I think we need to face facts: Washington really is broken right now, and it has been for a lot longer than just 21 months ago. We need well planned, fundamental changes.

And the first one on my list is reform of the congressional committee system. Personally, I'd love to see them do away with the "chairman has to be from the majority party" rule.

Secondly, we need a bill passed, signed into law and acted on (ASAP) that ties the budget directly to the expected revenue, and states that any yearly deficit has to be made up the following year, in total. Now, for all you "deficit spenders," you don't have to worry about paying down our outstanding debt if you don't want to, but you will not add to it. And for all you "pay down the deficit" folks, if you can do it, have at it; but you should at least be happy that no one is able to add to it.

I have been on record many many times about how I can't stand how Bush (and the post 2000 Republicans) blew it with the wild assed spending AND I am completely against the bailout.

1) It's not 1.6 trillion dollars worth of earmarks. Earmarks were in a 1.6 trillion spending bill.
2) Typically, earmark spending is less than 1% of government expenditures, so all this biatching about earmark spending is pretty stupid.
