yay!

So, properly threatening Plant with new blood finally paid off, uh?

Who were the "new singers"?

WaltzingMathilda [TotalFark] 2008-09-25 10:25:25 PM
Can Plant sound good at 60+ with the Zep sound or will it be slightly refined? I mean, it's cool they're doing it, but I guess my question is can it be done? Did anyone hear the gig they did last year and think it was great?

I've seen a really well-done bootleg video of the reunion gig in the O2 arena. I thought it was really good.

The biggest weakness I've seen with Zeppelin - from 1975 or so - has been their setlist selection. Their catalog is so deep, and they consistently choose songs that don't do well in the big arenas they play. I'm a live music lover, and as such listen to all sorts of bootlegs. The Plant/Page gigs had better setlists than the Later Zep shows, and the reunion set list really disappointed me.

Personally, I can't wait to hear "Whole Lot O' Truss" with over half of the original members.

With the economy going the way it is, I probably won't be able to afford to go unless I sell my left kidney.

charrigo 2008-09-25 11:16:40 PM
Is it an American tour though? I mean, it doesn't specifically say where.

Crap, going to have to loot the kids' college fund after all.

Meatzilla [TotalFark] 2008-09-25 11:24:35 PM
Crap! What to do!? I only have one nut left after the divorce!

I saw Led Zep back in the 70's at their last show in So Cal before Bonzo died :(

Aw fark it... I'm going no matter what it takes.

THIS

I've had a "been there, done that" attitude toward going to concerts for many years. But there is no way in hell I will miss this tour. I LOVE Zeppelin, and I cannot WAIT to see their concert!!!!

I wish old rock stars had the dignity to just fkn stop.

/led zep has been my favorite since I was 10 years old...nearly 30 years ago...but, seriously, stop.

One of the best concerts I ever went to was Page/Plant during the Walking Into Clarksdale tour. It was the second show of the tour. I figured it was going to be mostly stuff from the new album, but it turned out to be predominantly Zeppelin songs.

I never thought I'd ever get to see Jimmy Page bow a guitar live, but goddamn, it was awesome. Because it was so early in the tour, Plant's voice was in pretty good shape. I mean, it wasn't what it was in the 70s, but it was definitely decent.

Raiden333 [TotalFark] 2008-09-26 01:04:28 AM
I will be there if they play anywhere in the US. And I'll want so many 'party supplies' that I hope it's not too far to drive to.

Occam's Chainsaw [TotalFark] 2008-09-26 04:07:14 AM
FFS, guys, please at least have sense enough to do NYC, Miami, and LA. If they do something like London, Rome, and Tokyo, and that's it, I'm going to hurt somebody.

Jedekai 2008-09-26 04:53:20 AM
I'd love to go;

But I can't afford the 500 dollars the tickets are going to cost; it'll be like a Tom Petty show - tickets sold out four minutes after availability electronically thanks to a turbo-douche who was donated several Benjamins to complete the transaction.

I dunno about the raw energy part of the equation, but Plant's voice is still amazing. For reference, listen to the recent album collaboration with Alison Kraus(yes, the country singer), "Raising Sand." That's one hell of an album.
As for Zeppelin, I went through my obligatory worship phase like most young males. I still own all of their albums, but I seldom if ever get a charge out of listening, anymore. It's not that they aren't one of the great and influential bands of all time - it's just that, farkin' A man, it all sounds the same after a lifetime of being brow-beaten with it.

I can't stand bands that used to rock getting together for the geriatric tour. God love 'em for still being able to make millions of dollars at an age when many men are researching brands of adult diapers. I still hate it, though. Take the Stones, who were at one time the most ball-blistering, desperate sounding rock and roll band EVAR. And now we have...ugh.

It's all happening.

I pooped a lil when I read that.

Just a lil bit, not enough to make it to the shorts, but enough to let you know it's there.

I'd have to take a bus to Toronto from Winnipeg, so I guess I'll be heading there in style. ;)

Lol fark, inadvertent bus massacre joke there.

I am willing to pay an obscene amount of money for a ticket to see this. My dad got me into listening to them when I was a kid, I thought I'd never get the chance to see them live.

Is this legit? I mean is the Sun really that reliable? I hate to get my hopes up. Plus I may hold off and not buy Eagles tickets Monday morning.

This sounds good in theory but, if I go, I'm sure I'll be stuck next to a drunk guy who insists on singing along to every song.

I'm gonna start a bank now, that way I'll be able to ask Congress for $700B when tickets go on sale and that might cover the cost of one.

I saw Zeppelin in 1975 on the Physical Graffiti tour and Plant had trouble hitting his signature high notes even then. The real problem with a Led Zeppelin reunion is Bonzo's ability to attend.

You do realise the phrase 'it was reported today' is a journo trick in order to get something online, and the clicks/advertising dollars that go with it, when you've got nothing yourself?

How do I know? Because I did the same thing as soon as I read the Sun's story. Bingo, in the top stories on a Google News search.

*Sits children down for serious talk*

Boys, one of daddy's favorite bands is going on tour. Daddy never got to see them in their prime cuz he grew up poor.
But now with the advances in medical science, daddy can sell your internal organs on the black market and finally be able to afford to see them and get a tour t-shirt 'n stuff. This would make daddy very happy, and you like it when daddy is happy, right?

I just saw him with Alison Kraus a few days ago. He has man-tits and moves in a real creepy way. Otherwise, he sounds good and they did a pretty kickass version of "The Battle of Evermore".

/horrible version of "Black Dog" though

Saw Plant when he opened for the Who a few years back. He sounded great then. Changed the key of many songs to fit his voice but that's to be expected.

/this show, I will be attending

Precisely. This is why I always like Led Zeppelin. After Bonham died, they had the good sense to call it quits for good.

Too bad that Plant has apparently given in.

And I won a $100 bet because a friend insisted that they'd find a new drummer and get back to recording and touring within a year like The Who had done. It was a sweet win.

/wish The Who had been classy enough to give it up

I can tell you from being front row at the O2 show Plant still has it, although they tune down now - everything sounded frikking sweet except stairway - never much cared for the tune anyway after the overplaying on the radio, but it sounded wrong.

I liked the music and the southern gothic vibe, but the lyrics were histrionic-high-school-kid-with-a-thesaurus laughable.
