I think most Bocephus concerts start with a big ol' tire fire, so I think you're being a little redundant, subby.

The Villages, a vast, upscale planned community north of Orlando, has about 70,000 mostly adult residents -- many of them military retirees -- . . . Admiring throngs mobbed the Palin family's arrival and departure, snapping souvenir pictures. Autograph seekers thrust campaign signs, caps with the McCain-Palin logo and copies of magazines with her face on their covers, and the Palins responded warmly.

All I can picture is 30,000 Grandpa Simpsons, 15,000 Bea Arthurs and 15,000 Estelle Gettys.

60,000? She's too popular to be VP. Sounds quite cultish to me. Also:

FTFA: "He won't say this, so I'll say it for him," the Alaska governor said in an almost confidential tone at the close of her first Florida stump speech. "There is only one man in this election who has ever really fought for you. John McCain wore the uniform of his country for 22 years -- talk about tough."

Wait, wait, wait....McCain was in the military? I can't believe he hasn't mentioned this before. How modest of him! I respect him for not exploiting his service to our nation.

My uncle lives in Jupiter FL. He says that a particular problem is that the old people over-run the red lights by 5-10 feet. So they put the car in reverse, back up a bit, then wait for the light to turn green. Problem is, they never take it out of reverse, the light turns green, and they ram into the car behind them. Anecdotal, yes, but since I heard that story, that is how I picture old FL drivers.

Old shoes have soles?

Most old shoes at least have some tread left?

She said "John McCain warned Congress that we needed to do something before these problems became a crisis

Interesting then that McCain never made a mention of this impending crisis in his campaign before it happened.

Almost as interesting as John McCain claiming on the morning everything stared collapsing, that the fundamentals of our economy are strong. This is a rather strange claim to be making for someone who knew for some time that the economy was about to collapse.

typo or subtle joke?

but yeah, pics please. i put pics up of obama drawing ~20,000 in jacksonville couple of hours after it happened. and... 60,000? that would be a larger crowd than they have drawn... ever. many times over. so i'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that isn't really how many people were there.

unless she's so popular in central florida that she draws roughly the same crowd that obama drew for his convention speech. and i don't think that's likely.

FTFA: The Villages, a vast, upscale planned community north of Orlando, has about 70,000 mostly adult residents -- many of them military retirees -- who vote reliably Republican in statewide races. Tens of thousands inched along roads into the picturesque town square of the complex, where they stood in sweltering heat for about four hours as local GOP officials and a country band revved up the crowd.

This/These(?) Villages? (popalicious, not a RR) Yup, right up her and McCain's alley.

burndtdan 2008-09-21 10:33:53 PM
Sarah Palin held her first campaign event in the battleground state of Florida with a rally in the retirement community of the Villages attracting one of the largest-if not the biggest crowd either member of the ticket has ever seen.

from fox news.

"one of the largest, if not the biggest crowd". 60,000 would not be a question. does anyone know what the actual numbers on the largest crowd they've gotten yet?

"John McCain wore the uniform of his country for 22 years -- talk about tough."

Ummm...how does being a career military guy make you "tough"?

I'm not saying it makes you a pussy, and sure, being held as a PoW could certainly toughen you up (I heard a rumor that McCain was a PoW *somewhere* or another...), but "wearing the uniform of your country for 22 years" doesn't make you tough. I'm sure there are supply sergeants and Army cooks who've been in the service for longer than that; doesn't mean they're "tough".

burndtdan 2008-09-21 10:47:01 PM
it's kind of amusing. i'm googling around trying to see if i can get a more official crowd estimate. i'm seeing numbers ranging from 10,000 to 100,000, but on fox news, cnn, msnbc etc... nothing.

Did she also promise that McCain would reveal his secret plan to capture Bin Laden, but only if we elect him? Oh wait, he said that himself.

Interesting to see the hate. Palin stole Obama's minority card...and now she's stealing his popularity card.

Ask yourself this...do you want a rock star as President...or Vice President. That is the question. And inevitably we will find out if they are more Rolling Stone with the longevity...or more Jimi Hendrix and fast...but quickly burned out.

The articles I've read say that there was no way to keep count of the number of attendee's, but that easily 100 suffered from heat related troubles... old people... in the sun... for many many hours... were they TRYING to kill off their own voters?

I was at the Obama rally in Jax and I can vouch with burndtdan that the park was packed - 10,000 easily... plus those who were turned away. I read somewhere earlier that McCain was in the area earlier and only drew a crowd of 6,000... has anyone else seen that number?

I'm starting to feel bad for McCain - he clearly wouldn't stand a chance if it weren't for his inexperienced running mate's tits.

And did anyone else think her speech sounded exactly like Obama's?? Some lines were exact quotes "Reform Wall St. so it's decisions won't effect Main St." speak - same freaking thing!!! This race is going to turn into a "who said it first" game!!

That's what I'm saying. Yesterday was INSANE. I've never seen anything like the damned lines of people. There's NO WAY Failin brought in that many people. Old people ain't gonna wait out in the Florida heat that long. Or we woulda heard about the mass death at the rally.
She's coming to Jacksonville on the 4th. My gf said we're going and she's bring a sign that says "Your tits don't speak for me."

tough? most of that was in Washington as a liason to the govt. McCain has been on the taxpayer's dole his entire life. He's never held a private sector job. he went to private schools.

He understands exactly what we're going through because he hasn't lived it.

So 60,000...when translated from McCain talk to reality, that equals about 6,000 people, right?

/when McCain was a POW, he didn't have a calculator.

Great, she drew a bunch of old people that were already there. I don't think when Obama had his rally, there were 10,000+ people living at the park.
