'It showed its teeth.' He said, 'We have a right to do this.'"

You are doing it wrong.

itazurakko [TotalFark] 2008-09-21 12:17:54 PM
Cool. So all I have to do to really hurt my neighbor is call in his dog as vicious? Then the police will just come shoot it?

Something crazy there, methinks.

z_gringo [TotalFark] 2008-09-21 12:18:47 PM
Oh please, the second you say "don't shoot the dog" to a policeman, he is going to pull out his gun and blow it away. It is just automatic.

You have to say something like "That dog hates black people! It is constantly biting black people for no reason!!!" and then the policeman won't shoot the dog.

Marcus Aurelius [TotalFark] 2008-09-21 12:27:51 PM
Most cops love shooting animals for some reason. Probably because they can kill with impunity and without any consequences.

That thing is as threatening as a puddle of kittens.

"But at the scene, the department official sent to discuss the incident told Ms. Mangum that the dog was too far away to spray with mace, requiring two shotgun shells instead. "

If it was that far away, how exactly was it a threat?

"Hey lookit that there, Bob."
-"What?"
"Dog."
-"Yup."
"Does it have any teeth?"
-"Most dogs do."
"Shoot it!"
-"Well..."
"Well, what?"
-"I can't see the teeth, Steve."
"Alright, Bob- watch this."
-"What?"
"CME'RE PUPPY! WHO'S A GOOD BOY! WHO'S A GOOD BOY!"
-"Well, I'll be damned. TEETH!"
"TEETH!"
-"F*CKING CHRIST, IT HAS TEETH- FIRE!"
[blam!]
"Good job, Bob."
-"Well done, Steve."

It was a real dog, not a Bichon Friese.

What is this new declaration of war against dogs? Did they figure out that's the way to get to us? Or are people just more nuts about their pets these days and feel they have a right to go to the press when it happens?

I'll bet the community ombudsman for that cop shop spent the entire day at the bar doing tequila shooters and hoping someone just kills him.

I mean really - wtf is up with cop shops these days? were they always this bad and we not notice it until the internet showed up? Or is this upswing in brutality and mindless violene paranoia something that cropped up after 9/11?

So many inaccuracies in the officer's story. First off, your quote in conjunction with this:

They were called by a neighbor who said the dog was acting aggressive, the dog "showed its teeth" to officers, and even "lunged" at one of them, he said.

He was too far away to mace but lunged at the officers?

Also, there doesn't seem to be an "S. Parks" in that department (new window), unless he is a brand new hire

Cheaper and easier than tossing some rat poison laced meat into the yard.

Why do all the nice and cool policemen live in someone else's town?

Survive1999 2008-09-21 12:51:48 PM
Pepper spraying a dog is more than enough force to prevent any agression toward a cop. This dog hate from the cops has go.

The former.

To protect and serve has been replaced with to intimidate and confiscate.

CelesX 2008-09-21 12:54:26 PM
Yea.. but if a police dog comes after you and you shoot it, you get charged with murdering an officer.

simian04 2008-09-21 12:54:52 PM
Oh how I hope that that douchebag cop gets shot in the face while on patrol. Twice. Then shoved in a plastic bag and left on a curb.

Faggity pig cops. Is there anything they can't do?

FrancoFile 2008-09-21 12:56:04 PM
Grr. What is it with these newspaper sites that won't tell you where the fark they are? "Serving Wayne County since 18xx" - there are probably 20 Wayne Counties in the US.

Seems like police chiefs around the country told us that tasers could be used in place of firearms. This seems the place.

You shot a Labrador Retriever, Mr. Officer. It's the all-American dog. You weren't hugged as a child, were you?

/I'd bare my teeth to if I had a gun aimed at me.

Goldsboro, North Carolina.

I was attacked by a dog on my paper route. All the cops did was quarantine the dog to make sure it didn't have rabies. That would have been farking awesome if they came out and shot him instead.

animesucks 2008-09-21 12:59:13 PM
meh. some people are sociopaths. what are you gonna do?

sojourner 2008-09-21 12:59:42 PM
Erm, what possible justification in law could this have?

What if I determined that the cop was in the process of committing a felony, and I pointed a gun at him? What happens then?

Weaver95: Or is this upswing in brutality and mindless violene paranoia something that cropped up after 9/11?

As a guess, I'd go with "9/11 syndrome". The event, ensuing legislation, and tough-guy bullshiat from the White House for eight years has given "security" types and a certain subset of law enforcement a ready excuse for excess. If the CIA created al Queida in Afghanistan, then Dick and Dubya and Rummy created Blackwater in Iraq. It's the times. Do we really have to have the '60s all over again, or will all these tough guys wise up on their own?

I'm going to use this incident as my defense if ever a police officer "shows his teeth" and/or "lunges" at me and I'm forced to take him out.

That man should be fired and charged.

Torque420 2008-09-21 01:02:15 PM
Why is nothing being done about this? This is truley upsetting. Its one of those stories that really pisses you off and you know the officer will get away with it and if anything get a slap on the wrist. A group of people should hunt the officer down and when he starts acting agressive he should be shot twice with a shotgun. It only seems fair. Was the dog attacking the officer? No. They should have called animal control. These police officers acted irresponsibly and need to be fired. They can not be trusted to protect and serve when they have no common sense.

Soon after this gets on WRAL, they will have the cop's head on a pike.

doctorwormwood 2008-09-21 01:04:04 PM
Your dogs are not children..
Your dog should not be running around the neighborhood without a leash..
They let the dog run loose.. it growled and snapped at people.. bang...
too bad.. keep the next dog on a leash or in the house, how many people have been bitten by dogs while their owner says "Oh he won't hurt you he's just playing.. "or " he's just scared, its ok..." fark that Your delusional mindstate regarding Your dogs is weak and you should stfu and follow the rules that keep people who are sane enough to see dogs as the animals that they are and not some surrogate for your childless state from having to be bitten and attacked.

piaddic120 2008-09-21 01:05:05 PM

f*cking pigs

animesucks 2008-09-21 01:05:13 PM
everybody calm down
it was probably just the end of his shift and he was tired and ready to go home. he could have calmed the dog down and contacted the owner, but that would have taken much longer than just shooting it and dumping it on the curb.

F**u and the horse you rode in on. People who keep savage animals and treat them as "children" are the ones that have no common sense. I feel compassion for the lady but not because she lost the dog but because she's seriously mentally deluded. There is nothing rational about people keeping vicious animals around attacking innocent people. If you think there is, you can go to hell.

The Power of Positive Drinking 2008-09-21 01:06:20 PM
I'm sorry, but that cop needs to be fired. If the dog was thaaat aggressive, maybe he should have called animal control. Dogs protect their territory. That's one of the reasons people get dogs. Newsflasher Trigger, you were an odd shaped stranger on its territory. Of course the doggie isn't going to like you and *gasp* show its teeth. The only thing you shoot an unknown animal with is a tranquilizer gun.

Rcain, my partner's fam has a bichon and he's the most vicious dog I've ever met. Jumped off the bed and bit me on the shoulder once.

vbidez 2008-09-21 01:06:20 PM
Someone should shoot all the vicious pigs running around town.

TrekRat [TotalFark] 2008-09-21 01:06:26 PM
No comments about how stupid the owner is for having the dog outside unsupervised? Wow. The owner obviously wasn't too wild about the dog to ditch it outside all the time. Yeah, the cop is an ass. So is the owner for not keeping the dog somewhere where it couldn't bother other people and would be safe from idiots.

TheWizard 2008-09-21 01:07:21 PM
I like how the dog 'lunged' at the police officers but was too far away for them to use pepper spray.

tele-lunge?
