Yeah, if you could just get past that headline:

Fear_and_Loathing: LaChanz: Kyle Upgraded To Hurricane, Headed Toward Maine

Minor hurricane. Folks should pay attention.

Looks like it will miss the lobbies too!

Well, maybe then it should be "...on the news that Maine is about to be grazed by..."

But as we all know, just the anticipation of a hurricane will drive up prices.

I'm well inland so I'm sure that it's of no concern to me. The last one I remember hitting kinda hard when I lived on the coast was Gloria I believe. I made a lot of money on tree clean up on that one.

Fear_and_Loathing [TotalFark] 2008-09-28 06:11:58 AM
Gloria smacked us right in the face. It was minor also. It still caused a lot of damage. I was just happy it was passing Maine bye.

I don't wish it on Canada either.

Nor' Atlantic, rock and roll!

Bunger surf cam from Gilgo Beach, NY (new window)

It's kicking things up around here a bit too. Minor tidal flooding but no big deal at the moment. Hang in there Maine.

Friggin' greedy lobsters. I bet they all start eating more now, you watch. They're using this as an excuse. It'll be interesting to see how much of this money is going to go towards cleaning up the sea floor.

Oh no, this means the price of lobster in Boston will go up to $9 a pound. I might have to start eating steak instead.

/landlocked states can suck it

being a mainer, I can say it's fairly likely native tourism will increase where the storm will hit (i.e., lets drive right into it ayuh!)

Hurricane Kyle??

"Hi Tucker, I'm Todd." "Hi Todd, I'm Tucker." fark Tucker, Tucker sucks. And fark Tucker's friend Kyle. Thats another soft name for a boy. Kyle. Soft names make soft people. I'll bet you ten times out of ten, Nicky, Vinnie, and Tony would beat the shiat out of Todd, Kyle, and Tucker.

BatardAmericain: Projected storm track my ass! A shift of the wind to the west and those of us living in Connecticut will get slammed.

Yeah right, If a gust of wind came up and pushed that sonofabiatch into connecticut, I would be much more worried about the gust of wind than the hurricane.

Worst case scenario I see, is 65-75 MPH winds with a landfall somewhere east of Eastport, Maine, somewhere in the Maritime provinces. knowing the whether patterns around here, I place it somewhere near Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Houses up in that neck of the woods are designed to simply take that sort of shiat. a few trees may blow over, and a few roofs will need to be replaced, but that will be the extent of the damage. Oh, did I mention the minor flooding? No? well, most everyone up here in the Northeast and Maritime Provinces have enough intelligence to build outside of the flood plain, so that is usually not a problem.

Pay for lobster? You're doing it wrong, deah. That's only for tourists.

Last time I checked, lobster was $4.99 a pound. $5.99? Still cheap.

There's a place down the road from me that has TRIPLE 1.25 pound lobsters for $19.99, with rolls and coleslaw.

Cook's Lobster House, Bailey Island... Hands-down, best lobster dinner in the southern part of the state.

What? Went to school 'round there. Spend my 21st birthday at Cook's. Go back every ten years or so.

Our national dependency on lobsters is being ruthlessly exploited by the hurricane industry! We need more government regulation, NOW!

Big_Thumb [TotalFark] 2008-09-28 12:37:20 PM
Looks like high tide will coincide with the storm's arrival. looking at 1+ meters over high tide in the Moncton area. That plus the 100mm or so of rain is going to make it a bit messy.

Here in Freddy, we got 37mm rain yesterday, expecting another 70-100 today and tonight. So much for yard work.

KNW 2008-09-28 12:44:32 PM
Wow. So lobster will be $25/lb instead of $24/lb out here in the praries. Gee, like it wasn't expensive enough; good ting we've got all these cows and beef is $2/lb..

physt 2008-09-28 01:11:37 PM
I'm live in Maine and didn't even notice the hurricane. This is just what you call "a little rain". The only thing impacted is my families visit to the corn maze. Darn!

/Oh yea, somehow the air conditioners failed in the server room and the servers are all down.

Actually, they're Mainers. They'll tie the boats extra tight and be back to sea to pick up the ocean cockroaches on Tuesday. Oh and if there is any damage to their homes or their neighbors, they'll take care of it. FEMA not needed there.

\They'll still take checks
\\tough but not stupid after all.

OMG!!! What will Kerry and the other elitists eat? They'll starve without these expensive elitists foods! They may have to reduce themselves to eating ordinary peoples food. Please Bush, turn off your hurricane machine!

Filthy_Farkle [TotalFark] 2008-09-28 02:25:59 PM
When I was a boy, the storms came, the storms went. After the storm, we went on with our lives. Gas and lobster prices were unchanged.

I want to go back to that system and trash the one that's in place today.

Now, get OFF my lawn, you progressive little snot slingers!

Lobster is ordinary food in Maine. I had some softshells for $4/lb the other day.

is the east coast ready for a hurricane? it's not like the gulf coast, where we get threatened or ran over by one at least once a year

for you yankees, get lots of water, fill up your bathtubs, with water, make sure you have batteries, and flashlights, and make sure you have plenty of canned food, cause if your power goes out for several days, you're either grilling all the meat in the fridge or tossing it straigh to a trashcan
