Funny. This guy is priceless.

So if Biden said "No earmarks in Congress!" would you assume that he: (a) Wants no more earmarks (b) Is saying there is not now, nor has ever been anything called an earmark (c) Is opposed to the marks left behind by earrings.

Your answer determines if you are a shill or not.

Their other promises? When did Joe Biden become a conglomeration or gain the canonical "we"?

snocone [TotalFark] 2008-09-26 10:21:02 AM
Don't worry about Biden.

My money is on Bush decaring "emergency" and naming himself king.

Then of course, McCain could get his thugs together, cut a deal and show up on a white charger to slay Bush and the Wall Street Gang.

Only way in hell he can win at this point.

The "no coal plants in America" is an incomplete statement taken out of context. If people would actually pay attention instead of relying on soundbites and GOP talking points, you'd know that already.

jerry2a 2008-09-26 10:58:13 AM
Later in the exchange, he said: "No coal plants here in America. Build them, if they're going to build them, over there (in China). Make them clean, because they're killing you."

It wasn't a great moment for him but it wasn't an outright lie either...you can be in favor of clean coal but still against building coal plants in America. I'll admit it was weak. And Joe shouldn't be talking about China - I know for a fact that you can't see China from Delaware.

I don't think opposition to clean coal would be consistent with Biden's previous energy stances, so I'm inclined to think he just misspoke last week.

You know the incredibly sad part? Palin's approval rating is higher in a poll I saw this morning. Barbie is ahead of the smart guy.

Hmm, except his response of "no coal plants" was to "Are there any clean coal plants?" But please, let's just leave the context out so that implied word gets forgotten.

I really farking hate Republicans at this point.

A Neocon's mindset:

Keeping an open enough mind to be able to revise your opinion based on emerging information = Waffling flip-flopper.

Forever sticking to a demonstrably false opinion that's been conclusively proven to be utter hogwash = Leadership with integrity.

That is, unless THEIR guy does either one. Then it's vice-versa, and there will be no discussion to the effect that this is contradictory.

Go to hell, Subby.

chipspastic 2008-09-26 04:09:48 PM
Let's return, once again, to McCain's flourishing flip-flop list, which is now a Top 11 list.

* McCain criticized TV preacher Jerry Falwell as "an agent of intolerance" in 2002, but has since decided to cozy up to the man who said Americans "deserved" the 9/11 attacks. (Indeed, McCain has now hired Falwell's debate coach.)

* McCain used to oppose Bush's tax cuts for the very wealthy, but he reversed course in February.

* In 2000, McCain accused Texas businessmen Sam and Charles Wyly of being corrupt, spending "dirty money" to help finance Bush's presidential campaign. McCain not only filed a complaint against the Wylys for allegedly violating campaign finance law, he also lashed out at them publicly. In April, McCain reached out to the Wylys for support.

* McCain supported a major campaign-finance reform measure that bore his name. In June, he abandoned his own legislation.

* McCain used to think that Grover Norquist was a crook and a corrupt shill for dictators. Then McCain got serious about running for president and began to reconcile with Norquist.

* McCain took a firm line in opposition to torture, and then caved to White House demands.

* McCain gave up on his signature policy issue, campaign-finance reform, and won't back the same provision he sponsored just a couple of years ago.

* McCain was against presidential candidates campaigning at Bob Jones University before he was for it.

* McCain was anti-ethanol. Now he's pro-ethanol.

* McCain was both for and against state promotion of the Confederate flag.

* And now he's both for and against overturning Roe v. Wade.

Apparently you didn't watch the little shrubs speech and look into his eyes. His eyes tell me a) he's depressed and b) he wants to go back to Crawford and ride his bicycle and clear brush. He has no interest in being in office any more because in a moment of intellectual sobriety he realized that he's going to be considered the worst president ever but thinks if he leaves now he might get forgotten (which won't happen).

I am on the fence in this election, but there is more than enough BS context raping going around on both sides of the fence.

Kind of hard to say its out of context when you watch it.....

No, but there is such a thing as "clean coal technology", wherein CO-2 can be contained and recycled. This technology has been used in France for almost a decade now.

ilambiquated 2008-09-26 04:33:55 PM
What is "clean coal"? Wikipedia says:

"Clean coal" is an umbrella term used in the promotion of the use of coal as an energy source by emphasizing methods being developed to reduce its environmental impact. These efforts include chemically washing minerals and impurities from the coal, gasification (see also IGCC), treating the flue gases with steam to remove sulfur dioxide, and carbon capture and storage technologies to capture the carbon dioxide from the flue gas. These methods and the technology used are described as clean coal technology. Major politicians and the coal industry use the term "clean coal" to describe technologies designed to enhance both the efficiency and the environmental acceptability of coal extraction, preparation and use,[1] with no specific quantitative limits on any emissions, particularly carbon dioxide.

But our article says it is about recapturing CO2

So is "clean coal" Clean Coal?

Yes, when asked about building NEW coal plants. He doesn't want us to build any MORE coal plants here in the US, and he'd like new plants being built in China to use clean coal technology.

Yes, Lil Bush does look depressed. Like he wants to drink himself into a coma and go to sleep for a couple months. Things didn't turn out quite the way his buddies wanted. Almost feel sorry for him.

Bidet's been in politics so long he will automatically just tell people what they want to hear. Kind of a knee jerk reflex. That's how politicians stay in the game.

Gonna take a shot in the dark here...

1) They invested in it.
2) They didn't pander to all the NIMBY-ers.

Saw a compelling post the other day about how if America would really buckle down, in 5-10 years we could be the leader in clean technology. But that would require personal sacrifice and hard work from EVERYONE, and sadly, we lost that with the last generation.

/Sick of walking into houses where families can barely afford to keep the lights on and have about 400 sq ft. of living space, food stamps, and medicaid, but damn sure have a $1200 TV.
