The border of the US and Mexico is a highly populated one. There is constant traffic between the two nations at these places and many time issues arise on one side of the border that affects the other side.

The part of Russia that Alaska is near is one of the most uninhabited places on the whole planet. It has little to no infrastructure, mostly a nomadic indigenous population, and I believe in 25000 square miles of area, only has 400 miles of rail lines and roads.

For the two people out there that still haven't heard Palin's highly enlightened economic policies. Straight from the horses mouth, as they say.
