Sources say Alberto Gonzales now claims that President Bush personally directed him to John Ashcroft's hospital room in the infamous wiretap renewal incident-and that in another instance the President asked him to fabricate fictitious notes

Color me shocked and chagrinned...

Wait, canaries have balls?

Cyberluddite [TotalFark] 2008-09-26 01:12:21 PM
I don't think canaries have balls, Subby. But then again, in fairness, I'm pretty sure Alberto Gonzales doesn't have them either.

What this story lacks is a victim-- not a theoretical victim like "Americans' rights" but a flesh and blood person who was illegally spied on and where the information thereby gained was used against such a person.

Any ideas?

I hear what you're saying and agree. But I'm not holding my breath.

And this story does have a victim in a different sense - Ashcroft. The man who, staunchly conservative and loopy from his condition, knew this was bogus.

Sure: Allow DOJ lawyers access to investigate.

Considering that the information is not only classified, but thanks to the "national security letter" anybody who may have knowledge of their own or another person's rights being violated are barred from talking about it. They cannot even present evidence of a civil rights violation in a US court of law. There may be thousands of people who have had their rights violated, but nobody but the people who were violating those rights know about it.

he's not singing, he's just doing a little CYA by bringing up Bush. Figures he can't get in trouble that way, ad it'll be hard to make anything stick to Bush. As much as I'd like to see Bush and pals tried for war crimes, sad truth is nothing will come of it.

scruffy1 [TotalFark] 2008-09-26 02:37:18 PM
Hey Subby

Lay off will ya? I mean seriously that is just plain cruel and malicious what you have done. Think about it dude we are talking about a poor defenseless creature that is known to save lives. C'mon what the hell did a canary ever do to you to make you compare it to Gonzales of all people?

Lundah [TotalFark] 2008-09-26 02:45:40 PM
Anyone else get the feeling there's going to be a LOT of pardons flying out the door of the White House during the first couple of weeks in January?

Or should that be vise?

He abused "powder" as well, back in the 1970's, but we were not allowed to talk about that in the campaign.

Wrong, because it violated the Constitution, and that makes us all victims. If you can't understand that, then please leave the country and go to China, Cuba, or North Korea where you can feel at home in the authoritarian utopia you seem to crave.

Pzo211 2008-09-26 04:44:14 PM

Yeah, because getting a blow job is totally comparable to starting a war that kills hundreds of thousands over false pretenses, fleecing the treasury, spying without warrants, and torturing people who are innocent (yes, it has happened to that fellow from Canada).

It's totally the same.

yeah, the man in an ICU bed, post-operative day #7 status post emergency cholecystectomy, sedated and weak, whose family had, according to the article, requested not to be bothered by ANYONE.

/never thought I'd defend Ashcroft as a victim

While this is simultaneously sad and amusing, does anyone here really believe it matters at all what he says?

Nothing is going to happen to Bush. He's going to be doing lines off some brown ass down in Paraguay before any of this shiat will make it before a judge.

I firmly believe a message needs to be sent though. Future presidents need to know the shiat's going to hit the fan one way or another if they try stuff like this. Even if Bush gets a night in jail, the pictures of him going to jail would make any other president or vice president with Bush/Cheney's aspirations of power think twice before they try shiat like this again.

Yeps. I am actually kinda shocked by this. I guess I was hoping alot of the perceived evil activities of this administration were a bit overblown but you just can't make this shiat up.

if you're running the type of ship where dozens of disgruntled employees are out getting book deals about you as a boss and leader, at some point you have to start realizing you're a pretty shiatty boss and leader.

Oh you busted me hardcore... because I really think that most abuses of power are really a not betrayal of the public trust... particularly in the procurement of BJ's, or at least those received in a Minneapolis airport bathroom, or from madams in Alabama etc.

99% of people from both sides abuse power for fundamentally the same reason... their own gain! I just wish there was a "NEWS" tag for when stories like this break. That way it would really grab everyone's attention.

They need to all be arrested the day they're leaving the white house, before they have any chance of catching a plane to a non-extraditing country.

True, Ford pardoned Nixon and he hadn't been brought up on any sort of criminal charges yet.

But, can Bush pardon himself?

They do. However, since they're usually on the inside, you can imagine that would give a canary that has them in a vice some motive.
