour with Alison Kraus and she's one hell of a lot cuter than anybody in his old band.www.cmt.com

Sorry. I just thought it was a really flattering picture of Alison Kraus.

Robert Plant to Van Halen.
David Lee Roth to Led Zeppelin.
Gun to temple.

I'm guessing the mysterious American is Chris Robinson. He did pretty good the last time he played with Page.

THIS could be interesting. And two drummers would be a great twist.

he can't sing like he used to so he's pussying out.

As a huge Black Crowes fan, I don't think Chris has the voice to do it anymore. At the moment he sounds real good when singing at a low level over acoustic stuff, but his voice breaks up a lot when singing loud, high notes, which the Zep stuff calls for a lot of. The Crowes' last live electric album, Freak 'N' Roll, has some pretty cringe-inducing Chris vocal moments, and his voice hasn't gotten any better since.

uh again, I was surprised he WAS going to do it.

While I don't object to older musicians going for it.
Led Zep's tunes are a little more difficult and intense vocally.
He's likely not able to do it at that level anymore on a tour basis.

Maybe for a few songs for memory-sake, but not full-blown concerts.
He's probably right to just "call it a day".

Let the young one do it, it would still be fun to watch.

Eufah Kennidiets: They were a mediocre live band in their heyday. Why would anyone think they are better now?

Because its much easier to play over backing tracks now.

BiscuitsForSmut 2008-09-30 11:06:46 AM
Even if it sucks, he should at least do a small Zep tour to appease all of the rabid fans. Without all of those fans buying countless rehash of compilations, live albums and remastered crap he wouldnt have that pile of money he comfortably rests on at night.

That being said, I met him at a Knicks game this past season and pretty much crapped my pants. As soon as I got near him I lost my train of thought completely. Really nice guy though and seemed surprised a guy in his mid 20's would be crapping a brick because he's standing next to Robert Plant.

Holy crap, he sounds like Plant from those 1969 American tour bootlegs. Page + JPJ + sub-Bonham might actually be more fun to watch with Robinson, since he seems to actually enjoy singing these songs.

Jimmy Page's sloppiness did NOT affect the other three.
It certainly affected one/fourth the overall live sound but the other guys were always pretty sharp.

Hell,Page was sloppy in the studio.

I saw too many headlines like that on notebooks belonging to the detention crowd when I was in high school, except they usually referenced Motley Crue, RATT, or Poison.

/ties onion to belt and gets back to work

Veruca Salt 2008-09-30 04:36:09 PM
nah

I mean, I love Zeppelin, but I wouldn't want to see them now

it's different when a band never stopped, like the Rolling Stones...even if you hate the fact that they kept on going, you saw them get old while on stage and releasing records, and they kind of "morphed" along with the times

to bring LZ back to tour/record now, after SO many years of not seeing/hearing them...that would be just nasty

that's why I liked the fact that Pink Floyd never really re-united...just do a reunion concert, or a few of them, and let the past be past

SU 2008-09-30 04:54:36 PM
I first read the name as Robert Smith and couldn't for the life of me figure out what The Cure had to do with Led Zeppelin lyrics.

Try listening to them without beer. Chris Robinson is awful - doesn't approach Bob Dylan (let alone Robert Plant).

A voice I liked in the 1980s - and might be a good, twisted fit if he's still any good - was Billy Squire. Unique and dynamic, but he too may be old and busted by now.

It'd be sorta wild to have Daltrey in there, but I'm sure he'd politely decline unless new material was involved.

Coverdale? NO.

i guess an unknown has the best shot, really, of replacing Plant.
