Show up to a G7 convention, the cops and the rioters both know ahead of time that its going to be anarchy on the streets. Sucks if you get caught in the crossfire.

Show up to a rally at another time, and things are generally more peaceful. I've been to rallies that number in the thousands on the steps of the Ontario legislature and we got looks of tolerant indifference from the cops stuck manning the barricades.

It's not a bad thing to disperse riots. Riots are, by nature, violent - it's when you get to dispersing peaceful meetings that you're turning into a bunch of Nazis.

Let's say there's a mob of big beefy guys trashing all the stores along main street, are you just going to let them beat up on everyone? Probably not. In that case, are you going to use tear gas, rubber bullets, real bullets (sharpshooter with .21 hits mob leader in left lung), or a stink bomb? Of those options, the one that's least likely to hurt anyone is the stink bomb, and it ensures that law enforcement won't want to arrest anyone!

Looks like one of those pointy bullets next to a head of wheat. I like it. Makes more sense than a carrion bird.
