It's REALLY hard to have sympathy for someone who has brought it all on themselves.

If you are flying over a jungle and your plane crashes and you have to go through hell and back to get out of the jungle. Sympathy is warranted.
If you decide to blow your riches and talent on a life goal of insobriety, not so much sympathy.
Why don't they just go trainspotting on her ass?
