You can tell the ratings are tanking, when they go for the "wedding episode."

I came here to say this.

That, and, nothing exemplifies the spirit of christian conservatism like a shotgun wedding.

Actually i think it's more often the poorly explained new child addition when the show's turned to crap... i guess they already did that though

"It would be fantastic," said a McCain insider. "You would have every TV camera there. The entire country would be watching. It would shut down the race for a week."

Hahahahahaha A week for a redneck shotgun wedding?! The narcissism is astonishing.

Levi dies heroically in battle. Nation gathers sympathetically around beautiful young mother and sweet little baby. Congress asks Palin if there are any laws they can pass, "to help out"

Inside John McCain's campaign the expectation is growing that there will be a popularity boosting pre-election wedding in Alaska between Bristol Palin, 17, and Levi Johnston, 18, her schoolmate and father of her baby. "It would be fantastic," said a McCain insider. "You would have every TV camera there. The entire country would be watching. It would shut down the race for a week."

Disgusting. I guess it's whatever it takes for the GOP to win though.......

I think I know of only a few couples whose marriage lasted after tje bride got knocked up, and those marriages are far from being without their own problems and issues, especially regarding maturity and fidelity.

/my aunt lives in Yuma, we go to the Arizona/California casino there everytime we visit her. Always been curious if one can really get busted for transporting alcohol over state lines if you go from the Arizona side to the Cali side with a cup of beer. Sadly they have a guard there.

It's from an old game show called "Press Your Luck". Players stop a random sequence of lights by pressing a button. If it lands on a money amount, they win that amount. If it lands on a Whammy, they lose everything

They could have Palin slip into a coma and come out of it the day before the election. It's not like she's contributing anything to the campaign intellectually and you know McCain would love to have her in a situation where she doesn't say anything.

Chariset [TotalFark] 2008-09-27 10:32:08 PM
You're all missing the point. This is a trial-run of her new abstinence-only sex ed plan. If she makes enough of an example of Bristol and Levi, it might scare other teenagers out of having sex. See? It's so clever.

scruffy1: I think I know of only a few couples whose marriage lasted after tje bride got knocked up, and those marriages are far from being without their own problems and issues, especially regarding maturity and fidelity.

My husband was the product of a teen pregnancy, and his parents got married in a shotgun wedding. They're still together, and they're very happy, but I will say that they're not very mature in some ways. They've never been able to handle money responsibly, and while they weren't abusive or neglectful, they weren't very good parents. (My husband had a lot of emotional issues to work through with a therapist, mostly stemming from the fact that his parents would rather blame things on their kid than accept responsibility for their own actions.)

Again, I have no doubt that my in-laws are as crazy in love with each other as they were when they were reckless teenagers forgetting to use protection, but based on the way my FIL gives in to my MIL when she's being unreasonable, I wonder whether he would have developed the ability to stand his ground against her if he hadn't been forced to marry her when he was eighteen. Likewise, I wonder if my MIL would have learned not to be so frivolous if she didn't have a husband who's been indulging her since she was seventeen.

SphericalTime [TotalFark] 2008-09-27 11:05:41 PM
There's considering throwing the controversial pre-marital pregnancy and shotgun wedding of the VP pick's daughter back into the spotlight?

Crap. Palin has absolutely no empathy for her family.

And it's a stupid idea politically. Yes, let's bring up a failure that turns off Independents and thrust it back to center stage.

Bacontastesgood 2008-09-27 11:12:02 PM
But won't her wedding be disrupted by .... H. Ross Perot?

Earguy [TotalFark] 2008-09-27 11:13:33 PM
I really thought that the whole "but they're going to get married" thing was just to calm down the party faithful until the election. I'm sticking to that.

Afterward, I expect to hear an explanation of how things didn't work out, how it's better than being divorced later, please respect my family's privacy, we love everyone involved, they're still good friends, etc.

No way they're going to rush a wedding. This is simply unsubstantiated speculation published as news. Much like the "Biden is dropping out" story (pops) that was admittedly started by an Opie and Anthony guy.

yeah, i know, i know... was just trying for the 'oh, here's a great reason not to debate' thing. and that said, of the last dozen saturday weddings i've done, five of the rehearsal dinners have been on the thursday before the event. and no, i have no idea why

Eh, for all we know he's a Federline-esque sleazeball who realizes what a good meal ticket he could have as the Vice President's son-in-law.

I think the whole thing is incredible, though. As in not credible. The way they're putting an orange-blossom-bandaid on this scandal is starting to alienate the moderate undecided.

I think this is just the way they do things in Wassilia. After all that's how Bristol came to be.

You know if you say that to his face he will kick ASS!

The internals for the McCain campaign must be absolutely terrible for them to start throwing out random stunts like this.

Last week: McCain suspends campaign!
This week: Levi and Bristol plan nuptuals!
Next week: McCain challenges Obama to Chili cook off for presidency!

/Also, this wedding will be bad news....for Obama

I'll bet McCain got him alone, sat him down, looked directly into his eyes and said "Listen you hockey playing little shiat. I will not have my campaign derailed by some farking kid who can't keep his dick in his pants. You are going to do exactly as we tell you. Do we understand each other?"

Then Levi pissed himself.

Followed by the "Very Special Episode" where someone is on drugs or was molested.

What a farce.

Chariset: The way they're putting an orange-blossom-bandaid on this scandal is starting to alienate the moderate undecided.

They started that with their choice to make Palin the VP nominee. This wedding would be them driving a stake through the heart of the undecided independents before lopping off their garlic stuffed heads.

gadian [TotalFark] 2008-09-28 02:21:01 AM
I'm sure a christian conservative young woman, even one who finds herself in such a way, does not want all of her wedding pictures to proudly feature the bulge AND have them do so in front of the entire nation. Sarah must really want to embarass her daughter for embarassing her. Shame on you Bristol for pointing out the foolishness of your mother.

Dr.Zom 2008-09-28 02:21:07 AM
If they do it I'd expect an announcement early this week. That or another patented McCain stunt.

I'm so excited! What new level of desperation can the McCain campaign sink to next?

Wow. The McCain/Palin campaign looks more like the Maury Povich show than a presidential ticket.
