Yeah. They looked great when I left them in bed this morning.

"Katie, I'd like to use one of my lifelines. ... I want to phone a friend."

Didn't a farker make that joke?

And they don't look alike. Tina's cute.

SNL sketch was kinda lame. I think when the reality is so much a joke to begin with, it's hard to satirize.

Mugato: And they don't look alike. Tina's cute.

And smart.

Although, I suppose as head of the SNL writing team, you could say she has "executive experience"...

Palin if funnier.

The SNL writing team has more people than Wasilla, Alaska. Wasilla, however, is funnier.

Tina Fey was fantastic, but so was the girl who played Katie Couric.

Mmmmyes, far inferior to (obscure cable show no one cares about).

It says a lot that the lines which were taken from actual quotes by Palin were actually dumber than the dumb blonde jokes Anna Faris told during her monologue.

Faris > Fey >>>>>>>>> Palin

Torque420 2008-09-28 11:37:52 AM
The SNL skit was spot on once again. Im astounded how much she looks and sounds like Palin. Shes also getting her manerisms down pretty good. I hope Tina is right and that after Nov 4th she wont have to play Palin anymore. Good news for the country but bad news for SNL. This is the funniest stuff theyve had on their for a long time.

FTFA: She is widely considered to look like Palin, and "SNL" executive producer Lorne Michaels persuaded her to ride the show's hot hand.

I haven't heard this "ride the hot hand" expression before, but I would like to invite Ms. Fey to ride my hot hand.

The first time they were able to take shots at Clinton too, so it balanced it out and it didn't seem as mean. Plus, they were making fun of the media more than the candidates. This time, with it just being her, it feels like they are picking on the slow kid.

I think SNL's election spoofs have been pretty good ("Health care for EVERYONE in the UNIVERSE???"). The rest of it still sucks, though.

That's because they are picking on the slow kid. Problem?

I did see them in the same room but the sound was off, so it doesn't count.

That was the main point of the bit, they sprinkled in real quotes from her directly in there and they were indistinguishable from the made up quotes.

the reality of the situation requires no satire to be amusing. And terrifying.

Marla Singer's Laundry: Problem?

Don't get me wrong. She's an idiot. But it would be better satire to have the target of the sketch be McCain or his campaign trying to spin her increasing stupid statements. Because really, she's stupid, but the absurdity isn't that's she's stupid, it's that they picked someone that stupid for their VP candidate.

incendi [TotalFark] 2008-09-28 11:57:47 AM
I'm fairly certain Tina Fey could spit out a pre-staged answer to softball questions posed by Katie Couric.

They did pick on McCain's erratic behavior later in the show when they satirized the debate.

Well, then there's copious motive and opportunity for the GOP to change that. They could show that we're all wrong about Palin by having her come out, talk to the press, talk to the people, and let them know her stance on the issues that are common to all of us, not just those from Alaska. We have been reassured on several occasions that she's bright, experienced, and up to the task. All she has to do is demonstrate that herself. Experience alone should make her able to handle that completely.

If only there were ways for people in power to communicate their message that could reach millions of voters. You'd think they could come up with ONE. Perhaps they should ask all those other people who somehow manage to do this what their secret is.

Now of course, if those reassurances aren't valid - she's not bright, she lacks the necessary experience, and isn't up to the task, when then I guess they're going to have to put up with the reactions from the general populace that call their reassurances into question.

Mugato: Didn't a farker make that joke?

Yes, and, clearly, it is so original and obscure and genius and unlikely a joke that there is no doubt in anyone's mind but that it could not have been independently conceived of by a room full of individuals whose job it is to conceive of and write such jokes, leaving the only explanation that it was mined and stolen from said Farker.

This is also true of the expressions "everybody panic" and "I'd hit it."

So, what if I say, "Everybody panic, I'd hit it!" ???

It's going to be a long wait to find an appropriate way to fit that into a thread.

Bacontastesgood: SNL sketch was kinda lame. I think when the reality is so much a joke to begin with, it's hard to satirize.

If I wrote the sketch, it would have been a bunch of SNL writers watching the tape of the interview, getting angry that they couldn't top it.

Writer: How about if Palin says "Health care begats all things economic friendly to scary, scary trade?"

*watches tape*

Other writer: Nope, your fake Palin just made more sense.

Writer: Okay, how about if Palin says "Let's harness the spirit whale's gift for energy, just as the Inuits did across from economic job creation economics."?

*watches tape*

Other writer: Damn. You're close, but her version is still funnier.

Third writer: I mean, Putin rears his head and where does he go? That's brilliant. That's like Monty Python crossed with Stanley Kubrick. Just brilliant.

/if that didn't make you laugh, then that's why I'm not a writer for SNL
//or maybe that would be a good qualification, actually...

This. I would, absolutely. Fey is intelligent and articulate. Palin would get lost taking the guided White House tour.

Then again, Fey would have the personal fortitude to know she wasn't qualified and would turn the offer down.

How is it that 30 Rock is so brilliant and funny and SNL is so lame? Isn't it basically the same group of writers?

FarKnight 2008-09-28 02:29:34 PM
If Palin was able I'd say she should go on SNL and confront Fey Janet Reno style, but that'll never happen.

30 Rock has Alec Baldwin as a main cast member and more Tina Fey. Of course it's funnier.
