In yesterday's thread about Palin's getting her word-salad tossed by Katie Couric, someone likened the governor's verbal coherence to that of Bjork.

In the spirit of this thread's story, maybe someone can post the GIF of P-Diddy calling Bjork & asking her to record a track together, but swapping out Bjork for Palin.

Let's play this out the opposite way:

What if Palin claimed to have met with world leaders? She would then be asked which ones. When she said, "Iceland's," it would have become a joke line very akin to Bush's "You forgot Poland."

So, what is it that she's supposed to do, again?

Admit that she's in way over her head and bow out for the good of the country before she's a heartbeat away from the Presidency.

Originally, she was to smile and wave like a good piece of eye candy should, but someone forgot to tell her not to say anything. Just went downhill from there.

Well, she should have to face that opinion if it's held by voters like you. I get the sense that a reporter or two is operating from the same standpoint. That seems slightly less fair.

heya folks. alright. let's do some serious farking here...

"Iceland's a country?" - ouch.

Tabatha Static: ...about Palin's getting her word-salad tossed by Katie Couric...

+1 for you

oh, and to paraphrase Mel Brooks' "Naughty Nazis" re: the head of their theater cast and his notoriety in the world:

"What?! You haven't HEARD of (Sarah Palin)?! She's world famous in (Alaska)!"

*snicker snicker*

andrewagill 2008-09-26 03:51:03 PM
I'll give her her pound of flesh, but I reserve the right to retain every drop of blood.

She met with a head of state, not a head of government.

The president of Iceland has as much to do with policy as the Queen has to do with the policy of Canada.

Um...Iceland's presidency is a mostly ceremonial post.

The real head of Iceland's government is their prime minister.

"Gibson, in his Palin interview broadcast Sept. 11, grilled the governor on her foreign-policy experience, asking if she'd ever met with a head of state who can negotiate for that country.

'I have not,' Palin said, 'and I think if you go back in history and if you ask that question of many vice presidents, they may have the same answer that I just gave you."

She in fact was right, submitter.

i heard a smart commentator evaulating the McPalin campaign yesterday. his take was basically, "their whole strategy is to continue to distract folks from the actual issues and focus on chaning the subject from ideas to tactics. so Palin's 'hire' may actually be mostly to shake stuff up and then get booted in 'another bold move'."

thought that might actually be spot on.

So where do you draw the line? Is the PM of England a world leader? The PM of the Netherlands? Denmark? Ireland? Luxembourg? San Marino? The Vatican?

She will offend a LOT of important people if she's that unaware.

Wow, I think you may be right.

Booting Palin then becomes a "Bold maverick move".

The new GOP VP pick would also benefit from a greatly lowered bar. It would also buy them more "stall time" since obviously the new pick would have to come up to speed.

It's pure genius!

This seems kind of like a BS story. She didn't consider Iceland in the interview because they were talking about larger, mainly adversarial countries. That's how it seems, anyways.

The ther possibility is that the McCain campaign is trying to lower the expectations for the Biden-Palin debate to the cellar. Then Palin "wins" if she doesn't come across as the stammering moron she has everywhere else.

Iceland's President may not be the most significant global leader, but it's a little unkind to call him an idiot.
