Replace all instances of "man" or "male" with "penis".

How about ending the sexual discrimination completely, and just having... "Toilet"?

I don't know... Men and women have completely different rules regarding restroom etiquette. Men don't talk or make eye contact, whereas women can carry on conversations and don't really avoid looking anywhere other than a closed stall.

If both genders shared public restrooms, I think women would feel uncomfortable with men using urinals in their presence because they haven't been trained not to look there, and men would feel uncomfortable with women continuing their conversations even into the stalls.

king_nacho [TotalFark] 2008-09-28 12:48:13 AM
I thought it was illegal to have men going into the same restroom women use when there can be more than one person in the restroom.

A single toilet by itself is fine, however if more than one person can use the restroom at one time, i thought legally they had to be separate genders.

king_nacho [TotalFark] 2008-09-28 12:52:00 AM
would this even be legal in the US with the laws regarding dealing with Blind, Illiterate or other things covered under the ADA?

When I was eleven or twelve my mother made me up as a girl for a Halloween costume party at school. Apparently she did a pretty good job because several people who knew me didn't even recognize me. It was all good fun until I had to pee. I remember trying to decide which restroom I should use. I didn't want to cause a fuss if someone saw a "girl" going into the boy's room and I couldn't use the girl's room because ... well ... because I'm not a girl. I finally gave up and just went outside behind a building.

No, this isn't all that relevant to the topic, but I don't get many occasions to bring up that anecdote.

And that would change with time, if toilets were desegregated.

How about ending the confusion for those poor transgendered people by putting up signs that say, "If you have a penis, use this restroom" and "If you have a vagina, use this restroom"?

No matter what sex your brain tells you that you are, it's as easy as looking down to tell whether you have a penis or a vagina.

Because if someone lives as female regardless of genitalia, they should be allowed to use the women's restroom. The same goes for transmen.

I'd rather there was a third option for bathrooms, something that was 'unisex'. But if you gotta go, you gotta go.

penis = anatomically male
how much simpler could it be?
it has nothing to do with what you think you are, it's basic biology being used to choose a room for a basic biological function.

It's not always that simple.

It's a matter of safety as well. If someone looks and identifies as male, why should they have to use the ladies restroom? Don't you think the women there would freak out? Vice versa, if someone looks and identifies as female, it's not particularly safe for them to use the men's room. Why not just let them use the ladies room?

Is your irony intentional?

Anyway, for the change that was made to be a solution to the scenarios that you have posed, we require the following:

1) Prior to the change, someone who "looks and identifies as male", but doesn't have a penis, must have "had issues" when wishing/attempting to use the restroom with the "MEN" sign on the door.

2) After the change, someone who "looks and identifies as male", but doesn't have a penis, must not have had those issues when wishing/attempting to use the restroom with the "TOILETS AND URINALS" sign on the door.

I have my doubts about both of those conditions being met.

In a side note:
"She felt the basement would be the most appropriate area to trial this. This was agreed."
I'm not a big fan of the use of 'trial' as a verb. The word you are looking for is 'try'.

Actually, at my work I have heard the ladies room is worse. Of course there are also far fewer men, so our bathroom really doesn't get much traffic. We do, however, get the occasional Car and Driver or Road and Track because of the tire distribution office down the hall.

Doc Batarang 2008-09-28 05:40:42 AM
I've seen a lot of ladies rooms in my tenure in the work force and I've got to say that I don't blame the trannies one bit - women's washrooms are waay dirtier.

The men's room might look dirtier, but vandalism is cleanliness neutral really - it won't infect you with anything!

DoctorCal 2008-09-28 05:47:01 AM
I should be asleep.

Lemme break it down for you.

-You have to defecate. Hence, you are going to be sitting down.

*If you dress, groom, and "self-identify" as a male, use The Men's Room.

*If you dress, groom, and "self-identify" as a female, use The Ladies' Room.

-You have to urinate.

If you dress, groom, and "self-identify" as a male, and have a penis, use The Men's Room (not that you needed it explained to you). You can use a urinal, if available, or you can sit on a toilet if you have some irrational fear that someone wants to watch your flaccid little frank while you pee-shiver.

If you dress, groom, and "self-identify" as a male, and don't have a penis, use The Men's Room. Knock yourself all the fark out. You're probably gonna want to sit down though, because that "back up and hike your ass at a urinal" think is awkward, and the "wow! she can stream like a dude!" thing even more so, no matter what the damned sign on the door says. Pro-tip: don't look at a coin-op vending machine in there in an attempt at "verisimilitude". That's a tell.

If you dress, groom, and "self-identify" as a female, and don't have a penis...yeah, you don't need this explained. Take your entourage in where the couches, tanning bed, and "rate your date" bulletin board are, like you always have.

If you dress, groom, and "self-identify" as a female, and have a penis, for the sake of every deity ever uttered in prayer by humans, tell me before I pay for a hotel room. Dammit.

Id shiat outside before i shared a restroom with a women. Most are freaking pigs.

I worked in a cubicle hell company as a porter. Man, i actually found poop on toilet seats....in the womens bathroom. Not to mentioned used pads laying around. Even though their are disposal bags for that in each stall.

Worst thing i found in the mens room? Honestly nothing.

They are even pigs in the break room. Been multiple times i was changing a trash bag and in the process a few people just through trash in the bin..without a bag in it..as im standing next to it tieing up the full bag.

I got sick of it and called one lady out on it. 5 seconds later i had 4 other women around me calling me a racist honky.

God i hated that place, at times i wish i would have jacked off into the creamer.

Unless they build a stall around the urinal it's still highly frowned upon for me or any other woman to go in there, yet this leaves a lot of room for men to venture into the ladies room. So i'm feeling pretty oppressed here with this bathroom intrusion.

So, let's make 99.9% of the population uncomfortable/confused to make some freaks feel better? That's more than PC, that's stupid. Here's the solution: don't leave the house if you're too farked up to figure out what bathroom to use in public.

Don't forget different ones for pre-op and post-op transsexuals as well as a separation between women>men transgenders and man>women transgenders. Also one for the natural hermaphrodites and one for transvestites.

lohphat 2008-09-28 06:19:09 AM
There's a restaurant in Amsterdam named "Suppeclub". Go if you can; there's one in San Francisco but it's a shadow of the original.

There the restrooms are labeled "Hetero" and "Homo". Bothe are outfitted identically with stalls and urinals. However the wall separating the rooms are where the urinals are mounted and over them is a partially silvered mirror - you can clearly see the face and torso of the person on the other side looking at you.

The affect is comical as people go downstairs. They're perplexed but also need to "go". The lloks on their face afterwards is priceless.

The way it makes you think about society is a lesson worth the trip.
