Most of the opening songs for Bond movies suck. It's not as bad as Madonna's Die Another Day, that's for sure.

/Garbage, TWINE, ftw

The Stealth Hippopotamus [TotalFark] 2008-09-22 09:56:14 AM
I would like to reiterate this point. ^^^^

I dont understand why but for some reason even good artist can make a good bond song.

Sybarite [TotalFark] 2008-09-22 10:07:17 AM
They'll never match the Shirley Bassey themes.

emocomputerjock 2008-09-22 10:14:13 AM
I don't understand why it's an issue. Who watches Bond movies for the obligatory celebrity intro song anyway?

UNC_Samurai [TotalFark] 2008-09-22 10:21:59 AM
Can they not just use an instrumental theme?

Etchy333 [TotalFark] 2008-09-22 10:22:44 AM
emocomputerjock: I don't understand why it's an issue. Who watches Bond movies for the obligatory celebrity intro song anyway?

This one's going to be a musical. They're gonna sing the whole way through.

LIES!!
Alicia Keys can do no wrong by me.. no wrong!

Etchy333 [TotalFark] 2008-09-22 10:33:30 AM
Here's the theme on Youtube (new window)

There are tons of fakes on there, but this one seems legit. However, it sounds like a very unofficial recording. (like recording it off a TV, in a tunnel, while watching a football game in the next room)

Only if Tim Burton is directing.

Best Bond Themes....evar

You Know My Name (pops...then self destructs)

A View To A Kill (god this video sucks, sorry)

FortKnox 2008-09-22 11:10:40 AM
I didn't think it was that bad... it blends some old-school bond tones with a new edge. I guess I'm alone in liking it...

/still not better than Shirley Bassey...

I noticed that the theme to "Goldfinger" is missing in your list, and I ask that it be immediately remedied!

moel 2008-09-22 11:18:12 AM
It is absolutely freaking awful

I loved you know my name, it was raw edgy and powerful...

This is just sucky

emilyek_1 2008-09-22 11:19:27 AM
Here you go, whole song:

Link (new window)

Eh, it's not great, but it's not that bad.

The chorus is kinda cool, while the actual lyrics are crappy.

Don't think there was a need for a duet; Keyes should have sung alone on White's track and it probably would have been much better.

Diogenes [TotalFark] 2008-09-22 11:20:42 AM
So what's wrong with the Carly Simon one?

Phil Herup 2008-09-22 11:21:44 AM
FortKnox: "Goldfinger" is missing

No doubt, I thought about it.

Great film Goldfinger is. The song is classic as well, it is not a song that really stands on its own.

If you saw it on a jukebox...would you select it?

You Know My Name is one of those songs, so is View to a Kill.

Phil Herup 2008-09-22 11:23:01 AM
Diogenes: So what's wrong with the Carly Simon one?

Hmmm, you know what? You are right.

The Spy Who Loved Me is a great one as well.

It is on my list now.

Definitely one of the very best Bond theme songs. Full of win.

TypoFlyspray 2008-09-22 11:29:30 AM
It's possible to do a good Bond Style song, but evidently only if you are A. Shirley Bassie or B. Pretending to be Shirley Bassie.

(Please excuse the lame ass Wonka video. We're only interested in the song, here)

Mugato [TotalFark] 2008-09-22 11:29:36 AM
Uh, way too over-produced. Step away from the FX board.

You're so vain.

Caeldan 2008-09-22 11:36:28 AM
The intrumentals are okay I think - typical Bond sound...
But Jack White needs to stop singing, and stop making people who do duets with him sing like him. The staccato 'singing' he does is terrible.

The Stealth Hippopotamus [TotalFark] 2008-09-22 11:40:03 AM
Ok "you know my name" did rock. For a Bond song

memphisbo 2008-09-22 11:42:11 AM
"You Know My Name" absolutely sucked absolutely. This song is not as bad as people are making it out to be. Not even close. It's actually a pretty good track.

View to A Kill was great
Thunderball - Tom Freaking Jones!!
Spy Who Loved Me - Carly Simon

"You Know my Name" is up there with "Die Another Day" as most worthless Bond tracks of all time

Riotboy 2008-09-22 11:43:28 AM
It's an okay song, Jack and Alicia sound good together.

/I dig the way the drums sounds

DFWPhotoGuy 2008-09-22 11:44:30 AM
Maybe its just me and my co-workers, but we like the song.

There is serious fail at work for nobody mentioning the OHMSS theme.

I always thought that "Nobody Does it Better" should cut into some of "We Are the Champions" play after wins at sporting events...

Got to agree with the naysayers on 'You Know My Name'.

Sounds like any other insipid late 90's to the present pseudo-ponderous qausi-emo 'rock' song.

You know if they wanted something modern and hip-- and a Brit-- they could have gone with Winehouse.

Srsly.

She could croon something really cool and sexy for Bond I bet, as long as she didn't go overboard with funky neo-rap influence crap and kept it on the retro-soul/big band horns side of things.

Third_Uncle_Eno 2008-09-22 12:02:53 PM
I wish Moby [well... circa 1999-2002 Moby] would record/do a James Bond Theme.

/is the new song named "you know my name"??
how lame is that title?
Keys /White may as well have recorded the Beatles b-side "You know my name, look up the number" .... but that would've been a catastrophe.

They actually tried to go with Winehouse but she kept on flaking out, no doubt due to her prolific crack usage.

The one for Casino Royale was 'You Know My Name' by Chris Cornell
This one for Quantum of Solace is 'Another Way To Die'

The Sheryl Crow Bond song was pretty good.

"We have all the time in the world" by Louis Armstrong. Best thing about that horrible film.

i think it's pretty good.

Gotta say, I hated the Brosnan Bond films (a sad waste of the perfect Bond actor), but I loved the Sheryl Crow song for "Tomorrow Never Dies" and the Garbage song for "The World is Not Enough".
