Well, it never would come to him.

Does Petty do as much touring as DMB? Because it's not that impressive when DMB rakes in that much cash year after year. If a Tom Petty tour is a rare thing these days, then it's a rarity thing. As where DMB pulls in that kind of loot every year.

Petty keeps ticket prices relatively low, but he plays a lot of dates and doesn't put on the exact same show night after night.

Saw him in June. He was totally money. And so was Steve Winwood.

Same here, same time

Same show. That was a good one, but hotter than hell. We were sitting right in front of the main walkway at Nissan and the sun didn't get off of us until Petty was on stage. Great show though.

/bringing Winwood back out was a nice touch

I about hurt myself laughing when he played here in Oklahoma City. It was Will Rogers Day, and he dedicated "Learning to Fly" in Will's memory.

/Why does OKC have both it's airports named after people who died in a plane crash?
//What kind of idiot gets into a plane with a one-eyed pilot?

i saw him this july in omaha. great sold-out show w/steve winwood. but tix were (relatively) expensive at $100/seat - same price as the police a month earlier.

emocomputerjock: at Nissan

I hate the nissan pav. I refuse to see any shows there.

I tried to get tickets to his Atlanta show for my girlfriend and I and it was sold out. NO ONE had any tickets. Even day of show, where I'm usually lucky just getting 'em at the door, there were none. I was shocked.

I'm disappointed I missed it.

his music is used on absolutely everything now.

I wonder what the "Traveling Wilburys" would have been like had Roy & George lived. The last "real" supergroup. IMO

Saw him at Pemberton Music festival and he farking stole the show. He closed the second night of three, and I think he topped Nine Inch Nails, Jay Z, and Coldplay.

He had the best light show, and he played the crowd like marionettes. Pro. Simply Pro. Dude earned so much respect from me because honestly I didn't expect an old fart like him to put on such a performance. But he was incredible.

I saw him there too, and I agree that he just edged out Jay-Z for best set of the festival. Maybe if Jay had a longer set (he should have headlined instead of Coldplay), but as it stands, Petty ruled the weekend. I just pray the rumours of Nickelback headlining next year are false, could you imagine the douchefest that would ensue?

I just came in to say the new Mudcrutch CD is awesome.

I was at Pemberton as well. I watched from the side of the stage. Benmont Tench is family, so I've seen every Petty tour since 2002 (I'm only 20 years old).

I'm a huge NIN fan, so I rank Pemberton:
1)NIN
2)Petty
3)Jay-Z
4)My Morning Jacket

bland music for bland people

tom petty lost his edge before the seventies were over

Damn good band, even better after asshat drummer Stan Lynch retired.
Yes, Mudcrutch is awesome, too

One of the best concerts I've ever been too, saw him on the first date in Grand Rapids Mich.

Southern Atheist

From New Orleans, but spent a great deal of time, and live in Florida. Gainesville, Ocala, and now Jacksonville.

Jayz sucks. Petty puts on a great show, being a Gaineville boy and all.

I moved to florida when you were born.

You quote Phil Anselmo of Pantera in your profile. Quote is correct, but I went to high school with Phil, and he was, is, and always be a douchebag.

Awesome to see he's still pulling in the numbers. Maybe he'll make it back here next year.

I've wanted to see him for years and missed the chance he was in my town a few years back. From what I've heard, the tours are scaling back in length from here on out.

ExanimateAzrael 2008-09-24 01:56:39 AM
You know, earlier today I was wondering if Tom Petty still toured and that I wanted to see him live.

Mad Mark 2008-09-24 09:15:12 AM
I've seen him several times over the years & he always puts on a good show.
