I'm a matrimonial attorney and same-sex divorces/dissolutions are really interesting. Since there are a lot of unanswered questions, some lucky divorcee will be looking forward to ridiculously high attorney fees as several key issues have to be litigated.

Certain side effects may include feelings of contentment and a desire to relate to anybody. In some clinical cases, people we thought were men actually turned out to be women! Currently, there is no limit to the amount of LESBITOL one can swallow, as it only prepares the patient for other related activities.

I hope you're joking about being a Comp Sci major, because if you haven't already landed in the industry, you are in for a helluva shock.

If by "obscurity", you mean "low market penetration", then while you are technically correct, practically you are wrong. Don't get me wrong, a virus writer or other black-hat could as easily gain control of a Mac running OSX as they could a Windows box, if they are aware of usable security holes.

Practically, however, most attacks are going to be focused toward PCs running Windows, since that is where the majority of users (and thus data to mess with) are concentrated. In this sense, a Mac user has fewer chances of coming under an attack by a black-hat than does a Windows user. A Linux user has fewer chances still.

The smart user sets up his computer on a network behind a firewall, has his anti-virus/spyware software running, keeps up with the security updates, and stays away from IE and Outlook (if on a Windows box).

If you mean "obscurity", though, as in the sense of "hidden away from prying eyes", I am not sure how you can apply that notion fairly to a Mac. OSX is based on BSD, one of the most secure and stable operating systems around. Unless Apple has truely munged it up something bad (or added modules or other software that causes holes without providing updates), that level of security should still hold. That doesn't mean that one shouldn't have a firewall or keep up with security updates (regardless of operating system), just that I think you are being disingenuous about the level of security Macs provide users.

As far as the term "PC" not meaning "Windows", once again, while you are technically correct, you are also practically incorrect.

In today's marketplace, when you say "PC", you heavily imply "Windows", simply because most users of what is uniformly known as PC-based hardware (Intel 80x86+ instruction-set based CPUs) run that operating system and know of no other operating systems which can be used on that platform. Indeed, in today's world, while a user may know the words "operating system", few if any could give you a correct definition of what an operating system does or why it is necessary in a modern computer system.

So, while it is true that the term "Personal Computer" does not mean that a given computer system is running Windows (techinally, it should mean it is running DOS 1.0, or a varient of CP/M, but I digress), for all practical purposes, in today's world, when a person says or thinks "PC", they instantly associate "Windows" with that term.

Anyone working in this industry is wise to keep the above knowledge in mind at all times.

yeah, the same thing goes with the term DSL. It seems the telecoms, notably AT&T, have cornered the usage. Where it simply means, Digital Subscriber Line, the same term can be applied to any digital connection, whether it be via coaxial cable or RJ12.

Thank you for also pointing out that many Mac users are still elitist asshats who like to condescend Windows users.

Don't forget that the time when Macs need an antivirus update every day grows sooner and sooner with every Mac sold. Script kiddies didn't write viruses for Mac because it wouldn't infect as many users as Windows. Now that more Mac users are appearing on the scene, it won't take long for someone to take on the challenge of the Mac OS too.

So, you just agreed with everything I said?

Obscurity, or "low market penetration" does not equate a secure system. The threat of attack is still there, however, with a lower incentive to do so.

... and in "today's market place" PC does not mean Windows. PC is still personal computer, no matter how synomynous the two terms may become. People refer to an object's color to describe its hue, does that make it right?

No.

Maybe you don't know what (!=) means.
