They are one of the best bands in the world right now and I cant wait for a new album. I have often compared them to the Beatles because of how versatile their sound is. They can play any style and have it be of the highest quality.

I saw the bass player (Dave) at a small bar in Brooklyn last weekend. He was part of a two piece with a 21 year old drummer who has played with Robert Fripp and Project Object already. He was increibly nice even after the first thing I said to him was "I love you." I would have liked to have that one back. Great time though.

Got some in my freezer right now ready to be grilled. I am just going to put it in some tinfoil and squeeze some lemon on it. Any other ideas to prepare to better?

i would always broil mine with some butter. and it's a good meaty fish if you're making a manhatten style tomato-based fish chowder

wow, I snuck in the Butthole Surfers in 3 headlines in the past 2 months, but to have them with Ween... where's my weird award?

/favorite band...Ween too
//watched part of the show that has Gibby in it... Not bad, as exciting as a fishing show can get, I guess

Nice thanks I have a bunch of it and not much to do with my time this weekend. Both of those sound like they would be appreciated by my roommates.

saw them 3 times, but i saw the "Painting the town Brown" tour in New Jersey.... 4 farking hours i went on... of nothing but oldies ....awesome before that, i saw them with old country session musicians doing their country album in its entirety, and some of their old ones with a country flavour .... they are supremely awesome live and getting better

I think that is why they are so awesome. The just keep getting more solid but continue to maintain that which makes them Ween. I have seen them twice on the tour after Shinola and then the latest tour. Them and Gogol Bordello are the best shows I have seen in a long time. In the future people are going to look back and wonder why they werent bigger (or on the radio at least).

And also the way they can hammer out covers of stuff like Billy Joel "piano man" or "aces of Spades" and nail them perfectly. I was impressed, Gene can sing!

and yes, Id steal your entire cd collection also

I've seen every episode.

One of the four or five greatest rock bands of the last 30 years.

/La Cucaracha is their weakest album since Pure Guava, though. It pains me to say that.

sigdiamond2000: La Cucaracha is their weakest album since Pure Guava, though. It pains me to say that.

Yea but all those albums in between are A+ shiat.

"Object"
"Learnin' to Love"
"My Own Bare Hands"
"Spirit Walker"
"Lullaby"
"Woman and Man"
"Your Party"

Those are the best tracks on La Cucaracha IMO but I agree about it being the weakest in a while.

They seem to be taking a break for a while so I think they are going to have an awesome come back. Maybe we will get some Moist Boyz shows during the break (I can only hope).

/Quebec is pure musical gold
//or platinum i guess

Ween is absolutely one of the best bands of all time. Their songwriting ability is far beyond anyone I've heard in the past few decades, no contest.

I watched an episode of this fishing show a few months ago. Meh.

weenradio.com seems to have been down the last few days. i haz teh sad.

k-rock 2008-09-26 06:53:40 PM
I gotta disagree with some of you: I think La Cucaracha is a grower. After seeing them play the songs live, I got a whole new appreciation for the album.

The only shame about Ween is that each time I've seen them, it's been at a successively larger venue. Which is too bad, because they are best enjoyed up close and personal.

Saw them a couple years ago with the Flaming Lips and Sonic Youth

Woman and Man on La Cucuracha is one of the most badass things I have ever heard. Don't be hatin on La Cucuracha.

CatfoodSpork: Woman and Man on La Cucuracha

once there was one
once there was only one
a foot, a hand, a tongue
talking to no one
and no one made nothing
to ease the balance it split in two
the old line became creation
and we saw bodies forming
from rib and from monkey
half became the whole
a race of man and woman

woman and man
woman and man working together
i can show you, teach you something
if you listen, man and woman
woman and man working together

ocean and land
ocean is land covered with water
i can tell you, in my answer
if you listen, man and woman
ocean is land covered with water

killing for life
life is a fight, let's fight it together
i can teach, teach you something
if you listen, man and woman
life is a fight, let's fight it together

Awesome and that doesnt even account the music.

I used to work at a 24 hour convenience store in northern Colorado. A few years back, a tour bus pulls into the parking lot during one of my shifts, and a couple of guys get out. One buys a bunch of water, and the other tries to buy beer. Unfortunately, it was after midnight, so I had to decline the beer sale. The guy asks if I know who he is, to which I respond that I didn't. I didn't put two and two together until later: Ween had been doing a show that night in Denver. Sure enough, after checking later, I had discovered that I had refused to sell beer to Ween.

I saw Ween right after God Ween Satan at the Uptown Bar here in Minneapolis. It was them and a boom box. Great stuff. I've seen them a handful of times since and while I'm not a big fan of the jam-band direction they've taken live they're still one of the best bands ever. WAY underrated guitarists and no one can beat them when it comes to covers. Anyone ever get to see the Moistboys?

I am a rabid Ween fan, and La Cucaracha didn't do much for me (pretty big disappointment after the awesomeness of Quebec and Shinola).....sorry Deaner/Geaner.

Wally McAwesome: The guy asks if I know who he is, to which I respond that I didn't.

I was comtemplating asking the Ween enthusiasts for a starter album recommendation, but after reading this I think I'll pass.

foe2minutes 2008-09-27 02:07:27 PM
I thought La Cucaracha was infinitely better than White Pepper. That, and 12 Golden are my two least favorite Ween albums.

Still Itchy, start with Chocolate and Cheese. It's fun and high quality, and still has enough Ween weirdness that you can get a taste. Tell me what you like on there, and I'll give you a recommendation of where to go after...

TheFunChicken 2008-09-27 05:35:05 PM
I'd say start with Pure Guava or Chocolate and Cheese, or even 12 Golden Country Greats. Oh yeah, get The Mollusk and White Pepper too. Then get God Ween Satan, The Pod, Quebec, then La Cucaracha. Then bootleg all the shows you can, make trips to go see them no matter what, and then BAM

shift_DAWG 2008-09-27 11:20:46 PM
I took a piss in his sister's coffee shop in Philly. That was cool.

sumupid 2008-09-28 01:03:59 AM
Agreed La Cucaracha is a grower. I love all their music, but White Pepper is a complete and total skipper. IMO.

Let there be WEEN
