That was great. Next, he'll learn how to tune his guitar, and the guy on lead will actually learn the riff.

/even so, that was pretty cool.

His name is Vince Mira.

Hey, he and his band may not have been perfect, but 15? Not too shabby. Cut 'em some slack.

Dude! I don't normally listen to country western type music but that was uncanny how much he sounded like Mr Cash. The link to ring of fire was cool also.

"The sounds that come out of this 15 year old's body."

hehe

Very Impressive. But he needs to get his own sound. Can only ride those coattails for so long.

Eff the kid... nice slappin' on the upright there...

... it's frickin' hard to do if you've not tried...

I only listened to half of it, but I thought it was a pretty decent cover.

Is that the same kid as in this one? Ring of Fire (new window)

Oopsie, I could have sworn I'd read the thread. Sorry!

Look, I'm a drip and I know that. But if a 15 year old kid with no life experience to speak of, can write a song at that level (which is what they claimed), well it doesn't speak to highly about our songs.

Anyway, best wishes to this kid, I liked that and the Ring of Fire cover, and I hope he does well in the future.

Still, 15 year olds today compared to 15 years old around the depression, there ain't no comparin'.

/James M. Cain for the win.

The guy introducing Him sounds really familiar, or is that just that generic radio-guy voice?

Stradavus 2008-09-27 10:30:42 PM
People keep pushing this kid as the spiritual continuation of Cash, but I've got to say, I just don't hear it. Yes, he can sing in a low voice, but he lacks the fundamental characteristic of Cash's voice.

Sorry.

2nd'd...I have to agree. Look on UToob and there's lots of other people, just as talented singing Johnny Cash... And not getting this kind of exposure. Makes me wonder what the motive behind pushing his "sound" is.

//not a fan of karaoke, even if it's bring your own guitar.
///Yep. I write and play my own music. Yep on youtube. Yep I get people who like and hate my stuff. But. At least it's my stuff.

Honestly I was really impressed! The kid did a great job. And at 15? Holy shiat

meh, this actually sounds like cash, unlike the videos where he sounds merely very similar

Yes. Aside from his unique timber, the stand-out part of Cash's voice was his shambling into the notes, like you think he's not going to hit the right note- the right pitch, but he does anyway. Just kind of wanders into it. I watched the Ring of Fire link(s) from above and, while impressed, just didn't get the feel of it. Perhaps it was the way he pronounced "fi-re" almost as if it had 2 syllables. Cash didn't quite say "farh" as is bandied in country stereotypes, but it comes out as one smooth, rolling enunciation.

All that said, the kid is good. Could go far. Hope they aren't pushing him beyond his present abilities.

WaywardSon [TotalFark] 2008-09-28 12:05:50 AM
Kid, when you're "bending" notes with your vocals (like Tom Petty's "dip" for instance) you have to time it right: bend them too long and you're just out of tune the entire time. It's distracting and painful to listen to.

/as is my usage of prepositional phrases at the ends of sentences
//kid does not sound like Cash, more like a lousy Cash impersonator

roguelantern 2008-09-28 01:03:56 AM
He sounds more like Jim Nabors. Sha-zam!!

heebie_stevo 2008-09-28 01:03:57 AM
Out of tune. You can't hit that low note yet kid. Wait a few more years. And write your own songs while your at it.

No one will ever sound like Cash.

Scopa 2008-09-28 01:36:47 AM
The kids not bad... but you can tell its not his song he is singing. I am not a huge Cash fan or anything, but I looked up a recording of the original: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=i1xSt7iganA

And after watching/listening to both versions, the original has more range, more emotion, and is a better performance. The kid is trying too hard, almost like he is forcing his voice to go so low since it doesn't do it naturally.

This guy does a pretty good imitation of Cash. The lead guitar actually does the lick pretty well, too.

//aww who am I kidding, this performance and album blows my mind

EchoMike [TotalFark] 2008-09-28 07:29:06 AM
I, too, was impressed by the slap bass. The rest?...not so much.

/voice doesn't sound natural
//also lacks soul
///just because you like Johnny Cash doesn't mean you are Johnny Cash

Wait... You mean we are supposed to live like Mr. Rogers told you and compliment everyone and everything, no matter if it's good or not? People aren't allowed to have a different opinion than yours? What's your message here?

It's the BJ Shea morning experience (in Seattle). The video was taken on opening day for the Seattle Mariners at the Pyramid Brewery across the street (2008). I was there!

No message at all. It was a statement from opinion. I don't like Johnny Cash or his music but he was a great artist. I didn't like this kids choice of music either but I did recognize his talent. I like it when people say nice things as well as being critical but most of the posts only focus on negative aspects.
