That's farked up.

"Obsession" is a propaganda piece that's going to sir up redneck America just like the "Protocols" stirred up gullible Germans.

/yes, I went there

WTF?!

A Dark Evil Omen 2008-09-28 09:27:11 PM
And I'm sure the full fury of America's anti-terrorism machine will be brought to bear against the animals that did this, right?

Right?

I haven't seen it... I got it in the mail and it's been sitting in the junk mail pile for about 2 weeks

Propaganda? yeah maybe, have you ever seen any Televison programs from the 'region'. Over Hyped yeah, But dammit there is some truth there.

I'd say there are currently more radical muslims than there are christians... in that when was the last time a baptist blew up a catholic church...?

HowlingFrog [TotalFark] 2008-09-28 09:32:52 PM
It's kind of interesting to see who was behind this piece of 9/11-legitimized hatred. (pops)

I have read reviews and such on Obsession. Have traveled where even prior to 2001 you needed a passport. Ugly Americans do exist. They are the rich who can afford to travel. nonsensical at this point due to the Makers Mark.

Disgusting. That's about all I have to say.

Way to go, America.

I tried to watch Jesus Camp lastnight and couldn't get through the first 15 minutes. It disgusted me so much. Might give it another try later in the week when I'm in a better mood.

FTFA: a "chemical irritant" was sprayed through a window of the Islamic Society of Greater Dayton

So, was it, like, RAID, or was it tear gas or Sarin? I am willing to get outraged, but not until I know what chemical was sprayed, and by whom.

Hobodeluxe [TotalFark] 2008-09-28 09:36:04 PM
these people need to be outed and mocked in public. the newspapers that distributed them should be held to account for hate speech and inciting criminal behavior. the mainstream media needs to be all over this.

Sure. Does that mean that we have to stoop to their level of twisting truths (and fabricating it when necessary) to spread fear and hatred? I thought we were "enlightened"? I mean, except the FOX News viewers.

ok just now kinda skimmed the article on KOS.... minor KITB for me. shiatty.

Most recent update. They currently don't know. Evidently it was serious enough that people have been hospitalized and pepper spray was suspected.

To anybody hearing about this for the first time, you can bittorrent it, or watch part one (of 10) on gootube here (new window).

Do it. It's a phenomenal piece of work. It will make you very, very sad and very sick at points, but it's absolutely fascinating.

If it does turn out that this attack against young children was due to the distribution of the "Obsession" DVD, then there should be a smackdown on all those responsible. The creators & distributors of the DVD, right on down the line.

However, knowing who is responsible for the DVD in the first place, zero will happen to them & they'll get off scot free.

And the American Taliban rears it's ugly head once again. Shameful. Every preacher from every faith in that county should be up in arms about this.

This is horrifying beyond belief. Why the fark isn't this front page news? I sometimes leave my little ones in the kid room at the synagogue during services. The thought of someone attacking them in there is mind-blowing. I'd love to get my hands on the assholes who did this.

does it really matter? The room was full of children and babies, regardless of what the agent was there was a great chance for great injury if the mothers had gone into a blind stampeding panic as has happened in much more crowded areas where something happens. I have been gassed before, albeit willingly and let me tell you that there is still some panic that is instilled within you when you know that it's coming, I can only imagine that it's far worse when you don't know what just happened, what was sprayed and when your children are in potential danger.

clifton [TotalFark] 2008-09-28 09:50:19 PM
that's what the authors of the DVD are hoping for: a full out holy war.

I think they would agree that this is a mission accomplished.

That's a tricky line to navigate...did the video itself incite people to violence? Can we prove it? If so, then a case could be brought against them, but I am very wary of the free speech (as idiotic and hateful as it is) complications here.

It is the same argument used against video games. Did paying Grand Theft Auto incite little Jimmy to bring a handgun to school? Perhaps, but there was some serious farked up shiat going on long before the game...it was just the tipping point. I suspect the same is true with these assholes.

Punishing those that made the DVD will not change this. It will just feed into the false persecution complex these cowards whine about.

when was the last time protestants committed atrocities against that catholic? I'm sure the Irish have something to say about this....

From what I could get out of that rambling blog post, it seems someone pepper sprayed a bunch of children, and John McCain is somehow responsible. Am I reading that right?

You need to watch it to understand the extent of delusion that some people fall prey to.

I am not a religious person myself, but if I ever chose to seek guidance through belief, I have little doubt I would look first to the Jewish faith. The capacity for understanding and care and empathy of their fellow man from those I have met who follow the faith is boundless. You are a perfect example.

I did a lot of volunteer work for Farm Aid, and there was a busload of NY jews who descended to help us, in black dresses and heels. I doubt any one of them had even been on a farm. They didn't care...they saw people who needed help and joined in the fight, and that impressed the hell out of me.

You sound like Jack Thompson. People can spew off stupid shiat (or play violent video games) all they want, but when they hurt others, they should be punished appropriately. The guys who did this are utter assholes and the guys who made Obsession are likely the same, but one assaulted a roomful of kids and one made a movie. Big farking difference.

And that article was full of fail. Kos posters can't just give us the story, they have to post lots of inflammatory partisan garbage and finger-pointing when they do.

mandingueiro 2008-09-28 09:58:04 PM
When I read the farkin article, the writer struck me as extremely biased and at first impression one of those leftist propagandists. Although i have no knowledge of the distributors of "Obsession", if they DO align themselves with the McCain candidacy, it is his responsibility as conscientious human being to denounce these horrendous actions and distance himself from such a group. yet somehow "bomb bomb Iran" comes to mind.

Some of my in-laws are Lutheran, and I went to a Lutheran college, as well. Speaking as a non-Christian of any denomination, the Lutherans are a fine group and Lutheran World Relief is an organization everyone should support and feel good about doing so.

Did some good work for Habitat for Humanity with a Lutheran church when I was in Connecticut. I can't speak for all of them, but that crop was damn handy with a hammer and very willing to give up every Saturday to swing them :)

Well, to be fair, when this blog poster (and Submitter) heard the news, his first impression was, "This is related to politics, and is most certainly the fault of the candidate whom I do not support."

I don't want to seem insensitive here, but there is a difference between a gardener spraying RAID on a couple of bugs, with the spray happening to drift through an open window, or even a hate-filled moran spraying bug spray, and some really serious chemical irritant. People panic and stampede in all kinds of situations, not always the result of hate crimes.

Mainly, I am questioning the cause-and-effect of this DVD hitting Ohio and this "crime." TFA seemed to take the connection as a done deal, which seems non-obvious to me.

Of course, I could be wrong, and I am still perfectly willing to be outraged.

I wasn't harping on it. But I am wary of inflammatory rhetoric. As a veteran, I have become very attune to the untruths that the extreme left likes to perpetuate. Yet, I am just as wary of the political right and their machinations.

From linked article (Dayton Daily News):

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar. During the month, Muslims fast (do not eat) from sunrise to sunset.

Wow. Do they stop book learnin at the 6th grade in Dayton? People really don't know what "fast" means?

I'm sad to say that i was not at all surprised. I condemn such actions. But you cannot blame the McCain campaign for the acts unless there is deliberate proof. Intent is a motherfarker to prove.
