So what you're saying is when the republican president asks for a trillian dollars, asks to nationalize half of the mortgages in america, and ask congress for more--we should blame the democrats for asking for 50 billion?

I got it.

I think of the words of the inimitable John Lydon, who once queried, "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?"

Yup. When Republicans ask for money, they are doing so for the good of America, but no Democrat has ever asked for money to help America. That's what I've learned from 8 years of living in hell, otherwise known as the George W. Bush administration.

It's a $56 billion stimulus package to help the people getting screwed by the companies we're bailing out with the $700 billion package.

/no, I don't see the difference either.

I think any blaming of the Democrats as the main culprits behind all this is what certifies you as either insane or retarded. Which is it? Or are you aware that the Republicans are the ones at fault here, who created this mess? You don't have to support Obama to accept reality.

It doesn't really work. Or rather, it does serve to distance them from him, but raises the obvious issue that they didn't distance themselves from him up until this point. It makes them look divided, weak, and poll-driven.

GaryPDX: That was the conclusion a long time ago just because I don't like Obama.

It's mainly because you say stuff like "Darth Pelosi", and claim to care more about the solar energy credits than any other issue while being completely unaware of who's fighting against them, and who's fighting for them.

As I've said before, I think you're a nice guy, I'd love to have you with me in the Zombie Apocalypse, but you're a combination of naive, ignorant, insane, and willfully disingenuous when it comes to politics.

It all started with the Clintons pushing Freddie and Fannie for more "affordable housing" for people who couldn't afford it in 1999. So yea...blame the Republicans all you want. When the Dems took away the risk, all hell broke loose. Banks sold that shiatty paper to Fannie and Freddie as fast as they could so they wouldn't get stuck with it. And then the music stopped and now the taxpayer gets to pay for it.

I've heard that before and it smells 'talking pointy' to me.

Look - Bush has a plan (there are many copies...) and he thinks it'll save us. The Democrats think a plan is a great idea, but they want some changes made. The rank and file Republicans (well some of them) suddenly rediscovered their fiscal conservatism roots and suddenly balked at the plan. Or maybe they actually listened to their voters. i'm not sure which it was....

My point to all of this is that we have a socially conservative Republican president who is trying very very hard to turn us into a socialist nation. And it's the DEMOCRATS that are iffy on the whole deal. It's bizzaro month in politics. NONE of this makes sense.

This video is dishonest in two ways:

1) Linking the current crisis to a very old law that a Republic government could have reversed during the many years when they controlled both the executive and legislative branch

2) Labelling Obama as part of the problem through association to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac when McCain's historic and present ties to these companies are far more significant (link from a real news source)

Both left leaning and right leaning farkers are arguing past each other. I don't think either side agree with the bail-out and are therefore against their respective candiates postions on the subjects.

As I wanna be American-voter, I wish Obama would have had the balls to completely reject the bail-out idea the first time he heard it. It would have forced McCain to take an opposing position and Obama would have had the poplulist position.

Likewise, if McCain would have come out against the bail-out (right off) and suggested a non-bail out rescue plan he could have locked-up the election.

Wait. Did you *really* just say, "You can't blame the Democrats who caused this problem because the Republicans could have reversed the law?"

And, no. We're labeling Obama as part of the problem through association to Acorn, and that dude who is starting to sing now that his trial is approaching.

And, I wonder whether Bush supporting this bail-out is actually just a way for Bush to distance himself from McCain to make McCain look less Bush-like.

That is exactly my position. The Republicans had complete and absolute control of the government for many years and did nothing to prevent the sub-prime mortgate crisis. The houses that were purchased during the Clinton era are not the ones that got forclosed upon. The bundling of crappy mortgages into mortgage securities happened under Bush's watch.

I'm not claiming the democrats aren't partly to blame but to attempt to label them as the primary cause of the current meltdown is insincere.

Bush doesn't give a fark about who will be the next president. He is pushing the bail-out to protect his rich buddies. The house republicans are finally showing some back bone.
