I know I'll be saying No to Yes. Without Jon (or Rick Wakeman), what's the point? This dissing just makes it more extreme. They can't treat an elf like that.

As Woody Allen said, "Empty sex is better than no sex, right?"

I would miss Jon's voice terribly, but I'd still love to hear Yes music played in concert. From what I've heard of the guy they are planning to use as Jon's replacement (from a Yes tribute band), it would still be worth going.

You can judge for yourself. The singer, Benoit David, has got a video of "Close to the Edge" on youtube. The guys in the band contacted him after seeing his videos.

And of course, the best of all would be for a speedy recovery by Jon Anderson, so that they can all go out together.

Somewhere, Peter Banks is sneering.

OK, good article and all that. I just want to know what kind of name is "Janeee" (with three 'e's)?

I'm with John.

Just as Drama is a good album in its own right but doesn't feel like a Yes album proper, neither will this tour be a Yes tour without the band's true voice.

I just got a notice that they're playing in Toronto on November 5th. With or without Jon?

Without, it would seem. I just maaay have gone to see them with him, but not without. Last time I saw them was the 'Drama" tour. It wasn't Yes.

that Benoit David guy is awesome! He'd be a great replacement for Jon!!

[hmmm... that's the second great prog. rock cover band that comes from Montreal that I know of... the other being The Musical Box - genesis - ...... hmmmm....me thinks there's something awesome in the water there...]
[not to mention all the cool indie bands that've come outta there lately...]

I can feel no sense of measure.

Sounds like someone's over the rainbow. I can see you turning deep purple with rage against the machine, but all this blind faith is going to nine-inch-nail you.

Geez...he needs to relax and focus on recovering. Obviously he doesn't understand the business side of things. I've heard he has a huge ego, now I've seen it's true.

This is just to fulfill some of their commitments from the cancelled tour. Plus the fill-in vocalist sounds DAMN good. He can hit notes Jon can't anymore.

Ryker's Peninsula 2008-09-24 10:28:48 PM
I've been saying no to Yes ever since Big Generator came out.
Does that make me progressive?

Henry Holland 2008-09-25 02:28:31 AM
Ryker's Peninsula, no that just makes you smart. What a farce this once great band has become. I lost interest in them after the awesome Relayer album, but I went to the tours where they broke out Revealing Science of God and The Gates of Delirium, they could still bring it live. The albums, not so much.

/Don't ever reform ELP, just don't

Maybe it's just me but even watching the clip, that's some guy doing an imitation of Jon Anderson. Jon's an artist (sometimes misguided, IMHO), but Benoit David is merely a copy. It would leave me with a cold and empty feeling to see this; at least Trevor Horn brought some of his own sound into the band, even if he couldn't hit the Jon highs. Gotta agree with Jon on this one.

Honoring the commitments from the tour, Entity79 - source? I'd be more willing to bet some of the band members (Squire?) might be hard up and are getting a bit short of cash.

Entity79: I've heard he has a huge ego, now I've seen it's true.

Must have been rough on him to pull his hand out of the ocean and discover it didn't leave a hole.

He needs to try to look at the positive side of not doing the tour- it gives him more opportunities to have the local bands around here grovel at his feet as he blesses them in his smarmy condescending fashion.

NO! Yesss!

"No" is the only proper answer to Yes.

I would like to see the demented dribbling freakshow who would be willing to step up to the plate with any kind of defense of "Owner of a Lonely Heart".

/Close to the Edge or Tales from Topographic Oceans are OK if you've taken enough drugs.
//'Enough' is really kind of a lot in this instance

The mash-up with Tom Jones' "Sex Bomb" was awesome.

Anderson is too much a part of the band. They should have canceled... or at least been good friends to the guy. This kind of thing ruins bands.

Hey...I miss Bill Bruford with them...but that would be going back to Close to the Edge. I also liked up until Relayer. After that, some was good, but just not the same level I guess. Playing bass myself...Chris Squire is one of those bass gods. Never saw these guys in concert. Wish I was around during the Bruford years with them

So it's just "Butthole, and how!" then?

There is nothing more tedious than a Yes album.

Well, there's always the meta-tediousness of people complaining about the tedious of Yes.

Yes always has replacements. The only one who has been in the band for the whole time is Chris Squire. You guys who are whining about the lack or Rick Wakeman know he's not the original keyboard player right? And that he didn't really write much of their material? I've seen them with a bunch of different keyboard players and honestly, they all sound fine. If they were dressed like wizards you probably wouldn't even know the difference. I don't know how this Jon Anderson-soundalike will be, but I bet he'll be sufficiently girly-sounding. Then once Jon Anderson gets better, they'll go back to putting out crummy albums with sweet cover art and touring all the time.

That is really all you needed to say. The suck this band delivers is only second to Genesis with Peter Gabriel.
