How so?

McCain got almost no coverage in early summer.

"liberal media" is a concept invented in full by Ronald Reagan. There is not and has never been a "liberal media bias."

IStateTheObvious 2008-09-27 06:06:42 PM
I dont doubt it. There was a hot and heavy primary at the time between Obama and Hillary. McCain had already won the nomination so there was no point to start in on McCain at the time.

Mr.Insightful 2008-09-27 06:07:14 PM
That would be a funny comment, Tacoby, except that I know you mean it.

shamanwest 2008-09-27 06:07:21 PM
Don't worry. This will not mean that you Indys will need to stop saying that the media is against you. Just ignore it like you always do.

There is a "truthiness" that you must maintain, after all.

Warning: This post was not for real Independents... This is for all those "independents".

I'm a liberal. I'm so liberal, my asshole looks like the gootse guy. I'm coming to take your guns, fark your wife, make her have an abortion, fark your daughter, make her her have an abortion, fark you in the ass, marry your son, and while doing it I'm going to talk about the opera, my hybrid, and the price of arugula. HitInTheJunk: Geez, could The Scientific American be any more in the tank for Obama?

To be fair, the MSM was in the tank for Hillary. You could tell alot of them just didnt comprehend how Obama came completely out of left field and have the popularity he had. Thats one of the reasons Hillary thought she had the nomination before the primaries ever started.

Sorry bout that GrooveMonkey. Brain bleach is being FedEx'd overnight express.

Fret not, though. The GOP will find something to whine about anyhow. They're like hardcore addicts: if you take away their primary source they'll just stoop to something lower.

Then they'll tell us what whiny pussies the "liberals" are.

Our media companies are owned by mega corporations.

NBC, for example, is owned by General Electric. General Electric cares about one thing: MONEY. In television, profits come from ratings.

If you think General Electric (or any other mega-corporation that owns a news media outlet) is interested in sacrificing money in exchange for pushing a partisan political agenda, you are a fool.

It's simply a matter of miscommunication: to the Republicans, the internet itself is liberal media.

Disappointing article. Instead of dabbling in the media arts, Scientific American should explore sociology; e.g., whether the office of president (combined Head of State/Chief Executive) is an obsolete political form, as are "Emperor" or "Warlord".

No. It's not an obsolete form. However, America has regarded Congress as an obsolete form.

bubbaprog: "liberal media" is a concept invented in full by Ronald Reagan. There is not and has never been a "liberal media bias."

Rich Bond, then chair of the Republican Party, explained during the 1992 election, "There is some strategy to [bashing the 'liberal' media]. . . . If you watch any great coach, what they try to do is 'work the refs.' Maybe the ref will cut you a little slack on the next one."
http://www.utne.com/2003-07-01/Myth-of-the-Liberal-Media.aspx

"I admit it," Bill Kristol told The New Yorker in 1995. "The whole idea of the 'liberal media' was often used as an excuse by conservatives for conservative failures."

Tacoby Bellisbury: False.

1) Because Tacoby Bellisbury knows better than Scientific American.

2) It's science, therefore it's liberal

3) Victory of personal conviction over facts.

bubbaprog: "liberal media" is a concept invented in full by Ronald Reagan. There is not and has never been a "liberal media bias."

Reagan often got things wrong. He misstated the law, history, world events. He had a positive genius for ignoring facts in favor of his personal convictions. Reagan's personal convictions were generally more attractive than reality, and he spoke of them with such inspiration, that many people bought them, hook, line, and sinker.

"Liberal Media" was how Reagan explained away the facts.

"Voodoo Economics" survives to this day thanks to the genius of Reagan.

"I will cut taxes, rebuild our military, and balance the budget"
- Ronald Reagan 1980
"Two out of three ain't bad"
- Ronald Reagan 1984

Fortunately for conservatives, Scientific-Americans are not a large voting bloc.

captain_heroic44 2008-09-27 06:28:43 PM
Really, the media have been pretty squarely in McCain's camp this year. Obama has managed to get his message through despite that. One example is recent coverage of Obama's answers to McCain's sleazy, negative campaign. McCain lied and distorted Obama's record for months, while Obama stayed on the high road. Finally, now that Obama is calling McCain out on his crap, the media are acting like Obama is somehow "equal" to McCain. I.e., McCain is allowed to start going negative, but Obama isn't allowed to finish it.
